FROM THE RECTOR’S DESK

All of the work I talked about last month has now been completed. The stair lift is fully operational, the upstairs teaching area, healing prayer rooms, waiting area and bathroom are all beautifully renovated and rep-resent a peace-filled and pleasant area for offering prayer.

Copies of the tri-fold brochure describing our healing ministry are available in the Parish Hall and have

been distributed to other churches in the area. Teaching sessions for anyone interested in learning more, in be-coming a prayer minister, or simply experiencing God’s presence in a new way are scheduled on Saturday mornings at 10:00am starting Saturday Nov. 4th. If you are the least bit curious about this exciting ministry come and see!

Healing prayer sessions are available, by appointment, on Mondays from 10:00a to 12:00p with alterna-

tive times for those who are working. Healing prayer is available for anyone, All Souls members and all others, without charge. Of course supportive donations are welcome, but not required. Each appointment (and repeat visits may be needed) will be for about one hour, usually with a prayer team of two ministers. out pay. But does that apply to me, I’m not a powerful disciple?

John 14:12-14 (ESV) 12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. 13 Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Fa-ther may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it. us to present Iglesia Pentecostal with a check for $900. I am indeed blessed to work with such caring people.

SOULFUL MUSIC FOR ALL

I think worship is dynamic, and so changes in style can be beneficial. Fr. Jackson and I have incorporated several peri-ods of silence from meditation or reflection. We don’t have to be busily doing something all the time. As a final prepa-ration to begin worship, there will be a moment of silence after the prelude, concluded by the ringing of the church bell. After the reading of the Gospel the procession will be done quietly. There will be a moment of reflection after the Ser-mon. The Presentation of bread, wine and financial gifts will be done in silence, as we focus our attention on the coming Eucharist. At the end of Communion there will be a final moment of meditation or reflection, before we proceed to the dismissal. Two special musical events are coming. Thanksgiving Eve Eucharist will be held at Messiah Lutheran. A Choral Even-song with Messiah will be held here on Wednesday, 6 De-cember as we begin Advent.

John F. Geib, Music Director

Thanks for the little things Thank the Lord for little things

For they can surely grow In to the greatest treasures That you may ever know

Don’t covet worldly riches That may not be for you

Nor overlook the special gifts That God has given you

Let giving outweigh getting On your scale of happiness

And your joyful heart will bask In the glow of Godliness

THRIFT STORE

Reality Check! The store did not make its income goal for September. Yes, we were closed for 7 days because of Irma. The loss of income was substantial. Irma is history. But, we have an-other storm brewing – apathy. It’s a very com-mon one. Right now I have carts and tables loaded with donations but very few people to do the work needed to get these donations from the back to the front. I’ve had to resort to closing the back at 3:00 and using my “little green man” to limit incoming donations. We can’t always de-pend on “outsiders” or “snow birds” to carry the load of YOUR thrift store. The weather is changing. It will never be exactly pleasant in the back of the store but it certainly is more tolerable. For those who the heat and humidi-ty were a concern, you no longer have that excuse. We need help. We are tired. Sincerely, Dottie Brown, Mgr.

WEDNESDAY OUTREACH

FUNDRAISER FOR FOOD

Everything was going fine until September 10th

when Irma came blowing our way. We lost all our Outreach Food that we had in the Freezers so we are having a Dinner and Movie night on Saturday October 28

th. The Movie is THE

SHACK and dinner is Lasagna. We have to make the money up to replace the food so we would like you all to come to our Fundraiser. The cost is $15.00 for the dinner and the movie. Every year we have our inspection from Harry Chapin and they were very impressed and got full marks so we were really happy about that. We received Emergency Family Packs of food from FEMA and they really helped as there real-ly was no food to be got at Harry Chapin for 2 weeks but now everything, thankfully, is back up and running. We have managed to get a lot of candy so my grandkids have made bags of candy over the weekend to give out at Outreach next Tuesday for Halloween. We are now collecting names at Outreach for Gift Cards for a meal for Thanksgiving, they do not get a turkey now just a $10 gift card I am hoping we will get enough from Harry Chapin as we have a lot of Clients at the moment. Just a note to keep faith in your heart, 8 weeks ago we had a guy come into Outreach who had nothing. He asked if we could look for a job for him, he did not have a computer or anything. He was a air conditioning mechanic. John got him an interview at Ace, he got the job, rented a small home and is doing very well and comes in to see John on a regular basis. God is GOOD.

God Bless you all,

Valerie Eaglesfield Co-Outreach Manager Tickets can be purchased from Hank & Sandy Heise, Ron & Patrice Swift, Jim Johnson or Jackie McCann

SAVE THE DATE!

Our 29th annual GINGERBREAD FAIR will be held on Saturday, De-cember 2 from 9 am to 3 pm. It’s a wonderful opportunity to buy hand-crafted Christmas gifts and decora-tions, delicious home-baked goods, as well as participate in our popular Gift Basket raffle. Some ways you can help NOW: Sandy Heise would LOVE donations of NEW items to put in the gift bas-kets - themes could include wine and crackers, movie night, Italian cuisine, etc. We would also LOVE donations of new or gently-used Christmas items, so clear out your closets and help our church! Any questions? Contact Yvette at 283-0597. Thanks and see you at the fair!

News From Your Parish Nurse

It is time to think about Flu Season which is just around the corner. Please think about getting your flu shot now before the flu season gets into full swing. It is very im-portant for we seniors, those with chronic diseases, those who are immune-compromised, and small children be vaccinated against influenza as we are the more susceptible populations. These populations tend to get sicker and have more complications from the flu, some requiring hospitalization. These complications are more devastating and deadly to the members of these special groups. The flu vaccine is available at your physician’s office and any pharmacy retailer – Walgreens, CVS, Target, Wal-Mart, Publix, Winn-Dixie, etc. You will need to make an appointment for the flu shot at your physician’s office, however at most of the pharmacies, you can walk in and request the shot during the normal hours of opera-tion for the pharmacy portion of the store. Remember that it takes 10 days to two weeks for the vaccine to become fully effec-tive. You may not get the flu from the shot. If you should become ill during the two week period after being vaccinated, you have acquired the illness from some other source. You may experience some soreness, redness or swelling at the injection site for a day or two. Take your favorite analgesic to relieve this discomfort. We are more susceptible to the flu virus here in Southwest Florida in some part due to our many visitors from other parts of the country and the world who are coming to enjoy our wonderful winter season. Be sure to wash your hands frequently and stay away from anyone who is showing signs of a cold or the flu. Should you get the flu, take an analgesic to relieve the aches and discomfort. Be sure to stay well hydrated. Drink plenty of fluids. Rest. Stay away from others. Call your physician if your symptoms persist more than a week. Remember that this is a virus and it does not respond to antibiotics. Stay well and let’s have a healthy and happy holiday season. May God Bless you and keep you safe each day. Pat Epifanio, RN, MS, FCN
