WATTS WEEK AT BSUMC The 5th season for the Winchester Area Temporary Thermal Shelter (WATTS) has been extended to 18 weeks this winter season! For the first time, the shelter will open its doors the Monday before Thanksgiving and continue through the end of March. WATTS Week will be hosted here at Braddock Street UMC from January 27-February 3, 2014. Once again, we will be able to provide refuge from the winter cold for up to 35 homeless guests. Starting in mid-December, look for more details in the bulletin announcements and on the church website about how you can get in-volved in supporting our WATTS week, or contact Natalie Ridgell [email protected].

Angel Tree donates Christmas gifts to children whose parents are in prison. Angel Tree’s phrase is “It all begins with a gift.” A great deal of work has already been done in preparation for our congregation to make Christmas real for about 200 chil-dren.

So how can you get involved? You can select an Angel from the tree and purchase gifts for a child. You can support Angel Tree financially. This is one way that people who do not like to shop can participate. We also need volunteers to shop and wrap gifts. We will need friendly faces to help deliver gifts here in Winchester. We will make the trip to Norfolk on December 14. Make the journey with us and you will never look at Angel Tree the same way again. It begins with a gift, but God’s love is endless…shouldn’t you be a part of sharing it?

To find out more, email [email protected] or call 540-504-7443.

Since joining the church roughly 24 years ago and growing up in the Church, I have found that this year I feel more connected to the Church than ever! Chairing the Evangelism Committee this year has allowed me to get out of my “box” that I had become so accustomed to for so many years! I found that I was doing the same thing week after week and I wasn’t reaching out to new people in and outside of the Church. I have found that not only do I enjoy and appreciate opening my eyes to new things, but doing so has brought me closer to God! Let us all reach out to others and make our Church the best it can be! Invite that one new person, get involved, do something new, for the word of Christ does marvelous things!

A word about our BEAR

MINISTRY that BEARS

repeating!

I want to encourage anyone who knows of someone in distress to take that person a bear. Simply remove one from its pew and sign it out in the folder in the bear

basket located in the Greetorium. This insures that you are not taking a bear to someone who has already received one. Bears can be given to anyone. They are not just for members of our church or for children. If you know someone who is ill, has experienced the death of a loved one, is facing surgery, has lost a job, is suffering from depression or any other problem that may be causing a hardship, please consider taking him/her a bear. If you would like to donate a bear, please place it in the basket in the Greetorium. I will place a tag on it and put it in a pew where it can be hugged and loved by our church family. Remember, our purpose is to Bring Encouragement And Reassurance. Please contact Dee Bauserman if you have any questions.

Music Notes by Judy Connelly

Our New Pipe Organ is Now Complete!!

A crew of skilled craftsmen from Létourneau Organ Co. occupied our sanctuary the past four weeks. They worked diligently building casework, mounting pipes, tuning, voicing, and consulting many professionals to complete the magnificent instrument you see in the pic-ture. Company President, Fernand Létour-neau, came to inspect the final product after Artistic Director, Andrew Forrest, had gone over every aspect of the instrument. The workmanship and work ethic of this company of skilled craftsmen was so inspiring - it was a joy and a pleasure to watch them work. The pride shown in a job well done will be a reward we will enjoy for many years. Many thanks to all those who contributed to this project. Your generosity and support have been noted and greatly appreciated. To the trustees, fundraisers and friends of the instrument, a special thank you for the extra hours you have put into the completion of the project. Many generations of worshipers will enjoy benefits from your commitment. Feel free to come by the sanctuary during the week and spend a little time looking over the new instrument. This gift will be enhancing worship, lifting spirits and inspiring disciples for many years to come. Preparations are now being made for a dedicatory recital - be sure to watch for more information as we move through this process.

Advent Season: A series on Handel's “Messiah"

Come and sing!!

Each Sunday in Advent, our choirs will present selections from George F. Handel's "Messiah." On the third Sunday of Advent - December 15 - the 8:30 and 11:00 AM worship services will enjoy most of the "Christmas Portion" of this work - involving choirs, soloists, and instrumentalists. We are now rehearsing this music in our Wednesday evening rehearsals at 7:30 PM in the choir room. All persons interested in singing "Messiah" are invited and encouraged to join us! Come and sing!!

Lack of access to healthcare is one of the most broad reaching health crises in the country crossing all races and regions. The new Marketplace for health insurance should help to bridge the gap of accessibility to healthcare and catch diseases before they are medical crises that we all pay for.

The new government marketplace works like this:
