Slow(er) Time… Safety Director, Mike Gapp For many in the company, this is the time where we slow down. Your versatility is the backbone of our company. You will likely find yourself helping somewhere doing something that you don’t remember signing up for. Unfortunately, nearly half of our company’s injuries involve someone performing a task outside their normal duties. Last month, I talked about the “2 second rule”; the brief moment of hesitation before you do something potentially hazardous. Again, our company can’t function without your flexibility. However, when you’re asked to do something outside your normal job description, take a little time to think about what you’re doing. Ask these simple questions: Do I have the right tools? Do I have the right PPE? Could I use a little help? Answering these questions, then acting appropriately, will help you go home the way you came in.
