There is going to be a committee meeting in Morro Bay on Saturday, November 17th, and the majority of the issues should be hammered out at that time. There’s always a need for people to step up and help put this great event together, so if you’d like to help out, please, join us at the meeting. You can contact any of the committee members to get the particulars for time and location. San Joaquin Chapter’s Jesse Aguilar has a contact in Tacoma, Washington that he’s familiar with that can do up some of the club plaques for us at a reasonable price. It was decided to send him one of the old plaques and see if he can clean it up, and make the detail a little sharper on it. If he can, we will place an order for 25 plaques to start with. Most of you should be aware of the revision to the clubs By-Laws that was recently voted on. In essence, the change is to allow people that have an appreciation and interest in the trucks that have been the focus of our club (1928 through 1966 Ford commercial vehicles) will no longer be required to have actual ownership of at least one of the trucks. Obviously, the purpose is an attempt to generate more interest in participating in our organization, and hopefully encouraging those people to buy a truck for themselves. The final tally of votes resulted in the amendment passing with an overwhelming majority. At some point in the future you can expect to see some changes in the appearance of your club newsletter. The E-Board agreed to reimburse me for my expenses for the purchase of the latest version of Adobe’s InDesign software. For those of you who know what this software is, and how much it sells for, don’t panic...I was able to by it direct from Adobe at a HUGE discount. Fair warning though, I am a complete novice on the computer, and this is a very complex program, so be aware the changes will be coming slowly. East Bay Chapter is once again participating with a number of other clubs to put on the show for the vets at the Veterans Hospital in Menlo Park. This worthy cause is something they’ve been a part of for several years, and the E-Board voted to, once again, donate $50 to the event. November 11th is Veterans Day, but the show is on the 4th. I’ll put it in the events column as soon as I a flyer. (The flyer is in, & you’ll find it at the back of the newsletter…….Jim) The Anniversary Run is behind us, and although the turnout was a little disappointing, those who participated had a great time. Nancy is already hard at work on next year’s run, and would like everyone to put their thinking caps on and give her some ideas on how we can make the event even better. Whatever thoughts or ideas you have, pass them on to your E-Board representative, or give Nancy a call. The earlier you get them in, the better. The July, 2013 E-Board meeting is when the final decisions will be made on what, and where, and she would like as much advance time as possible to look into each and every suggestion that is given. There was some discussion about how to streamline the raffle at this run, as well as deciding on which chapter will handle it next year. Port City Chapter volunteered to do it. The date for the 2013 Anniversary Run is Sunday, September 15, 2013. The last order of business was providing as many dates as are known for the events each chapter puts on. What was given so far is: Easter Run (Delta) 3/30/13; Silicon Valley Cruise (Silicon Valley) 5/4/13; Cruisin’ To The Grove (Port City) 6/2/13; Back To Graffiti (Modesto) 6/14 &15/13; Summer Bash (Modesto) 7/21/13; and Pumpkin Run (Livermore) 10/27/13. A big THANK YOU to everyone who generously give of their time to attend these meetings, for the benefit of all of us.

TTRRIIVVIIAA Last month’s question: Who was known for the famous exit line, “Good night Mrs. Calabash, wherever you are”?

Answer: Jimmy Durante (“I didn't even have to look that up. I remember him saying that all the time.” Susan Davis, Modesto Chapter) & (Jane Hudgins, Ford Federation)

This month’s question: From what movie came the famous line “Mein Fuhrer, I can walk”?

Hi from East Bay, Don’t forget the Car Show for the Vets on November 4th, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. There’s no registration fee, goody bags for the vets, and you get to spend some quality time with our injured, wounded, and recovering vets. The show will be held at the Menlo Park VA hospital. It’s a great cause, plus there will be some good food to go with it. If you’d like to be a part of this special time, contact Jim or Edith Hannett, at (510)797-1252, for the meeting time and place. There was a recent article in Cruisin’ News magazine telling that TV’s Dr. Phil had his beautiful, black 57 Chevy stolen from a repair shop in Burbank, CA. Most of our chapter attended the 2nd Annual Colusa Casino Car Show on October 13th. They repotred that there were a lot of Rat Rods, cars and trucks, they’ve never seen before. The show was enjoyed by all and they want to return next year. Hopefully, club plaques will be ordered soon, and be ready early next year.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Keep On Truckin’ Ken Rogers

Hi all- I have attached a copy of the Car Show For The Vets flyer. I hope more F-100s can attend this year. We are in need of contributions for items we will be purchasing for the hospitalized vets. Thank you for your support. Jim and Edith Hannett (510) 797-1252

The weekly car shows are slowly dwindling to an end. If you are like us, it will be nice to have some time to actually work on our trucks. No more eating out every Friday night, which probably will help our budgets, and let’s not forget our waistlines. We know after a few months off we will be chomping at the bit to get out again, but that is another story. A & W end of the year car show (October 21st) was a great success. It was a cloudy day with rain coming soon, but it held off till later that night. There were over 300 cars at this great event. Some cars were waiting to be parked at 4:30 a.m. when the owner of A & W showed up at his place. Little do we know when they actually got there? I guess car show participants do not need a lot of sleep. They seem to always want to get there early so they can get the BEST parking spot. Personally I think just being there is special enough, but that is my opinion. As usual they had a great raffle and great food. The Boy Scout troop of Lodi always does a great job cooking and we must not forget those great A & W hamburgers and ROOT BEER. Art Davis, Earl Pecka and Howard Kleinert got up at the crack of dawn. Oh wait, it was even before that. They were there early to help park the vehicles and help block off the city street. Nancy and Jose B, from Livermore showed up later to enjoy the show. They had a little trouble getting out of bed that morning. Their pillows were way too comfy. You will probably be reading this after Livermore’s Pumpkin Run. As I am writing this, the weekend looks to be great, but over the last couple of days the weatherman keeps changing his forecast for the workweek. However, so far the weekend has not changed so we hope that will be the case. They have always had pretty good luck. Maybe some close calls but it has always been wonderful weather. Potato Fun Facts

RREECCIIPPEE OOFF TTHHEE MMOONNTTHH FRESH APPLE CINNAMON SCONES

By: Karen Kleinert, Port City Chapter SCONES 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour 1/3 cup granulated sugar 3/4 teaspoon salt 1 tablespoon baking powder 1 teaspoon Apple Pie Spice or ground cinnamon 1/2 cup (8 tablespoons) cold butter 3/4 cup shopped fresh apple, in 1/2” pieces about half of a medium apple) leave the skin on, if you like 3/4 cup cinnamon chips 2 large eggs 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/2 cup applesauce, unsweetened preferred

TOPPING 3 tablespoons coarse white sparkling sugar 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

DIRECTIONS

1) In a large mixing bowl, whish together the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder and spice. 2) Work in the butter just until the mixture is unevenly crumbly” it’s OK for some larger chunks of butter to remain unincorporated. 3) Stir in the chopped apple and cinnamon chips. 4) In a separate mixing bowl, whish together the eggs, vanilla and applesauce. 5) Add the liquid ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until all is moistened and holds together. 6) Line a baking sheet with parchment; if you don’t’ have parchment; just use it without greasing it. Sprinkle a bit of flour atop the parchment or pan. 7) Scrape the dough onto the floured parchment or pan, and divide it in half. Gently pat and round each half into a 5” to 51/2” circle about 3/4” thick. 8) To make the topping: Stir together the coarse sugar and cinnamon. Brush each circle with milk, and sprinkle with the topping. 9) Using a knife or bench knife that you’ve run under cold water, slice each circle into 6 wedges. 10) Carefully pull the wedges away from the center to separate them just a bit; there should be about 1/2” space between them, at their outer edges. 11) For best texture and highest rise, place the pan of scones in the freezer for 30 minutes, uncovered. While the scones are shilling, preheat the oven to 425 F. 12) Bake the scones for 18 to 22 minutes, or until they’re golden brown. When you pull one away from the other, it should look baked all the way through” The edge shouldn’t look wet or unbaked. 13) Remove the scones from the oven, and cool briefly on the pan. Serve warm. When they’re completely cool, wrap in plastic and store at room temperature for up to several days

Yield: 12 Scones

Tips from the bakers Why freeze the scones before baking? Because 30 minutes in the freezer relaxes the gluten in the flour, which makes the scones more tender and allows them to rise higher. It also chills the fat, which will make the sconces a bit flakier.

Page 7: November 2012

7

To make free-form rather than the wedge-shaped scones, increase the applesauce to 3/4 cup. Using a large ice cream scoop or spoon, dollop the scone dough in 1/3-cupfiuls onto a lightly greased or parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake the sconces in a preheated 375 degree oven for about 30 minutes. Scones are best served warm. They’re delicious as is, but add butter and /or jam (or apple butter), if you like. To reheat room-temperature scones, place on a baking sheet, tent lightly with foil, and warm in a preheated 350 degree oven for about 10 minutes.

FIGHT SPEEDING TICKETS WITH THE NEWLY RELEASED IPHONE APP, ‘TICKETDEFENDER’!

TicketDefender tracks and reports vehicle’s speeds to protect drivers from undeserved speeding tickets. TicketDefender is a newly released iPhone App that enables drivers to protect themselves from undeserved speeding tickets by providing a printed report that shows their vehicle’s GPS speed and location prior to the issuance of a ticket. Police radar makes mistakes, lots of them. In America more than 100,000 people per day receive speeding tickets. Some experts estimate that 10-20% of all radar-backed speeding tickets are issued in error and in the case of radar operated from a moving police vehicle the number of inaccurate tickets may be as high as 30%! Yet, the use of Radar is widely accepted and we naturally assume the technology is reliable1. But good news is just an Apple App away. After a truck driver received one these erroneous speeding tickets, he decided that something had to be done. He presented his idea to a friend who is an engineer, and TicketDefender was born. As a user drives their vehicle TicketDefender automatically records the speed, time of day, and GPS location. If the driver is pulled over for speeding, he simply clicks “Press When Ticketed” to capture the last hour of data and generate the free Speed Report and free Map Report. Instructions for how to print these non-editable, encrypted and watermarked Speed and Map Reports are sent to the driver’s email address. These two reports can be used in court as evidence against wrongfully issued tickets to protect drivers from “the officer’s word against mine” situations. The TicketDefender Speed and Map Reports include the vehicle’s make and model, license number, time and date, the vehicle’s speed recorded every 3-5 seconds and a map showing the vehicle’s location and corresponding speed. If the speed on the TicketDefender report is different from the speed indicated on the ticket, the driver has a valid "not guilty" argument. This report can then be presented in court or with employers in defense of inaccurate speeding tickets. Radar can often clock incorrect vehicle speeds causing an unwarranted ticket, but until the release of TicketDefender there has been no way for drivers to prove that they were driving at a speed that was different from the speed stated on the ticket. TicketDefender can be a valuable tool, both for fighting speeding tickets and for proof of speed at the time of a car accident. TicketDefender is certainly a benefit for any driver or commuter and particularly beneficial for individuals whose livelihood depends on a positive driving record such as truckers, bus and taxi drivers. TicketDefender will track any vehicle in which the phone is located, once the vehicle’s data has been entered. One TicketDefender download can be used for multiple vehicles including company and family member’s vehicles TicketDefender will also multitask; it continues to track speed and locations while you use the phone and other applications. The one time download of TicketDefender can be used repeatedly to give a lifetime of protection from undeserved or inaccurate speeding tickets.
