Getting Better Every Year - The World Series Of House-keeping! & A Luncheon Challenge From Your President!

    Mary

This year’s World Series of Housekeeping happened Mon., Oct. 25 at the Memphis Cook Convention Center. As the Heartbreakers (my team!) were standing around socializing, several mentioned how big this event has grown. So, I asked Stephanie Herrada, my Food, Beverage & Retail Manager to give me a room count. She counted 154 people in attendance including the teams participating. This year we again set a record: 14 teams in the competition. That’s fantastic!! My team has been there since day one, and we all remembered how we were only able to get 5 or 6 teams to compete in the very beginning. So yes baby, we have come a long way, but we are not finished yet! A big thank you goes to Tony Goebel, his Marriott staff, to Pierre Landaiche, and his Cook Convention Center staff for making this event such a success. And my vote goes to bring the luncheon with the Taco Bar BACK!!!! Tony, you should really thank whoever thought of that last year because it was such a nice idea. No one had ever said anything about not having food, but I heard lots of comments about NOT having that wonderful TACO Bar this year. So Tony, let’s talk TACOS. Congratulations to the Peabody Hotel team for taking FIRST place in this

year’s Housekeeping World Series. EP’s Heartbreakers captured second place, and third place winners was the Doubletree Downtown. Watch out Peabody!! We’re gonna getcha ya next year! Are you up to a challenge? Well, ready or not here it comes. This is

YOUR Association – you get out of it what you put into it! Our attendance at our monthly meetings has steadily climbed, and for your participation, I thank you, but we need your assistance with recruiting new members. How long has it been since you invited a non-member/allied to our monthly meet-ing? Not only do we all get a chance to visit with another hotelier/allied, they get a great lunch, and a chance to participate in a fantastic program. What a win-win for you, your guest and the Association!! So here goes your challenge—I challenge each of you to bring one non-member to a monthly meeting during the next year, and to introduce him/her to Anne-Marie Fa-malette, our Membership Committee Chair, at the meeting. If Anne-Marie is not present, please make sure to introduce him/her to Peggy or myself so we can get their contact information to follow up on the benefits of MMHLA. Below are two charts chart detailing the last five years of our membership. You can refer to our 2010 Membership Directory for a complete listing of members, and if you don’t have one, I bet you John Rucker will cheerfully find one for you! So—here we GROW again!

In closing, I would like to thank Wayne Tabor, (our current Chairman and Nomina-tion Committee Chair) and the Nominating Committee (Doug Brown, Doug Owings, Craig Marshall, Mohamad Hakimian, Terry Umbreit) for their contributions to next year’s proposed slate of officers. Alright, enough said, till next month, same time, same place. MaryPS - Thanks to everyone for exercising

one of our greatest privileges—the right to vote, and if you did not vote, Shame on you!!!!!
