For Grade 12 students, please touch base with Mrs. Hart if you need any assistance in career planning, applying for post-secondary or to discuss other career goals. For scholar-ships, this is a personal journey. Any schol-arships we are aware of are located on the J. R. Robson School Website. Follow this link below. You can also go the J. R. Robson home page and on the first page there is a red first place ribbon that will take you to the scholar-

Work Experience/RAP/Green Certificate - students enrolled in this program need to hand in your hours and necessary evalua-tions as required. Please see Miss Felt or Mrs. Scully if you have questions or paperwork to hand in.

May you enjoy the blessings of the holiday season, spend time with family and friends and have a Merry Christmas and all the Best in 2016.

Mrs. Polishuk and Mrs. Hart

A very special welcome to the students who have joined J. R. Robson during the month of November. We hope that you are settling in and are feeling part of our school.

Congratulations to all the award winners at Awards Night held on November 6. A very special thank you to Mrs. Wilhelm for all the hours of work she puts into making this evening a success. Unfortunately not all of us can win first prize but as long as you are working hard and doing your best -- that is what counts. Thank you to each student who has contributed to making our athletics,

leadership, academic and citizenship pro-grams a success. You Rock!

With fewer than 30 class days left in this se-mester, there is still a lot of course material to cover. Sometimes the stress of Christmas and lack of sunshine can affect us in a nega-tive way and your focus wanders. For Grade 12’s, most of your courses will be completed with Christmas Break so it is important you are diligent in your studies as Diploma exam-inations will occur very quickly after the Christmas break.

As counsellors we would like to encourage all parents to continue to monitor your child’s progress on Power School’s parent portal: h t t p s : / / p o w e r s c h o o l . b t p s . c a /parents. Progress Reports will be handed out on December 10, but if you have any con-cerns about your child’s progress please do not hesitate to contact the classroom teacher to discuss your concerns.

Diplomax courses are no longer available through Buffalo Trail Public Schools. They are only available in Edmonton for any stu-dents who are interested in attending these courses. Please use the following link if you are interested in registering for a session to help you prepare for your diploma examina-tions http://www.primetimelearning.ca/ For students who are interested in a home study option, there is a program called iPrep Plus which offere electronic review resources to help students get the results they are striving f o r i n t h e a c a d e m i c c o u r s -

Back to back BTPS Boys Volleyball champs!!!

The JR Robson Junior High Boys volleyball team repeated as BTPS champions for the second year in a row. After defeating St Jerome’s for the highway 16 banner a week earlier, the team traveled to Wainwright for the championships on November 3rd. The kids had their 'A' game not d r o p p i n g a s e t t h e e n t i r e day. They swept through the tourna-ment beating the home town Com-mandoes in two sets to capture the gold. Congratulations to the boys for another tremendous volleyball season! They are charting a course for a strong boys volleyball program at JR for years to come! We're proud of you!

Give the gift of “Time” to help kids thrive

Take the time every day to invest in building developmental relationships with the children and youth in your life. Building relationships and assets in families plays a powerful role in children’s growth. Research conducted by the Search Institute shows that kids with strong developmental relationships are more responsible, have a greater sense of purpose, are more caring, set goals for themselves and are more engaged in learning. Here are some actions you can take to build relationships with the children and youth in your life:

Express CARE ~ Show that you like me and want the best for me. Be Present—Pay attention when you are with me. Be Warm—Let me know that you like being with me and express positive feelings toward me. Invest—Commit time and energy to doing things for and with me. Show Interest—Make it a priority to understand who I am and what I care about. Be Dependable—Be someone I can count on and trust.

CHALLENGE Growth ~ Encourage me to improve. Inspire—Help me see future possibilities for myself. Expect—Make it clear that you want me to live up to my potential. Stretch—Recognize my thoughts and abilities while also pushing me to strengthen them. Limit—Hold me accountable for appropriate boundaries and rules.

Provide SUPPORT ~ Help me complete tasks and achieve goals. Encourage—Praise my efforts and achievements. Guide—Provide practical assistance and feedback to help me learn. Model—Be an example I can learn from and admire. Advocate—Stand up for me when I need it.

Share POWER ~ Hear my voice and let me share in making decisions. Respect—Take me seriously and treat me fairly. Give Voice—Ask for and listen to my opinions and consider them when you make decisions. Respond—Understand and adjust to my needs, interests, and abilities. Collaborate—Work with me to accomplish goals and solve problems.

Expand POSSIBILITIES ~ Expand my horizons and connect me to opportunities. Explore—Expose me to new ideas, experiences, and places. Connect—Introduce me to people who can help me grow. Navigate—Help me work through barriers that could stop me from achieving my goals
