Dear Family,
On Tuesday, November 20, Franki Moscato, a 16 year-old, Oshkosh
Native, singer/songwriter shared her powerful message about how
important it is to “Be Kind,” through her gift of music and song.
All students in 5K through 8th grade attended this event, as did a few
parents. Our students also received a “Be Kind” t-shirt through a
generous donation from Catholic Financial. It was a great opportunity to
come together as a school to remember and celebrate what we are called to
do; love one another! Be sure to check out the Holy Trinity Facebook page,
our htschool.net website, and the Kewaskum Statesman for great pictures
from this event!
In case you missed the Home & School meeting last Tuesday evening, I
shared information on Amy McCready’s positive parenting solutions. She
is a TODAY Show Parenting contributor and is the Founder of Positive-
ParentingSolutions.com. She is also a best-selling author of The “Me, Me,
Me” Epidemic - A Step-by-Step Guide to Raising Capable, Grateful Kids in
an Over-Entitled World and If I Have to Tell You One More Time…The
Revolutionary Program That Gets Your Kids to Listen Without Nagging,
Reminding or Yelling.
As a “recovering yeller” and a Certified Positive Discipline Instructor,
Amy is a champion of positive parenting techniques for happier families
and well-behaved kids. In her most important role, she is the proud mom
of two amazing young men. Below is the link to her free webinar.

I also shared some information about Social Emotional Learning and
Development, and the impact it has on helping your child develop the
kinds of skills, attitudes, and behaviors your child needs to be successful
at school and life. A great website to check out is: https://casel.org/in-the-
home/.

Standards-Based Grading (SBG) Information
Here is the special section, where each week, I will share information about what “Standards-Based
Learning and Assessment” means, what it will look like for your child, and why we are making the change.
What is Standards-Based Grading?
The term standards-based refers to systems of instruction, assessment, grading, and academic reporting
that are based on students demonstrating understanding or mastery of the knowledge and skills they are
expected to learn as they progress through their education. In schools that use standards-based
approaches to educating students, learning standards—i.e., concise, written descriptions of what students
are expected to know and be able to do at a specific stage of their education—determine the goals of a
lesson or course, and teachers then determine how and what to teach students so they achieve the learn-
ing expectations described in the standards.
Standards-based approaches to educating students use state learning standards to determine academic
expectations and define “proficiency” in a given course, subject area, or grade level. The general goal of
standards-based learning is to ensure that students are acquiring the knowledge and skills that are
deemed to be essential to success in school, higher education, careers, and adult life. If students fail to
meet expected learning standards, they typically receive additional instruction, practice time, and
academic support to help them achieve proficiency or meet the learning expectations described in the
standards.
Standards-based grading, when implemented effectively throughout a school or district, requires clearly
delineated learning goals, proficiency scales to measure those learning goals, assessments to determine
students’ current status on each learning goal, and report cards that show exactly what students know. It
requires teachers, students, and parents to reconsider long-held beliefs about what grades mean, how
they should be assigned, and how they can be used appropriately.
This standards-based approach to educating students, and use of learning standards is not new at Holy
Trinity. The Common-Core State Standards were incorporated into the Curriculum of the Archdiocese of
Milwaukee a number a years ago and have been used in instruction and assessments since then. The
biggest change will come with what the report card will look like when it is implemented next year using
proficiency scales. As I share more information with you, it will become clear how these proficiency scales
show your child’s academic achievement.

Kewaskum Christmas Parade
Sunday, December 2nd
HTS will have a float in the parade and we need your help! We will be building the float
on Saturday, December 1st at Trend Setters here in Kewaskum from 10:00 to 2:00. We will
also need student volunteers to walk along side the float dressed as Christmas gifts. If you can
help with construction, or your child would like to be in the parade, please contact Cheryl Scott
at [email protected] or 414-807-4935 or Megan Sargent at
[email protected] or 262-339-8498. They will give you all the information on
who, what, when, and where for day of the parade.
Thank you in advance for helping with this project.
A Concert of Christmas Music
The KEYS (Kewaskum Youth Scholarships, Inc) is hosting a Christmas concert on Sunday,
December 9th at 7:00 p.m. at the Kewaskum High School Theatre. General Admission will be
$5.00 and all proceeds will benefit the Keys Scholarship Fund. Please remember that your child
may benefit from KEYS down the road at high school graduation time!
“Gifts of Goodness for the Birth of Jesus Christ”
Advent 2018
Please see the flyer in this week’s family folder that has all the information about how we, as a
school family, and you at home can prepare for Christ’s coming. Our theme this year is “Gifts
of Goodness” and you will see on the flyer how we are celebrating this. We will also be doing
a service project that will help the domestic abuse shelter of Friends Inc. of West Bend. All
the details can be found in the flyer. Please make sure to read it so you can prepare for this
wonderful season of Advent with your child.
God Bless!
The Show Must Go On
We have several students here at HTS that
are very talented in theater. The students
pictured to the left, were in the Kewaskum
High School production of The Wizard of
Oz a few weeks ago. We would like to give
a hand to these students for stepping out of
the box and stepping into the theatre lights!
Pictured left to right, front row: Aubrey Pari and

Garb, Mia Dornacker, and Brooke Muckerheide.
Winter Weather is Here!
The calendar may state that it is still Autumn, but Mother Nature is not agreeing!
We are experiencing lower than normal temps for this time of the year and your
children need to be dressed for these cold temps. There was a note in the last
news letter reminding parents that the students go outside anytime the temp is
above 0 degrees. This means all students need to be dressed for the cold
weather for their health and safety. If our child does not have snow pants or
boots, recess will not be very fun as they will have to stand on the sidewalk and
will not play in the snow. If you have extra an set of boots and snow pants that
you would like to keep here for your child, please let their teacher know. The
middle school students NEED to have a winter coat, winter hat, or ear
muffs/winter head band, and gloves or mittens.
2018-2019 Ski & Snowboard Club
We are still looking for one more student to achieve the
number of participants needed to get the group discount.
Please contact Wendy Muckerheide at (262)-626-6772 ASAP, if your
child is interested. This is a great opportunity for your child to
learn some awesome Wisconsin winter sports, at a very reasonable
price.
