Pastor Joshua Mangels and his wife, Teresa, are proud of the congregation at the The Praise Center. “Our members really have a heart for the community and a love for the people in this area,” says Teresa.
Pastor Mangels and his wife are no exception. After volunteering at the Marana Food Bank with Board Member and volunteer, John Procaccino, Pastor Mangels decided to bring the emergency food service closer to home.
“I saw a lot of people at the Marana Food Bank whose faces I’ve seen around Picture Rocks. I knew there were likely a lot of folks who were still needing assistance, but unable to find transportation.”
Pastor Mangels and Mr. Procaccino collaborated to get the program up and running, although Mangels says, “Without John, it wouldn’t have happened.” Teresa adds, “He really spearheaded it.” On the

2 FALL 2014 Marana Community Food Bank Nourishing News
Dear Friends,
I can be moved to tears by the simplest things sometimes: the hard work of a
volunteer whose reward is knowing that they are helping someone whose need is greater than their own; the generosity of a donor—those who give a little and those who give a lot; the suffering of a mother who is worried about how the kids will have enough to eat or the senior who agonizes over the decision to ask the food bank for help. I guess that I am utterly moved by people—their courage and their kindness.
The Marana Community Food Bank will be broadening its potential this year by partnering with other agencies. On October 2 we hosted the Hope Summit and brought together 25 other non-profits who are serving the people of the Marana area. From this gathering we are building collaborations and friendships because I believe we will be stronger this way.
Our family was made stronger this year by the addition of five new members of our advisory board. You will see their names on this page. They are guiding us into the future of the Marana Community Food Bank through a visioning process that takes a hard look at not only how are we doing now but what do we need to be doing to prepare for the future needs of the community we serve.
A Feeding America audit process this Fall is encouraging us to examine policies and procedures designed to ensure that the food we distribute is handled properly and will be safe for the most vulnerable among us. Our ship has never been so tight.
I invite every reader to visit our little food bank to witness the courage and the kindness. But if you are anything like me, better bring a hanky.
Sincerely,
Linda Hampton Executive Director Marana Community Food Bank

September was Hunger Action Month, when we asked everyone in Southern Arizona to take action to fight hunger in their community.
The highlight of Hunger Action Month was the annual Hunger Walk, on September 20th. People came out by the thousands across Tucson, Marana, and Green Valley to participate in this important event. Because of your generous help and support, we’ll be able to feed more children and families than ever before!

2nd and 4th Wednesdays of every month, Procaccino can be found driving a truck to The Praise Center to hand out TEFAP food boxes. On any given distribution day between 20 and 40 people take advantage of the service.
In order to keep the service running smoothly, Procaccino and Mangels rely on the help of volunteers from the church. “It’s just amazing,” says Teresa “how the people
in our church have jumped in and shown their support.” “When I found out the church was looking for volunteers, I just knew it was something I wanted to do,”
says Lilo Bruno, one of eight volunteers who has been through the training program.“I’ve always been involved in the church wherever we’ve lived,” she says. “I can relate, too. I grew up not
having. I grew up doing without.” And for Lilo’s husband, Perry, a deacon at The Praise Center, giving back is part of life. “We’re so blessed.
Our bills are paid. We have food on the table. We have a nice home. We just pass the blessing along.”
