Transcript of Nourishing Our Community For 40 Years
In 1975, most of the produce at the Food Bank comes from volunteers gleaning in the fields and packing sheds.
In 1988, The Food Bank, Inc. merges with San Mateo County Food Bank (then operated by Catholic Charities) and the new organization is named Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties.
In 1992, Second Harvest undertakes a dramatic expansion of facilities, first acquiring a facility on Curtner Ave. in San Jose,
then another on Bing Street in San Carlos two years later. Combined, the two facilities double the Food Bank's square footage.
In 2005, Second Harvest establishes mobile farmer’s marketsto bring fresh fruits and vegetables to local neighborhoods.
In 2012, Second Harvest “cements” its commitment to providing nutritious food by opening a dedicated 75,000-square-foot
fresh produce facility in North San Jose
