“Strange things are afoot at the Circle K…”- Ted Theodore Logan

Well, strange things are afoot at the Circle K, I mean the CPOP, the ArchSTL. First, it’s the 6th

Sunday of Easter, and the Holy Spirit, the Advocate, is referenced not once, but twice in the readings. The pic above reflects disciples a er having received the Holy Spirit a er hands were laid on them.

What takes center stage in this space this week and next is the return to public Masses in the Archdiocese of St. Louis, effec ve this Monday, May 18. But be prepared, Mass is NOT going to look like it did before COVID-19, at least not yet. Now here’s what you need to know from the Archdiocese of St. Louis. Highlighted items are in bold.

Masses at CPOP will follow the regular Mass schedule for the me being.

GENERAL GUIDELINES/REMINDERS

· Dispensa on of the obliga on to a end Sunday Mass con nues un l further no ce.

We will con nue to livestream Mass each Sunday. Simply go to: h ps://christprinceofpeace.com/live-stream

· Parishioners who are symptoma c or who have been exposed to another with the virus should not come to church, in accordance with na onal, state and local health direc ves.

· Appropriate cleaning of high-use areas within the church is completed before and a er each service.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE)

· The faithful are obliged to wear a mask during the celebra on of Mass, except for the brief moment of receiving Communion.

· Ushers and other volunteers will wear masks and gloves (when gloves are not available, frequent handwashing will be necessary) throughout the celebra on of Mass.

NO SIGN OF PEACE

HOLY COMMUNION · Communicants are to receive the Host in the hand in keeping with the advice of state health officials

· Communion ministers must be masked and must sani ze their hands immediately before and a er distribu ng Communion.

· Distribu on of Holy Communion from the chalice is prohibited to the assembly. For those who suffer from celiac disease, special arrangements are to be made with the pastor.

· When approaching the Communion minister, the communicant is to pull their mask below their chin in order to prepare to receive Communion as above. The communicant immediately replaces their mask a er consuming the Host.

NOTES FROM THE PASTOR

· Maintaining a single-file is necessary for the distribu on of Holy Communion for each Communion minister and communicant to maintain social distancing.

Finally, maybe the most painful part of all is there will be no gatherings or gree ngs before or a er Mass. While I greatly miss our parish family, I must first be concerned about your health and safety.

We cling to hope that we will return to normalcy at some point, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Please remember that collec ons remain essen al to the con nued opera on of our parish and our mission. Please use online giving, drop off or mail your contribu ons to the rectory. Here is the link to sign up for online giving: h ps://christprinceofpeace.com/on-line-giving

Pic above means even more now, eh?!

But, it’s s ll Easter, so the celebra on con nues! He is Risen, Alleluia!

Upcoming Parish Events:

For this week, beginning Monday, May 18, the regular Mass schedule resumes.

Confessions: Saturday at 4 p.m. and by appointment.

Using our Bodies to Unlock Stress and Anxiety

There’s no shortage of things to stress us out these days. And telling ourselves “don’t worry about it” isn’t ge ng the job done usually. You may think the answer is in your head but actually it’s in your body. In fact, that’s what stress is, a physical reac on to an external s mulus. The good news is, o en mes, just paying a en on to the symptoms of stress can reduce them. Here are some ps to help you become more aware of what your body is telling you about how you feel.

Look inward. When you find yourself being easily agitated or worrying too much, focus on what’s happening inside your body. Where is the stress? Where is the anger? Where is the fear? Where do you experience tension? What’s going on in your head, your stomach and your chest? Has your breathing or heartbeat changed?

Scan your body. A body scan is a type of guided medita on where we take anywhere from 2 to 90 minutes and put a structure on paying a en on to what we are feeling in our body. You can find examples on apps such as Headspace or Stop, Breath & Think or simply searching on YouTube for “body scan.”

Reframe. Once you are able to iden fy the feeling in your body, try adjus ng the way you talk to yourself about it. Instead of saying, “I am stressed” say, “there’s some stress there.” The same works for other feelings such as sadness, anger, or fear. The most recent research has shown that once you iden fy and label an emo on as a part of our body, the intensity will start to decrease and become more tolerable.

Call on the Spirit. While doing all this, ask the Holy Spirit to fill and guide you. Placing ourselves in the presence of God can only help make us more aware of what we are feeling and be what we are called to be.

If you are feeling the strain of life a bit more these days, please reach out to Tony, our Parish Counselor at 636-594-0011 or [email protected]. He is available and scheduling appointments via phone and video conferencing.

The Day School Marke ng Team would like to thank our amazing community for suppor ng CPOP's par cipa on in Give STL Day on May 7, 2020.

Thanks to your generous support, we raised $2,228 to improve the school's WiFi to allow for more efficient internet and enhanced technology in all grade levels. Thank you!!

STRENGTHENED TO LIVE AS CHRIST’S OWNWe might look at the world around us and conclude that this is the most challenging time in his-

tory during which to live as a person of faith. Yet we know this is not so. Throughout the ages, people of faith have faced mockery, persecution, and even death as a result of their commitment to Christ. Still, it is important for us to acknowledge the challenge of living as a Christian today, when faith is viewed with ambivalence at best, and often with antagonism. Some do not understand how faith and reason can sit side by side, even though many of the world’s greatest scientific discoveries have been made by people of faith. Others see the failures of the Church or its leaders and discount faith as a result. We rely on the powerful presence of the Holy Spirit to be with us when we are mocked or simply misunderstood on account of our faith in Jesus Christ. Through the Holy Spirit, we will find the grace to live with conviction as Christian people.

Saint Peter admonishes us, “Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope.” One of the greatest gifts of faith in our lives is our hope in Christ Jesus. Through Christ, we keep our eyes on the wider view of life here on earth and everlasting life with God. We know that the trials and challenges of today do not have the final word, and do not have power over us. With the presence of the Advocate, we have the help we need to live as God directs and desires, so that the world might come to know Christ through the witness of our lives. This is a hope-filled, meaningful way of life. When so much of our surrounding culture speaks of impermanence and momentary distractions, we have the hope of meaning and purpose today and the promise of eternal life to come.
