A noun is a naming word
Names a person, place, thing, or idea
A noun can be used as the subject, an appositive, the direct object, the indirect object, the object of the preposition, object complement, and the subject complement
Refer to notes – “Sentence Elements”
Singular and Plural Nouns Add –s to most nouns to form the plurals
Add –es to form the plurals of nouns ending in s, x, z, ch, sh
dress=dresses church=churches
box=boxes flash=flashes
Form the plurals of nouns ending in y preceded by a vowel by adding –s
toy=toysattorney=attorneys
birthday=birthdays guy=guys
Singular and Plural Nouns Form the plurals of nouns ending in y preceded
by a consonant by changing the y to i and adding =es
lily=lillies baby=babies
colony=colonies party=parties
Singular and Plural Nouns If a noun ends in o preceded by a vowel, form
the plural by adding –s
trio=trios rodeo=rodeos
If a noun ends in o preceded by a consonant, form the plural by adding –es
Tomato = tomatoes
There are exceptions to this rule…check a dictionary
Zero= zeros or zeroes pianos=pianos
