We have had complaints in the past from residents about speeders generally driving to and from school. If you see this type of activity on your particular streets, please advise the Board and we will have our Constables pay particular attention to those streets. Adults need to obey the school zone laws and young drivers need to obey the speed signs! For those of you that are interested in such matters, Texas state law allows political poster signs to be displayed in subdivisions 90 days before an election and up to 10 days after the election. Perhaps many of you are as tired of them as I am but the good news is the elections, for better or worse, will be over in November. That means ALL political signs need to come down within 10 days after the November election. We appreciate the fact that homeowners are involved in the political process but when it ends, lets get rid of the signs. Now if we could just have a law to get rid of those nailed to every pole in the Houston area! We have had some very nice rain this past summer, which surely beats what we ex- perienced last year. During one of the heavy rains, we drove around the subdivision and saw many alleyways with clogged drains due to leaves, pine cones, needles, etc. Folks, we have told you before that if you do not take steps to clean away debris from storm sewers and drains, you run the risk of high water and flooding. Someone along the alleyway drains needs to take responsibility to sweep away the debris from time to time. The MUD and NCCIA are NOT going to do this for you as it’s a common sense issue. During one of the rainstorms, we experienced some strong winds and, of course, it resulted in some downed trees and breakage of large limbs. Please get your trees trimmed periodically and avoid this kind of problem. Again much less costly to spend a few hundred dollars having trees trimmed than a few thousand dollars when a tree or large limb falls on your home or car. Most tree companies will reduce the fees if there are a number of homeowners on a street that request trimming. Might be a good idea to get with your neighbors and contract with a company to do a number of homes and save some money. We have a few homes in NC where the front yards look like jungles due to the lack of tree trimming. Again, those homeowners will be subject to legal action if they do not correct the problem. Trailers, Trailers, Trailers! They are not allowed to be parked in NC, either in your driveway, alleyways or streets. We are seeing way too many. The Board has filed suit against one homeowner who continually parks a trailer in the alleyway filled with tree limbs and debris. We will continue to do this until folks get the message. This is not a dumping ground or a commercial parking lot. If you have a trailer, use it and then go park it in some storage facility that allows such things. The same goes for boats. We do not mind a homeowner parking a boat for the weekend at their home for maintenance, etc. but after a few days it needs to be moved out. Don Mach NCCIA President and Legal Liaison

FOREClOSURES IN NOTTINgham COUNTRYThe following is the current inventory of foreclosed homes in NC as of 7/5/12:

ADDRESS OWNER1327 Dominion Central Mortgage 402 Sancroft GMAC Mortgage1514 Hannington Bank of America 502 Sancroft GMAC Mortgage510 Rennie Chase Mortgage1343 Crossfield Bank of America 1010 Crossfield Citi Mortgage 1630 Hoveden Bank of America20322 Kingsland Wells Fargo

We have seen an increase of late. Many of the new ones have been long time past due with NCCIA and obviously their mortgage hold-ers. Right now mortgage companies are behind in the foreclosure process, so we may continue to see an increase for a few months. The good news is that these typically are selling very quickly.

Please be mindful of these vacant homes and try to assist in keep-ing them looking decent from the street if at all possible. If any homeowner is aware of an abandoned home that is not on this list, please contact the Board and we will check into it. Occasion-ally homeowners will leave a home in anticipation of foreclosure.

How to address tHe Board directlyThe monthly meetings of the Board of Directors are held on the sec-ond Thursday, at 6:30 PM at the Mason Creek Community Center Houghton Room. The facility is located at the corner of Houghton and Kingsland. All members are welcome to attend the meetings. However, due to time constraints, we cannot allow audience members to speak at the meeting unless they contact us ahead of time and get put on the agenda. As much as I dislike telling that to someone who has taken the time out of his or her schedule to come to the meeting with a concern, I must respect the time of the volunteers on the Board as well. To get on the agenda, simply call SCS Management Services, Inc. at 281-463-1777, ext., 7132. Of course, you may also feel free to put your concerns in writing to any other Board member or me, via e-mail (our addresses are on the website at nottinghamcountry.org). Additionally, our snail mail address is:

Nccia weBsite report - aUGUst 2012Thanks to all of you who visited www.nottinghamcounty.org in the past month.

When you read this, you may remember that the website was very erratic during the month of July. We were in the process of updating and changing servers to give Nottingham Residents a “New Look” and new features.

There will be a new “Lost Pets” page where residents can upload their own descriptions and photos. Hopefully, this will shorten the time from when the pet is lost, to his or her photo being posted on the website.

This will be just one of several new features. We just ask that the Residents of Nottingham be patient with us as we make these changes without disrupting the site too much. I’m sure they will. The residents of Nottingham Country are great!!

If you haven’t visited our website, please go to: http://nottingham-country.org and sign-up to get emails (E-Blasts) about Community vents, Lost Pets and Security Issues. There’s a new log-in feature where residents sign up and become “members” on the website.

As always, if you would like to offer your comments or sugges-tions, please email the webmaster directly by sending an email to: [email protected].

The latest happenings in Nottingham Country are posted on the Website first. Items like Heavy Trash Pickup dates, Election Results, Lost Pets and Safety/Security Incidents in our neighborhood are posted on the site. We also have applications and forms posted on the website

2012-2013 CRITERIA FOR FREE AND REDUCED PRICE MEALS

Katy Independent School District announced its policy for providing free and reduced price meals for children eligible under the fed-eral income guidelines for the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Program. Go to www.squaremeals.com to view a copy of the policy.

Children living in households whose income are at or below the federally approved levels, based on household size, may be eligible for free or reduced price meals. Transfer students approved for the program from another school district may either complete a Katy ISD application or provide documentation of their eligibility status. Foster children who are the legal responsibility of a welfare agency or court may also be eligible for benefits regardless of the income of the household with whom they reside.

The Nutrition and Food Service Department encourages parents in all eligible households to complete an online application prior to the start of school. Visit the district website (www.katyisd.org) for the online application.

A Free and Reduced meal application form and an information letter will also be distributed in the student’s first day packet. A paper application will not need to be completed if you submitted

DECIBELLES (A BArBErShop ChoruS)We are a ladies daytime chorus with approximately 30 members. We have been performing in the Houston area for over 30 years. We sing old favorites and contemporary tunes arranged in the barber-shop style. The four parts creating the barbershop sound are Tenor, Lead, Baritone and Bass.

We rehearse Friday mornings from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Treemont Retirement Center located at 2501 Westerland, off Wes-theimer and Gessner. We love to have visitors and even more when you decide to join our chorus.

For additional information, please call Pat at 281-497-4904 or [email protected] (email).

We perform two types of shows each year. Currently we are singing a selection of patriotic songs, Johnny Mathis’ “Chances Are,” Perry Como’s “Hot Diggity Dog” and other fun tunes. You’ll be singing along with us before you know it.

Our Christmas show includes old favorites, but also includes new fun tunes with props, narratives and choreography. We’ll begin prepar-ing that program in October and book performances for the first two weeks in December. Come visit any Friday and see how much fun you can have with us.

KIMBeRLY AKIMBO, By David Lindsay-Abaire, Directed by Ron Jones, November 29-December 15, 2012, STUDIO 101 (1824 Spring Street, Houston 77007).Kimberly Akimbo is a play written in 2000 by Pulitzer prize-winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire. Its title character is a lonely teen-age girl suffering from a disease a lot like progeria, that causes her to age 4 and a half times as fast as normal. Thus, Kimberly is trapped inside the frail physical body of an elderly woman. She meets another misfit (a teenage boy) and the two form an attachment to one another that borders on attraction. The situation is not helped by Kimberly’s rapidly deteriorating health. Soon Kimberly’s family gets mixed up in some crazy money schemes and the family gets emotionally destroyed.

LOST YOUR PET?HARRIS COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROL

The Harris County Animal Control posts photos of all animals found on their website and updates it twice daily. If you have lost your pet, please check this website. www.countypets.com.

LEASH LAWAnimals that are not properly restrained pose a threat to all our resi-dents. While you may know your pet is friendly, an animal running at someone who is walking by is very scary for that person. Many children are afraid of animals and become frightened, which could result in the child getting hurt trying to avoid the animal.

Veterinary Public Health (formerly called Harris County Animal Con-trol) advises that “All dogs and cats must be kept under restraint while in the unincorporated areas of Harris County, Texas. The custodian of a dog or cat is not authorized to have, harbor or keep any unli-censed dog or cat, nor to allow any dog or cat to become a stray.”

Restraint is defined as “the control of a dog or cat under the fol-lowing circumstances:1. When it is controlled by a line or leash not more than six (6) feet in length, if the line or leash is held by a human being, who is capable of controlling or governing the dog or cat in question 2. When it is within a fully enclosed vehicle3. When it is on the premise of the custodian and the animal does not have access to sidewalk or street.”

While it may be nice to have your animal out in the yard while you work or play, it is against the law, unless the animal is properly restrained.

Let’s all help keep our community a safe and comfortable place for all our residents by being responsible pet owners. This will not only protect anyone who may be walking or bicycling in the area, but also the pet owner who could be held legally responsible or possibly sued for failing to properly restrain their pet.

Congregation or amigreat Comedy Night

ross BeNNettAs comedian Allan Sherman once said, “you don’t have to be Jewish”…… to perform comedy at Congregation Or Ami, West Houston’s only conservative Synagogue, but you do have to be funny. On Saturday, October 13th, nationally renowned come-dian Ross Bennett, will perform his unique brand of very funny stand-up comedy at the Synagogue, in an authentic comedy club setting, at 8:30 PM. Bennett, a one time West Point Cadet who left the Academy to become a Comedian (“probably the greatest service I will ever do for my country”), has been performing comedy for over 30 years. Over the years, Ross Bennett has appeared at the Friar’s Club and on many TV programs including “Evening at the Im-prov.” Bennett also co-wrote and stars in the very funny play, PASTRAMI ON RYE WITH MAYO, about the last 4 comedians performing in the Catskills.

The October 13th performance is open to the entire West Houston / Katy community. Please purchase your tickets early, as seating is limited. Congregation Or Ami is located at 3443 Wilcrest Drive Houston, TX 77042. Tickets, which are $36 each, include a wonderful selection of desserts, wine, soda and coffee. Premium seating and group tables are available. For additional information, please check online at www.oramihouston.org or call 713-334-4300.
