Winners of the greatest distance traveled were Joannie Machen, all the way from Machipongo, VA, and Maureen Mulligan from way up north in New Jersey. Special mention goes to those who came from the Maryland shores, Laurie, Margaret Ann and Dee Green, and to Maribeth and Cookie who braved the challenging Baltimore/Washington traffic to be with us. We had a surprise visit from Sister Patricia McCarron who spoke to us about the impressive programs at NDP as well as accomplishments of former and current students. At the same time, Jane Kroh Satterfield invited us to participate in a Class of ’60 scholarship for a needy student. I mention this partially to remind any of us who are still interested in being a part of that to refer back to Jane’s email that I forwarded to you on 11-19-2016 or to contact NDP’s Advancement Office. I know we are all grateful that Sue Jervis came to that May luncheon. We all thought she was in great spirits, but only a few weeks later, she lost her long battle with cancer, making this last visit with her a real treasure. In the fall, 10 of us made it to the Foundation Day Liturgy and Brunch at the Prep School. I encourage any of you who have not attended that event to come sometime. We always stay later than any other class, and no one has attempted to throw us out yet! BTW, Molly was unable to attend then as she and Bill were celebrating their 50th anniversary. Moving right along to “Travel and Leisure,” Mac could not join us in May as she and Gene were on a fabulous trip, first, a Viking Cruise—Paris to Normandy—and right on the heels of that another great cruise on the Norwegian line, Hurtigruten, to Scandinavia. Quite a traveling year for Mac. In August, she and Gene were headed down south and stopped at Clayton, NC, to visit with Kristin and Norwood: “great hosts,” is her report. In July, Joannie Machen went to Quebec with her three daughters to celebrate Jill’s 50th birthday. (How could this happen? Some of have children that age!) Pat Scally and Earl traveled to Cornwall in September. As an early Christmas gift, Judy Schmitz and Emory took their family on a vacation on the Western Caribbean Disney Cruise. Then there’s Carolyn Finnerty. In May, she and Ray went to Elba, flying into Berlin, moving on to Potsdam, Dresden, Prague, Krakow, and Amsterdam. In September, she and Ray went to Malta, Sorrento, and Sicily. What next? Marg Lyons became a first time grandmother in May when her son, Jeff and wife Jennifer brought little Silas Jaxon into the world. (Joanna, your position is still safe!) As mentioned above, our sad news this time is the loss of our dear classmate, Sue Jervis on June 18. It is very heart-warming to know that Phoebe spoke of her long- time friendship with Sue at her funeral. The other classmate that we have lost is Sheila Flanigan who died on August 22nd. Sheila graduated from Loyola College with a degree in clinical psychology, then went to University of Baltimore to study criminal justice, and ultimately earned an MBA at Loyola College. Sheila was a long time resident of Taneytown, MD, and had retired from the Department of Parole and Probation. I ran into Sharon Troja Derr at the Baltimore County Public Library – Towson a few months ago! She introduced me to her darling five-year-old grandson, Bobby Zissel, who is quite a devotee of the library. Sharon told me that she is finishing her fifth year on the School Board of Immaculate Conception School. We know that Sharon certainly kept them on the right track!

After a long and very courageous battle with cancer, Ann McKew Kolb passed away on July 25. Our thoughts and prayers go to her husband, Tom, and her entire family. May her dear soul rest in peace. My friends, we have now lost eight members of our class. We are certainly getting older but, nevertheless, each death brings a void and a great sadness. It makes us cherish each other even more.

On a happy note, our best wishes go to Pat Hoy Albert Evans, who married John Evans on December 10! May they enjoy a very, very happy life together.Colleagues and friends feted Martha Delea as she bid farewell to the Office of Attorney General, Department of General Services on February 1! Martha assures all that she has “great plans” for her retirement.

How happy Mary Lou McQuaid Bedford and Trisha Mullan Kammer were to catch a glimpse of Joyce Kunkel Beck on her whirlwind (one day) trip to Baltimore this summer! Joyce and family live in Alameda, CA.

Speaking of Mary Lou Bedford, she and Teddy moved to Florida on February 16! How sorry we were to lose such a warm and bubbly friend. However, we can contact her at: 41 Caribe Way, Vero Beach, FL, 32963.

Roseanne Fiorucci-Clarke shared, “My Mother Emily Fiorucci passed with Parkinson’s Disease and dementia and congestive heart failure on July 22, 2016. My husband passed on the same day two years ago due to a tragic tractor-trailer accident.”

My colleagues, don’t be shy! We would ALL love to hear your news! I am only a phone call, a postage stamp or an email away---Remember, our 55th Reunion isn’t that far away either!

The Class of 1964 stays in touch and gets together regularly. Our next event will take place this summer — more to come as the year progresses. Reach out to Sallie Mullen at [email protected] if you wish to be involved.

Meanwhile, congratulations to Bill and Louise Miller on their move to Richmond, where they will be close to their children. They’re hanging out on Cape Cod for now until their new home is completed this spring. Janie Ebaugh and I had coffee on Christmas Eve. May 2017 bring peace, good health and a sprinkle of fun and frolic to us all! We have some news to share! Millie Hooper

LaFontaine says that “Lots of big changes in 2016 for me and my family! After 35 years of practice as a neurologist, I am retiring at the end of December. I timed it to coincide with the introduction of a new electronic medical record at my hospital, one that promises to be even more of a time sink than our current one (which already requires me to spend an additional 15-30 minutes for each hour I spend face-to-face with my patients). The privilege of caring for patients over the years has been phenomenal, but for the rest of it, no thank you! All three of my sons are now married, two of them tying the knot this past year, in joyful celebrations. And our oldest son and his wife have informed us we will be grandparents (yay) this coming May! I’m only a tiny bit worried

that I will learn for the first time what it’s like to have enough time on my hands! Why, I may actually love it!” Phyllis Barlow Godfrey shares, “I went to Italy in September 2016. I had a seat at Mother Theresa’s canonization. Had a wonderful 10 days traveling around central Italy.” Dottie Hermann Mooney has a little bit of “news...I am downsizing and selling my home of 20 years. My son, Danny, and his family, are buying my house, and I am moving to a little house in Murray Hill. The new address is 900 Applewood Lane 21212. I hope to be in by mid-January after a kitchen renovation!” Diane Kiper Karbonik is “moving full time on January 28th to The Peninsula in Delaware. It is just West of Rehoboth. We are building a new home in this amazing community that includes a golf course, pools, spa, trails and much more on the Indian River Bay. We are looking forward to this next chapter in our lives! Looking forward to visitors! If you would like to update my info: [email protected], 33369 Marina Bay Circle, Millsboro, DE 19966.” Judy Nelson Connelly shares that “Janet, Nikki, Robin and I ate lunch in Annapolis over Christmas vacation. We try to get together a couple times a year. It’s not always easy as Robin lives on Kent Island. My son, Patrick, was married to Jenny in Napa in June. They live in San Francisco.” Dee Sherrod Evans has been “promoted to Chief Diversity Officer at Massachusetts College of Art and Design and honored by City of Cambridge for work on Human Rights Commission. Husband, David, was honored for 45 years of service in Harvard College Admissions by Harvard’s Hutchins Institute and honored with W.E.B. by Hutchins Institute. Daughter, Christine, is a Health Educator for State of Maryland and Adjunct Professor teaching Public Health at Morgan State University. Her son, Daniel, is a Corporate Communications Manager for Sony

Happy “big” birthday to all in the class of ’74 from everyone in the class, since by now we have all reached that milestone. The birthday celebrations continued since the last news from the class. My children and husband threw a lovely surprise party for me in May which included several classmates – Janice Hunt Damon, Karen Kehoe Lindenmeyer, Karen Kohlhepp Raubach and Mary Galvin O’Conor Wilson. They actually pulled it off in my house - getting all of the food, decorations and people in place while my husband and I were at Saturday evening Mass. Brienne Pratt Fiske had a 60th birthday trip to France in July which started with her youngest son Patrick’s wedding in La Fouillouse. The wedding and reception were like a fairytale held in a castle dating back to the 13th century. After the wedding, Brienne and husband Frank continued to explore the French countryside for a truly special birthday.

More weddings in 2016 and 2017. In September 2016 Karen Kehoe Lindenmeyer’s daughter Megan ’06 was married in the Loyola University Maryland chapel where her parents were married 35 years ago. The reception was in Baltimore and attended by Karen’s classmates Natalie Aiken Shields, Tracey Henson Ford,

Karen Kohlhepp Raubach, Janice Hunt Damon and Mary Galvin O’Conor Wilson. Mary Galvin’s son Billy will be married in May 2017. He was introduced to his fiancé by Collin Welsh, son of Debbie Kazmerowski Welsh. Deb’s son Collin is living with his wife and new baby daughter Collette (Coco) in Memphis, TN. Son Brooks is living in the lower east side of Manhattan and loving the New York life.

Sue Hill Gebhardt continues to inspire all of us with her training and racing. She was on Team USA in the World Triathlon Championships in Cozumel in September and finished 3rd in her age group. Over 100 countries were represented and Sue says it was an amazing experience standing on the podium draped in the American flag. In October Sue and daughter Mary Voneiff ’98 completed their first full Ironman Triathlon in North Carolina.

Nancy Balthazar Lapanne hosted a get-together of classmates at her mountain home in North Carolina in November. Mary Jo McGuire Greenawalt traveled from Philadelphia, Katy Macielag Lightburn and Martha Queral Robinson traveled from Maryland. They visited the Biltmore Estate to see the Christmas displays and just enjoyed catching up with each other. Nancy and husband Gary are traveling to South Africa in January and enjoying as much travel as possible in retirement.

Tracey Henson Ford’s daughter Molly received an advanced degree in graphic design and is working as a graphic designer for LiveIntent in Manhattan. Her son Henson is living in Baltimore and working in commercial real estate with MacKenzie Companies based in Lutherville. Tracey

and husband Tom recently bought a townhouse in Bear Trap Dunes and love getting away for long weekends in Bethany. Let her know if you are in the area!

Missy Connolly is still doing interior design through her Fern Hill Designs business but she is running it from her home instead of a retail location. Contact her at [email protected] for all of your interior design needs. She mentioned that she is also consulting to assist people in reducing their energy, cell phone and television bills as well as credit card processing for both residential and business customers. Missy’s website with information about this consulting business is missyconnolly.acndirect.comCharisse Fenari Wernecke completed her Ph.D. and is now teaching at Stevenson University’s Brown School of Business and Leadership. She is finding teaching both inspiring and rewarding.

Barbara Vitale Wood has taken on several hobbies and enjoying all of them. She is now making jewelry, knitting and chalk painting furniture. She also coordinates meals for Streets of Hope men’s shelter which is associated with Victory Villa Baptist Church where husband Billy is pastor. Barb and her husband are also rehabbing and selling houses and just completed their fifth one.

Margaret Case Gugerty mentioned what a fun evening she had over the Christmas holidays cooking and eating a meal at Schola in Baltimore with Janice Hunt

Damon, Sue Coliton, Jane Rowley and Sharon Curran. This group tries to get together for dinner at least once a year since a few are coming from other parts of the country. Happy and Healthy New Year to all!

Greetings to all, I hope your new year is off to a wonderful start! May your days be filled with joy in 2017. I begin with an exciting reminder that the Class of ’77 will be celebrating its 40th Reunion this fall--how is this possible? Time does truly fly! More details to follow, but we will likely participate in NDP’s October Gateway Reunion celebration and then hold an “after” party at someone’s home. If you are interested in helping or hosting, please contact me! We look forward to a stellar turnout! Now for news from our classmates:

Mary Carol Hart Tazewell writes: “Greetings from Malawi, in Southeast Africa! My husband Lit and I arrived in Lilongwe, Malawi’s capital in late 2016. This is for a new post Lit accepted with USAID (United States Agency for International Development). Malawi is a beautiful, peaceful, laidback country. We are bordered by Zambia, Tanzania and Mozambique. Our home is not ready

yet, so we are in a temporary house that has a lovely screened porch and beautiful trees in the yard. I have started a blog, if you are interested in reading about our experiences. It can be found at expatdisciple.wordpress.com. Lilongwe is no hopping metropolis but I think I am okay with that for a while!” Carey Talucci is now a grandmother! Daughter Downey and husband Tim had a baby boy named Declan in December. Tracey Seifert Kimball is working at WBAL-TV as a Production Manager. Carol Salazar Udvarhelyi writes: “2016 was a year of many exciting changes for the Udvarhelyi Family. Steve accepted a new job in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and so after 20+ years in the Philadelphia area, the family plans to move in late spring 2017. We are building a new home there and anxiously awaiting its completion. We would love to have friends visit, so let us know if you are in the area! In other news, our oldest daughter Tory was married in Philadelphia in October, and a month later, Steve and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary.” Carol shared a wedding photo, so happy to see Dr. Salazar surrounded by his beautiful family!

Kathy Stanley Wilmot’s family saw many changes in 2016. Kathy’s mom passed away peacefully in July. In August, Kathy and husband Mike’s oldest son and his wife had a baby girl, Madisyn. Then five weeks later, their youngest son and his wife had a daughter, Alexis. The Wilmots are building a vacation home in Fenwick, Delaware, and are looking forward to hosting many

family get togethers down there! Kay Carney has a new career venture: she is a Graphic Designer and Social Media Specialist for her company, Big Red Truck Digital. Christine Rogers Robinette and her husband Al are celebrating their 25th Wedding Anniversary in 2017. Emily Rodowsky Savopoulos and husband Jay took an Alaskan cruise in 2016, and at one of their ports of call, they had a lovely visit with Mary Clare Shepherd Kretzschmar!

Nancy Karpinski participated in the San Diego 3-Day Susan Komen Breast Cancer walk, trekking 60 miles to raise money for Breast Cancer research. Congrats, and well done, Karpie! Louise Perkins and her husband live in Trumbull, CT. She is still in the non-profit research-funding world. She has been Chief Science Officer at

the Melanoma Research Alliance for four years, is on the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research and of the Health Research Alliance. Though working from home, she travels frequently and those of you on Facebook know her “Views from my Room” photos. Her husband, Jeff, retired in 2016 from a career as a chemist. Kudos to Mary Gibbons Myers, who was appointed president/CEO for Johns Hopkins Home Care Group in 2016. Helen Kopits Hiser sent this update: “Our older daughter, Anna, just graduated from Towson University with a B.S. in Deaf Studies and a B.S. in English Literature. She will begin working toward her American Sign Language Interpreter Certificate. Our younger daughter, Edina, is a sophomore at the University of Southern California in the School of Dramatic Arts’ BFA in Theatre Design program. My husband, Fred, and I are involved with the St. Francis Neighborhood Center in Baltimore City, a nonprofit organization working to end generational poverty in Reservoir Hill. It’s incredibly satisfying to see the real difference the Center makes in the lives and futures of families.”

Rose Schmitz Marcin and husband Bill’s oldest son, Daniel, got married in May 2016 in Michigan. Their son, John, his wife and daughter have moved back to Maryland from China, and Rose is thrilled to have them close by again. Congratulations to Sister Catherine (Missy) Gugerty, who was awarded the John Cardinal Newman medal from Loyola University Maryland at the Commencement exercises in May 2016.

The medal, which was established in 2002, is given to recognize individuals whose intellectual attainments, contributions to education, and steadfast commitment to the ideals of scholarship and service distinguish them as exemplars of Loyola’s Jesuit tradition.

We extend our deepest sympathies to our classmates on their losses of loved ones:

Happy New Year! Since we last chatted, my son Tyler has turned 18 and finished his first semester at Elon. He’s loving it there, and is heading back to North Carolina after a nice Christmas here for his “J” term and Spring term, and to pledge a fraternity. Chris and I are adjusting to empty nest living in Manhattan. Sure, there’s less laundry, less worry about dinners with all

the food groups, less half-empty glasses around the house. But I miss my one and only. I have been coordinating events (in my 23rd year of doing so!) and fostering dogs (2016 brought six adorable nuggets to our home for a temporary stay and permanent memories, including taking Norbert and Nadine to the “Watch What Happens Live” and “TODAY” show studios for some fun on-air time. With young male models. Who didn’t wear shirts.), and my dad hasn’t been doing well. So a dozen trips to Baltimore since July have helped fill the void as well. Our dog Augie (now two) also helps me miss Tyler a bit less. And staying in touch with friends via Facebook, text and email also help.

We all had fun at our 35th reunion. On Friday, October 21st, Jill Guidera Packo hosted 18 members of the Class of Pink and Blue at the Greene Turtle Towson, in the recently renovated Turtle Shell. Live music, the coolest tables (literally- there was a trough of ice in the middle), great food (sorry I ate all of the crab dip, Jill) and lively conversations made for a perfect kick-start to our weekend. It was great to see Lisa Lewandowski Verger, whose Facebook posts and commentary at the event had everyone laughing. Allison Burger came from Chilmark, MA (where she is co-owner of Chilmark Chocolates http://mvmagazine.com/news/2012/09/01/how-it-works-teamwork-approach-chilmark-chocolates ), Angela Fava Class, our Queen Banana, looked fab. Carolyn Clarke Gartner stayed with me at my dad’s house, as her family is all in Virginia now. Cristina Rosell Chakales dropped by the Turtle for a few laughs as well. Joan Sweeney (still rocking it at Sudina Search) and Kathy Michaud Garliss also posed for the group picture. Kellie McNamara Cannon brought high school sweetheart and husband Rob, and showed pictures of her new grandchild, and a wonderful shot of Kellie with both babies on her lap on a big slide! Lisa Rallo Szumla also made it to Towson from Sykesville, as did Maria Federico Calder from Jarrettsville. Mary Beth Regan Somerville, Pebbles Buchanan Englehart and Mary Carroll Alderman were also in attendance, looking terrific as well. Susan Valis Faber brought her unique brand of sunshine to the event.

Saturday, Nancy Hubbard Mann hosted 13 ladies for a wonderful brunch, with great food, drinks and signage! How she

was able to cook everything herself after attending the Friday night gathering at the Turtle was impressive!! Her home in Sparks is perfect for entertaining; even Augie was welcome. He and her two pups had plenty of back yard for running, and the human attendees, including Kathy Matter Anger, Sally Costello Rogers and Heather Parks Ryan, were well taken care of as well! Kelly Doyle Oakes, made the trip from Charlottesville and shared stories of her new art ventures. http://www.kellyoakesart.com/

That evening, we had 24 attendees at the Milestone Reunion at the school. Angela Krieger Shannon, Janet Stadter Tomasic, Sharon Lanzi Bateman, Susan Hunt Dempsey, Michaela Quinn Kammer and Cathy Fath joined us, as did Cathy Flattery Favo, who took a break from visiting her mom in hospice to be among friends. Marty Wright Kelly traveled from PA to join. Ginna Krebs Alderman also attended, giving us some insider knowledge to her workplace! The slide show was a hoot (at least, we made it so every time someone from our class was projected on the walls, in various stages of 80’s hair!) and the after-party in the library was a good primer to the after-party at Cristina’s house! (I wore my white dance dress, which was hanging in the library with other memorabilia. Everyone was surprised a) that it still fit and b) that we ever voted on it in the first place!) Marion Knott, looking better than ever, also attended the reunion and after-party. Speaking of the after-party, Cristina and Pete were marvelous hosts, playing some terrific flashback music and opening up their beautiful home (and bar!) to us, including my husband Chris, and Susan’s husband Barry Faber. What a great time!

The next morning, Cristina and I joined Susan Valis Faber at her tailgate, which was decorated in pink and had food and drink (and gift bags, of course) for the runners. I can’t say I really “ran” the 5K after two nights of partying, but I did cross the finish line before a few folks!

Helen Linhard Aberle coordinated a lovely mass in the chapel on Sunday morning, and brought her beautiful daughter to help with the music and readings. Just a few showed (Cris and I in our running clothes!), but I don’t think Sister Patricia will forget about us for a

while (see Sharon Lanzi post below!)After mass, Janet, Cris, Angela and I were the lucky beneficiaries of a yoga and Reiki sequence from Carolyn Clarke Gartner, whose generosity of spirit made a huge impression on me (and my dad- she treated him to a private Reiki session as well!) Wishing her continued success with her business, Palms of Light. @palmsoflight

I hope to see more of you before the next reunion- five years is too long a wait!! And sorry for the many of you who were unable to attend this year—we truly missed you. Heather Parks Ryan delayed getting dinner for her horses so she could respond for class chatter! She writes: “It was lovely seeing you and your cute blonde boyfriend Augie at the reunion brunch! Nothing that interesting has occurred. Betty O shipped into our barn after weaning Malcolm in October, so now she lives at home until her next planned pregnancy with a different man. Malcolm is 9 months old and going through a bit of an ugly stage...so no pics! Hah! Last Friday, Tim and I had a lovely time out for once, with Nancy Hubbard Mann and her husband John. I forgot to take a pic though, and no, I do not drink! So, nothing really earth shattering, but I didn’t want to delay! So now off to finish horse dinners!Merry, Merry Christmas to all of our classmates!”

Sharon Lanzi Bateman had the best time at the Class Reunion but wishes more of the class were there! She writes: “I don’t think I’ll ever volunteer to read at a Mass again—some things never change—overcome by Church giggles!! Great to be back at NDP—Jill graduated from there two years ago and is at St Joseph’s University and our son, Paul, a senior at Calvert Hall, played in his final (high school) football game at Ravens Stadium!”

Carolyn Clarke Gartner writes: “My family went on a special vacation on the Chesapeake Bay remembering my father, who passed away February 27th… We miss him. I completed a Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant studies August 19th. I passed my recertification boards as well. I continue to work as a PA-C in Home based Primary Care for the VA. It is an honor to serve our Veterans! Our LLC business is growing! I offer Reiki sessions, meditation, and teach Yoga. In 2017 I will be a guest teacher at a local Yoga Teacher training,

Kathy Anderson Chaney posted a beautiful pic with her daughter in front

of the tree at Rockefeller Center in December.

Suzanne Macys DeSantis posted this beautiful memory on 12/20: “I remember this morning, 16 years ago, like it was yesterday. It was one of the most exciting and frightening days of my life. I didn’t know what we were going to face, all I knew is that we would do it together. God, in his infinite wisdom, blessed me with three healthy babies that day and our crazy ride began. Here we all are 16 years later. Peter, John and Lily...I couldn’t be more proud of the people you have become and I can’t wait to see what the next 16 years bring! I love each one of you with all of my heart. My wish for you can be summed up in the words of the great Bob Dylan. ‘May God Bless and keep you always. May your wishes all come true. May you always do for others and let others do for you. May you build a ladder to the stars and climb on every rung and may you stay forever young.’ Happy, Happy Birthday. They are heading to the DMV today.. watch out Greenville drivers.”
