School Year 2016/2017
This is Who We Are: The Neighborhood School with a Big Heart
Message from Susan Lowe, Principal
The 2016-2017 schoolyear has proven to be one of many accom-
plishments for the teachers and students of Notre Dame de
Lourdes School. We were blessed with our second Neumann
Scholar in two years. The Neumann Scholarship Program is funded
by the Connelly Foundation. Steven Bohnenberger will attend Car-
dinal O’Hara High School with a full four year scholarship.
The students continued their successes with our First In Math on-
line competitive Math program which contends on the local, state,
and national levels. Our school finished second in the Archdiocese,
fourth in the state and eighth in the nation. Our eighth grade class
finished first in the Archdiocese and the nation. Our seventh grade
students finished second in the Archdiocese and twenty-first in the
nation. Our sixth graders finished first in the Archdiocese and thir-
teenth in the nation. Finally, our fifth graders finished first in the
Archdiocese and twenty-fifth in the nation. We are very proud of all
their efforts!
In the Delaware County Intermediate Unit STEM Design
Challenge we sent six teams with nineteen participants to the
K’NEX Competition. A team of fourth graders, team “Dominant
Masters,” was awarded ribbons in the “Most Creative-Elementary
Division” category.
We celebrated winners in both of the writing competitions we par-
ticipated in this school year. In the AMVETS Americanism Essay
Contest, Elizabeth DeSilva’s essay was sent to the state level com-
petition and Fallon Ponnwitz took second place. In the Dr. Nicho-
las Spennato Young Authors’ Project, Elizabeth DeSilva and
Katelyn Swierczek won in the Eighth Grade Division.
Our Kids for Kids In Jesus’ Name Service Club and our Stu-
dent Council members worked in service with the following or-
ganizations to raise funds and support their efforts to help those in
need. We are very proud of their giving spirit.
