The Presence of the Lord -- Part 1 Jesus said, “where two or three are gathered in my name, there I am in the midst of them.” Certainly, that is one of the deepest and most amazing revelations in all of Holy Scripture. Do we really get this? Are we understanding what this means? Jesus tells us that when we are gathered together in His name, He is there among us! That means, whenever we come together for the express purpose of setting aside all our other concerns, and for a specified period of time we devote our attention, our hearts and minds, our very souls and bodies to Jesus Christ, He is present with us. Reflect on that for a moment. It means that when we are gathered together here, at Notre Dame in Kerrville, Texas, on any Sunday morning, for the purposes of praying to the Lord Jesus Christ, of hearing His word, of singing hymns of praise to Him, of glorifying His name, of receiving His Holy Sacrament, He is here among us at that very moment. We are at that moment in the very presence of God Almighty. We gather together in His name: and He is in our midst. How do we grasp this truth? How do we apprehend the meaning of this? How do we apply this to our lives? What does one do when Jesus Himself comes to be in the midst of a gathering that includes you? Think for a moment what you would do, if, in the next moment you knew beyond the shadow of a doubt that you were indeed standing in the presence of Jesus Christ. It sounds like a fantasy, like an episode of Touched by an Angel. But just imagine it. What would you do? This is God Almighty whose presence you are now in. Would you immediately fall on your face before Him? Would He even want you to do that? Would you speak to Him? What would you say? What does one say to God when you meet Him face to face? Does He do all the talking? How would you behave around Him? This is He from whom no secrets are hid. If we suddenly found ourselves in the presence of Jesus, we wouldn’t dare do something we knew was sinful, would we? The presence of the Lord is what life is all about. He created us so that we would be in His presence and to enjoy fellowship with Him. The name Emmanuel means “God with us.” We’re supposed to be in His presence. Under our present circumstances, we cannot have an awareness of being in the presence of Christ through our five senses. Yet He is there. So how does His presence impact us if we can’t see him with our eyes, or hear him with our ears? It can’t be the case that when we are gathered together in Jesus’ name and he is present in our midst, that it’s all for nothing. His being in our midst when we gather together in His name has a purpose. There’s an old saying that you’re known by the company you keep. And I believe it’s true. This is why parents of young children are so concerned about who they pick for their friends. It’s why when you’re a teenager you’re warned about “that crowd”. When we’re growing up, it makes a difference if we spend our time with others who challenge us, who bring out our best traits and reinforce them, or if we spend our time with people who lead us into temptation. If we’re surrounded by people who expect the best from us, who encourage us to keep striving to improve, it’s going to show in our lives. And if we’re surrounded by people who don’t care what we do, or how we do, that will show in our lives as well. To be continued . . .

FIRST SATURDAY PRO-LIFE ROSARY

presented by the Knights of Columbus

Come join us on Saturday, January 4, 2020

beginning at 4:00 p.m.

at Notre Dame Catholic Church Kerrville, Texas

This beautiful and inspiring program will take place on the First Saturday of each month, to pray for the end of abortion and the culture of death, attend Confession if desired, and satisfy the request of Our Lady of Fatima to honor Her Immaculate Heart and help bring about peace in the world.

We invite you to learn about and be a part of this special devotion.

Join us before the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe as we pray and sing for the world. Offer personal intentions to Our Lady for your children and families. The 5:00 p.m. Vigil Mass will follow.

Consecration to the Holy Family All Masses of the weekend of December 28th and 29th, 2019.

When Jesus came to save mankind, He was born into a family. Even though He was truly God, He submitted Himself to the authority of His mother and His foster father, thus setting an example for all of us on how to be good children. We offer our family to Christ, and ask Him to help us to imitate the Holy Family so that, as a family, we can all enter Heaven. And we ask Mary and Joseph to pray for us.

Knights of Columbus Council 6409 in union with Notre Dame Catholic Church invite each family in the parish to consecrate themselves to the Holy Family and to devote themselves to the ideal model of familial love set by Jesus, Mary and Joseph.

Although the formal consecration will occur at all Masses of the weekend of December 28th and 29th, serious and mindful preparation for a week prior is a major aspect of this program. To ensure that all members of the parish are fully participating and readying themselves for the consecration, the Knights of Columbus and Notre Dame Catholic Church, considers the following: • Suggest that each family pray together each day for the week before the consecration. Ideally, this will lead them to continue the practice, at least on a weekly basis, after the consecration has occurred. • Encourage each family to intentionally fast from something ahead of the consecration. This fast should last a week leading up to the consecration. It is strongly encouraged to fast from something that would normally be consumed or an activity that is regularly done. Fasting helps to discipline our minds and hearts and moves us to be more focused on God. Strongly encourage each member of the parish families to go to confession before the consecration.

Following the 11 o’clock Mass on December 29th, the Knights of Columbus will be hosting a social with donuts and coffee in the social center for all parish families to celebrate the consecration together!

Please pray for those who have died, and have gone to their eternal rest with the Lord, especially for George Veselka. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.

The Pregnancy Resource Center of Kerrville, Texas – needs a new unit to replace its aging mobile ultrasound, which is worn out, and not delivering the quality graphic sonograms for the Mom to see a good clear image of her baby in her womb! This unit is placed in their Mobile Van, “Miss Kathy”, and travels the entire Hill Country area saving lives.

The Pregnancy Resource Center’s own success rate is that over 98% of their women clients who see the sonogram image of their baby in their womb will opt for LIFE for that child instead of an abortion!

The national Knights of Columbus Supreme Council has been running its ULTRASOUND INITIATIVE program since 2009 (Now at over 1000 units in all 50 States and 4 other countries!). This helps Pro-Life pregnancy care centers acquire this technology and save babies! The Pregnancy Resource Center has been approved for this project, and the Knights of Columbus, Council 6409 are asking YOUR help to raise $14,000, which will secure the K of C matching funding for the purchase of this $28,000 unit for the Pregnancy Resource Center!

and for waiting with us for Him.

We thank you for every Mass we can celebrate

together and for every confession which prepares us

to receive him with pure hearts.

May Jesus be truly born in your life. May He fill your

hearts and your homes with His light and His peace.

May God’s Star shine brightly on the sky of your life

and guide you to the place where He is waiting for you

to make your life whole.

We are happy to be with you. We thank you for every

gesture of your kindness and love.

Please, keep us in your prayers as you are in ours.

With God’s Blessing,

Father David and Father Rafael

BooksToBorrow from the Notre Dame Parish Library are available

in the narthex of the church, near the bell tower door.

During this Advent and Christmas season, the

Notre Dame Library would like to provide you with a

wonderful selection of books that hopefully will

make this Advent and Christmas more fulfilling as we await the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Most of us are racing around by concentrating on

“material things”, decorating the house, buying

Christmas gifts, making cookies, and giving our

children gifts they want in the hope of making this

Christmas the “best they’ve ever had.” We need to ask ourselves whether we have left any

room for Christ in our busy schedule to have time

for: prayer, adoration of Christ in the Blessed

Sacrament, mass, confession, or even to say the

rosary? We need to remember that our one main

goal in this earthly life is to live spirit filled lives so we can get ourselves to Heaven.

We know that one way to Jesus is through Mary.

God engaged her so intimately in the mystery of her

Son’s incarnation and of our redemption that we

must always gaze on her in the light of divine revelation. In God’s sight Mary can only be that one

person in salvation history uniquely called to be the

mother of the Father’s only begotten Son, and also

uniquely redeemed by the forseen merits of her Son.

The liturgical year begins with Advent, the time of

waiting for the savior to be born to a humble young Jewish girl. During this season we celebrate the

Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary

on December 8 and on December 12 the feast of

Our Lady of Guadalupe. Then comes Christmas

with the mystery of the Nativity of the Lord, January 1 the Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the

Mother of God, December 29 the feast of the Holy

Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph and January 5

the Epiphany of the Lord.

We at the Notre Dame Parish Library wish for you

and your family a blessed and Merry Christmas.

RCIA REFLECTIONS (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults)

WHY DOES THE RCIA LEAVE DURING THE 11:00 SUNDAY MASS?

The Catechumens and Candidates were accepted into the Church in

November, but have not received their Sacraments of Initiation. Since they

cannot yet partake of the Eucharist, they are “dismissed” by Father after the

Homily and a special blessing. They go to the Fireplace room to further

study the Gospel proclaimed at Mass. They will be dismissed until Easter

when they will joyfully join us at the table of the Eucharist. We ask that you

pray for them at each dismissal and that you know their hunger to come to

the Lord ’s Table with the entire community.
