Funding to the community colleges is also transforming from an enrollment based system to system based on outcomes. Dr. King wants to work with local K-12 schools to make more students ready for college. Dr. King’s approach is to treat the students like family. His goal is for all to succeed. DARK Notice: President Mike Campbell has cancelled this Friday’s meeting (September 20th). A number of our members have signed up for Our Lady of Grace Golf Tournament and will be unable to attend. You are encouraged to sign up to play golf and/or attend the dinner. The two West Sacramento Rotary Clubs are sponsoring a hole in support of the school. September is New Generations Month!

VOCATIONAL CORNER

By Drew Gidlof, Vocational Service

Andy Wallace has been a member of the

Mighty Rotary Club of West Sacramento since

1995. He is currently co-owner of Wallace-

Kuhl & Associates, a geotechnical engineering

and environmental consulting firm

headquartered in West Sacramento with a

satellite office in Stockton. Andy graduated

from Chico State with a business and health care management

degree. After 5 years of running convalescent hospitals and a few

years in the Bay Area as VP of Operations for a health &

nutrition company, he joined his now retired father at Wallace-

Kuhl where he currently functions as the corporation’s Chief

Financial and Chief Operating Officer. The key role of the CFO/

COO is to maintain the Shrine of the Company’s Retired

Founder and keep the chemicals in the Company Founder’s Hot

Tub balanced in case the founder comes by for an unscheduled

visit.

Also, in 2009, in the middle of the worst recession since the Great

Depression, Andy started a winery with a few partners including

fellow Rotarian Don Clark. The stated mission of their winery is

to produce the finest wines possible, for consumption by the now

retired founders of their respective companies. Like Andy, Don

is also in charge of maintaining the Founder’s Shrine and Hot

Tub at his company.

Future Rotarian:

Jessica Ngo

Jessica is an incoming junior and has been

in Interact since her freshman year. She

was super shy when she joined, but many

of the interact members were very friendly

and Jessica ended up chairing the Tuxes

and Tennies event. It was her very first

event as a chair and it taught her to be

more responsible and also helped her

improve her communication skills with others. In

Jessica’s sophomore year, she became a board member

and a shadow for Vice President, Denise Au. This year,

Jessica will be Vice President of the club, along with

Aaron Saelee. Interact is an amazing club that taught

Jessica to not be afraid in taking on leadership roles and

to slowly come out of her shyness. Jessica feels that she is

making a difference in Interact because of all the lessons

she has learned from the club. Jessica will always try her

best to apply these lessons back to help the club be

successful. Jessica is looking forward to enjoying the

remaining years she has left with the club, giving back to

the community, and making her mark in the world.
