P.244 The Juliana Library Company in LancasterISAAC WHITELOCK was a Quaker. He was born on Nov.12,1712 and he appears to havecome to Lancaster between 1743 and 1745. In 1757, he owned a lot on the southwestcormer of Orange and Duke Streets, running southward to Grant Street, and containing onOrange Street 64 feet 4 tinches, and in depth by Duke Street 252 feet. He also ow'ned atleast two other lots situated on the north side of Orange Street, and in addition a lot onSouth Price Street, on which he bui It a brewery and a tannery. The latter is where theStevens House now stands. He was Chief Burgess of the Borough in 1752, and AssistantBurgess in 1759 and 1760 and in 1765 and 1766. He also served as Treasurer of theBorough. He was one of the original members of the UnionFire Company, and when in 1754 the Quakers bui It their meeting house in Lancaster he

P.14 #86 Lieut-General JOHN WHITELOCKE, born in 1757, entered the army in 1778 andin 1782 came to Jamaica with his regiment. Here he married a sister of Matthew Lewisdeputy Secretary of War, and Aunt of "Mark" Lewis. In 1791 he became lieutenant-coloneland played an important part in the attempt to occupy San Domingo. In 1795 he becamecolonel of the 6th West India regiment. In 1808 he was cashiered for his failure at BuenosAyres the previous year.

A few yearslater, when that firm dissolved, he became a partner with Augustus Whitlock under the firmname of Augustus Whitlock & Co., and in later years conducted the business under his
