INTRODUCTION TO RESEARCH
4
What is research?
The process of finding solutions to a problem after a thorough study & analysis of the situational factors.
5
Can be described as a systematic & organized effort to investigate a
specific problem that needs a solution.
6
It is a series of steps designed & followed with the goal of finding answers to the issues that are of
concern to us in the work environment.
7
8
It involves a series of well-thought-out & carefully executed
activities that will enable us to know how the problems can be solved or at least minimized.
Diligent & systematic inquiry / investigation into a subject in order
to discover facts/principles.
9
To discover truth.
10
11
When you need to conduct a research?

15
How to conduct research?
Quantitative & Qualitative.
16
What Is Quantitative?
Quantitative research is the systematic scientific
investigation of properties.
17
Is widely used in both the natural sciences & social sciences, from physics &
biology to sociology & journalism.
18
19
The objective of quantitative research is to
develop & employ mathematical models, theories & hypotheses pertaining to natural
phenomena.
20
The process of measurement is central to quantitative
research because it provides the fundamental connection
between empirical observation & mathematical expression of quantitative
relationships.
21
Examples of The Quantitative Questions
1. Do boys & girls differ on their studio grades?
2. Do fathers with university education have kids who do better on math achievement?
3. Are there differences between national & international students on the studio achievement?
4. Is there a significant association between gender & studio grades in HBP?

Established knowledge.
What differentiate a Malaysian Public University &
Private University at the moment?Research.
What are the factors that differentiate
Between universities?Research.
24
25
What is a Types of Research?
To solve a currently existing problem in the work setting &
applying the results of its findings to solving specific problems.
Example: Students are chatting with a Facebook during a lecture.
26
To improve our understanding of certain problems that commonly occur in several organizations & industry & how to solve
them.
Example: What contributes to the higher organization’s performance?.
27
To generate more knowledge & understand the phenomena that
occur.
28
To build theories based on the research result.
29
Research = process of finding solutions. Definition of Quantitative = systematic
scientific investigation of properties. 8 Structure of Quantitative & 9 Qualitative
Proposal. The Importance of Research = evolving
knowledge. 2 Types of Research.
