1 INTRODUCTION
Diesel Shed Gonda was established in year 1982 with a small holding of 22
WDM1 locomotives. In the past 31 years, it has witnessed many technological
changes and has emerged one of the major diesel shed for maintenance of BG
locomotives. Gonda shed has distinction of maintaining wide range of rolling stocks
starting from WDM1 locomotives, YDM4 locomotives, shunting locomotives,
AC/DC WDM2 locomotives, WDM2 -2600 HP, WDM3A-3100 HP locomotives and
latest WDM3D3300 HP locomotives and high adhesion WDG3A locomotive. As on
date, Diesel shed is homing 160 BG locomotives against the berthing capacity of
130 locos. Diesel shed is also extending technical assistance to Chhapra Satellite
Shed.
Diesel shed gonda is also maintaining the 140 Ton crane stabled at GKP.

6 Innovations / System Improvement SFC Recorder - Computerised SFC recorder is a important instrument for
measuring the SFC of
locomotives. SFC is a
Important factor for
calculating the performance of
the locomotive which is based
on temp., correction factor
with altitude and following
parameter such as TG Voltage
& current and Engine shaft
horse power. During water
load box of the locomotive the
SFC is calculated
automatically by this
instrument. Before installation of this instrument it was calculated manually.
Micro Controller Based Governor Test Stand :- MCBG is used to
control the RPM of DSL
Engine of DSL electric
locomotive. Actuator unit is a
part of MCBG which is fitted
on engine block in R/S.
Which control the engine
RPM according to LOP, FOP
& BAP. To check the
working this governor test
stand is developed in DSL
shed with limited resources.
Following main operations of the MCBG is checked on this test stand.
Dry run testing with the help of dry run push button of control unit and
to check the fuel rack movement in confugration mode as per
requirment with changing of perameters.
Checking of auto callibration of actuar unit as per configration.
BOGIE FRAME MANIPULATOR – Previously Bogie frame and liner
welding work required for bogie
maintenance of Diesel electric loco
was being done by overhead
welding. This method was labour
intensive and time consuming and it
also affects the quality of bogie
frame welding. By using shed’s
internal resources, Bogie frame
manipulator has been prepared. By
using this bogie maintenance work
is being done with esser
effort, in less time and with improved quality.
Traction Alternator & Aux. Gen. Mech. Gear Hydraulic Puller :- Previously gear of T/A & Aux. Mech. was removed by locally heating the gear &
with the help of locally made tool; in which more time and man power were wasted.
Now Hydraulic puller is used for removing the above gears to save the man power &
time.

Gauge Comprator Unit – There was no any arrangement in Diesel Shed Gonda to
check the accuracy/calibration of Anolog
gauge. Due to improper calibration of
gauge so many disputes occurred in loco
during operation.
To avoid these troubles one gauge
comprator unit has been developed in
Diesel Shed Gonda with its own limited
resources. After developing of this unit
all gauges of loco are being successfully
calibrated.
Shock Pulse Meter – There was no any arrangement available in Diesel Shed
Gonda for checking of any internal defect
of CE & PE roller bearings of T/M during
overhauling of the assembly. A shock
pulse meter is commissioned and is being
used for checking of health of roller
bearings of T/M and giving positive
result.
Radiator inside Cleaning Plant – For cleaning of radiator tubes in position on
the loco, a portable cleaning plant has been
developed in Diesel Shed Gonda with its
own limited resources. For this a tank is used
which contains the cleaning solvent. With
the help of a three phase motor and positive
displacement pump, the cleaning solvent is
circulated through radiator tubes without
removal of the radiator from loco. By using
of this plant efficiency of the radiators can
be increased along with saving of time &
man power and also reduces the hot engine
troubles during summer.
Out Board Housing Bush Puller :- As per RDSO instruction bulletin an out
board housing bush extractor (puller) has
been developed in DSL Shed Gonda with
its own limited resources. By using this
gadget out board housing bush is being
easily changed in position with less man
power and in very short time period.
Previously for changing of out board
housing bush, loco hood, T/A etc were
taken out which consumed more man
power and time, which badly affected the
ineffective hours of the shed.
