President’s Corner

Happy New Year! 2011 will be a great year for our chapter. We will continue to advocate on behalf of the communities in our service area and each committee has wonderful plans going forward.

As we make resolutions for the new year to either to lose weight; be more organized; find new job; or begin new relationships; one thing is constant – the members of the Northwest Georgia Chapter will continue our vow of sisterhood.

We are a wonderful group of women, and I know that the best is yet to come.

Committee of the Quarter: Fundraising Committee

On December 4, 2011, the Fundraising committee, chaired by Conni Pritchett, held the chapter’s 2nd Annual Our Favorite Things. The event was hosted by WSB-TV anchor Erin Coleman. Guests who attended the event were entertained by live music, sample dfood, and viewed products provided by companies that the members listed as their favorites in Atlanta.

A portion of the proceeds went to the chapter’s mentoring program, “High School to High Heels”, for young girls transitioning from middle school to high school or from

high school to graduation.

Erin Coleman(hostess)This quarter, the fundraising committee has earned the title “Committee of the Quarter”. The

hard work the members of the committee put into to making this event successful is commendable. Conni Pritchett and President Martin were interviewed on CBS in Atlanta to discuss the event and the chapter’s goals and objectives.

3rd Annual Health Fair and Wellness Expo on Sunday held February 6, 2011.

In concert with the organization’s national initiatives related to HIV/AIDS prevention, the health fair is just one of several events that the Northwest Georgia Chapter will sponsor under its umbrella P.O.W.E.R. (Preparing Our Women to Engage Responsibly) Program—the main goal of which is to disseminate HIV/AIDS education and prevention information to minority women.

In addition to free HIV testing provided by event partner AID Atlanta, attendees had the opportunity to receive additional free health screenings and educational materials from 20 event partners including: the Northside Hospital Cancer Prevention Program (partner), the Georgia Ovarian Cancer Alliance (partner), the Atlanta Chapter of the National Black Nurses Association, Face Bling, Dirty Beauty, Creekside Dental (partner), and the Children's Healthcare of

Atlanta. Also present was, former Guinness Book of World Records holder Chris Jones, owner of March Aerobics, who provided an interactive fitness demonstration. Miss Teen Black International, Esonia Webb, gave a passionate speech related to her platform of healthy lifestyles for youth. Event sponsors included the South Cobb Recreation Center and Justin Parr of Juscott Media.

The Branding of NWGA Chapter

What’s your 30 second elevator speech?

An elevator speech is an attention grabbing, clear, and quick message that can be delivered in the time it takes someone to ride from the top to the bottom of a building in an elevator. As it relates to the NWGA chapter, our elevator speech should communicate who we are, what we do, and how we can benefit a company or organization. It should be a progressive, forward thinking statement about what we bring to the table. It is a speech that all members should give when describing our chapter to members of the community and potential sponsors.

To that end, the Publicity Committee poses the question: What should be the 30 second elevator speech for NWGA?

Remember, you only have 30 seconds! Send your suggestions to [email protected] before the next meeting .
