In celebration of the Chinese “Year of the Dragon,” and in collaboration with the Bennington Arts Guild and the Better Bennington Corporation, the Bennington Museum will feature the metal- work sculpture “Dragon, hatched” in the courtyard through October. Created by Peter Krusch of Cambridge, Vermont, each indi- vidual scale on “Dragon, hatched” is hand-cut, brazed to a steel armature, and then pati- nated. Krusch is a blacksmith and sculptor whose work ranges from traditional ironwork to imaginative fountains, weather vanes and sculptures. In addition to the drag- on at the museum, guild artists of the Bennington Arts Guild and other art- ists throughout Bennington and sur- rounding communities are designing and creat- ing dragon creations for installation throughout the town. New dragons will be featured through- out Bennington during the Chinese Year of the Dragon, which ends on February 9, 2013. shop “Ideas for Painting Water”

with artist Andrew Orr on

Madeira Studios.

In this one-day oil painting

workshop, popular local artist

Andrew Orr will present ideas

and techniques for painting water as part of the landscape. There

will be an opportunity for students to work in several exercises that

will put into practice the theories expressed in the demonstrations.

Orr combines realism and touches of impressionism to create

paintings that reflect his love of nature and beauty. His work has

been shown in galleries throughout the United States, and he has

won many awards including the Barbara Carter Award for

Excellence from the Oil Painters of America.

Department has received a $1,000

breakfast sponsorship from

Dave Lawrence, Rising Sun’s

president, said the grant was

given in gratitude for the fire

nity, particularly in the after-

math of Hurricane Irene.

In accepting the contribu-

tions, Fire Chief “Grub” Phil

Bourn said that the funds will

help replenish the department’s

resources. “Higher than antici-

pated demands for services and

specialized equipment to deal

with emergency situations have

depleted our funds,” said Bourne.
