When was the last time you
saw a dragon? In celebration of
the Chinese “Year of the
Dragon,” and in collaboration
with the Bennington Arts Guild
and the Better Bennington
Corporation, the Bennington
Museum will feature the metal-
work sculpture “Dragon,
hatched” in the courtyard
through October.
Created by Peter Krusch of
Cambridge, Vermont, each indi-
vidual scale on “Dragon,
hatched” is hand-cut, brazed to a
steel armature, and then pati-
nated. Krusch is a blacksmith
and sculptor whose work ranges
from traditional ironwork to
imaginative fountains, weather
vanes and sculptures.
In addition to the drag-
on at the museum, guild
artists of the Bennington
Arts Guild and other art-
ists throughout
Bennington and sur-
rounding communities
are designing and creat-
ing dragon creations for
installation throughout
the town. New dragons
will be featured through-
out Bennington during
the Chinese Year of the
Dragon, which ends on
February 9, 2013.
According to Chinese
folklore, the Year of the
Dragon is marked by
excitement, exhilaration
and intensity.
The Bennington
Museum is located at 75
Main Street in
Bennington. For more
information, call (802)
447-1571 or visit www.ben-
ningtonmuseum.org.
