SPWIISH BIBLE CAMPS AT CEDARS ..IHRSE
BAPTISMS
The second
week of July
was Spanish Touth Omp
at Cedars with
about 125 young people
from
a doaen or more villages. Adiolts came in for the evening services bidnging kttend-
ance up to
around
150 in the evenings.
The
Northrups rejoiced in that both camps were
planned, directed and taught by the Mexican people. Jim Claire
awakened
everyone by
playing reveille on
his
trun^jet,.his truij? et specials
were much
nore appreciated
in
the
evening
se rv ices
Tile
fourth
week of July was SPANISH FAI^HLY
CAl IP
Cancers ranged from grandparents to
nursing babies, : .9 Summer Corpsmen got a real workout in this
camp
since we really had
about
three camps in one. Both caries now have their own administration and are
making
plans to con^letely finance both camps next year. To some this
may
look
like
a l i t t le
step but as
far
as
we
missionaries are concerned
i t
is
a big leap fon^ard
in
faith.

f ier itage and a wealth of rel igious and civi l archi tecture,
Saltillo
was
founded in1575 bya Portuguese captain and has
become
an important cultural
center
known as The Athens
Mexico.
Saltillo retains the atmosphere of olden days. The ai r Is
fil led with the sound of bells from
the
many charming old
churches.
One magnificent example of Colonial architecture
js
the
cathedral. Many homes have
the
patios and tall , bar-
| red windows of Spanish archi tecture. Burros sti ll carry
their
burdens to
th e market down narrow
streets. A military
band plays on Sunday and Thursday evenings In
the
main
Iplaza. Ruinsof Fort Carlota take the imaginationbackto the
glamorous French er a of Mexican history.
The Alameda with
the
city library, many old
trees
flow
er
gardens , benches , and a small lake, is a peac eful
spot
for conversation reading and reflection.
An ideal
