TRAINsThe Port of Montreal operates its own rail network of close to 100 kilometres of track along the berths and directly on the terminals. Container trains are assembled directly alongside the ships. They are then brought by Port-owned locomotives to the rail interchange zone located on the Port territory where they connect with Canadian National (CN) or Canadian Pacific (CP) locomotives. Conversely, incoming CN and CP unit trains make their way to the interchange zone where they are sorted by terminal, and rerouted by Port of Montreal locomotives.• Port rail network directly connected to

TRUCKsAll trucks serving the Port of Montreal go through a common entry portal featuring optical and video recognition units to quickly and accurately identify containers and trucks. As a major dry bulk centre, the Port of Montreal is of vital importance to industries that depend on raw materials.Iron ore, de-icing salt, various other minerals, gypsum, gravel, raw sugar and virtually any other bulk commodity are handled at the Port’s 15 berths dedicated to dry bulk in Montreal and in Contrecoeur.
The Port of Montreal’s grain elevator has a total storage capacity of 260,000 tonnes. It can load ocean-going vessels at a rate of 5,500 tonnes / hour and has a total vessel unloading capacity of 3,000 tonnes / hour, making it one of the fastest and most efficient grain elevators along the St. Lawrence River.
The Port of Montreal has a facility dedicated to the storage, cleaning, sifting, packaging and containerization of agricultural products. This facility is strategically located next to the container terminals.
Montreal is home to a major network of pipelines. The Port of Montreal has 13 berths that handle petroleum products. Several berths, other than those reserved for liquid bulk, are also equipped with pipelines for handling liquid bulk other than petroleum products, such as molasses and vegetable oil.
