Letter from the board: COVID-19 Update Due to the current COVID-19 shelter in place order, we decided to forgo the print version of our NEWCNA newsletter this quarter in order to keep our block captains safe from any possible exposure. Unfortunately, we also cancelled April Spring Fling and Quarterly meeting.

If you are reading this, we obviously have your email. If you have neighbors that you communicate with, please share this email with them. Hopefully you can convince them to share their contact info with us and/or possibly join the association. To join, visit newcna.org/join.

Stay safe!

Resources for those affected by COVID-19 Many people around the world are and will be affected by Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the coming weeks and months. During this turbulent time, it’s important to refer to and encourage people to share facts and resources. The City of Austin has established a page dedicated to the pandemic, which can be found at austintexas.gov/COVID19. The City also has a running list of community resources for those experiencing financial loss because of the Stay Home Stay Safe order.

Additionally, the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) has website is a great resource to understand the effect of the virus on the entire state. Visit dshs.state.tx.us/coronavirus to learn more or call 2-1-1.

Finally, the University of Texas has published a report indicating that if Central Texas is to manage the virus and stay within our hospital capacity, we must reduce daily contacts by 90 percent. In other words, if you encountered 10 people outside your home in a day, you need to reduce to one encounter per day, while keeping 6 feet away. Together we’ll get through this!

Visit goodapplefoods.com/covid-19 for an emergency grocery delivery service for people at-risk of severe COVID-19 infection.

Neighbors helping neighbors We’ve love seeing all great acts of kindness on the NEWCA Facebook page. Neighbors sharing food, plants, tools, and good cheer.

The Facebook page is also a great place for sharing information, asking questions, and meeting new people with similar interest or needs. Hope to see you on there soon!

Have you filed for your Homestead Exemption? If you bought your home in 2019, the filing deadline for requesting a 2020 Homestead Exemption is April 30. If you bought your home after Jan. 1, you will have to wait until 2021 to file your exemption. There is no fee to file and you do not have to hire anyone to file for you.

You may need to refile your homestead exemption if you had a name change to your deed recorded. Also, you can apply for an over 65 exemption at any time during the year (even if only one owner is over 65!).

You can search other exemptions and forms by visiting traviscad.org.

New to the Neighborhood? NEWCNA is the Northeast Walnut Creek Neighborhood Association, a 501(c) 7 organization supported by the residents of three neighborhoods: North Oaks, Four Seasons, and Hillside. Anyone can join! Annual dues are $20. That’s only $1.60 a month! The fee is used to pay for newsletters, meeting rentals, signs, picnics, beautification projects, membership stickers, and more. We hold spring and fall picnics, an annual garage sale, and yard of the month awards. We would love to have you join us!

Mail in the below form with your check or go to newcna.org/join to pay with credit card. You’ll receive a NEWCNA sticker to put on the front of your mailbox.

Peterson Property Update The Peterson property was sold on Feb. 28 to a non-profit organization called BiG Austin, bigaustin.org.

The new owners have not shared any definite plans at this time, so we will have to wait and see what happens. When they have more information to share, they are open to making a presentation to the neighborhood association.

A big thank you to Ray & Margaret King for all the efforts they put in over the years watching after the property.
