How we prepare for an uncertain future…Addressing the probable, possible, and unthinkable
• To maintain a leading edge in technology, S&T must continue; once given up, too expensiveonce given up, too expensive and too time-consuming to regain lost ground
• Threat assessments primarily• Threat assessments primarily address the “probable”
• Preventing tactical, operational, d t t i i iand strategic surprise requires
S&T to address the “possible” and the “unthinkable”

Additive ManufacturingTh h th l f d N th t M l d Additi M f t i I tiThrough the newly formed Northeastern Maryland Additive Manufacturing Innovation Authority (NMAMIA), small businesses and others can gain streamlined access to expertise and capabilities in the areas of Additive Manufacturing, 3D printing, and Computer Aided Design (CAD):
• An overarching CRADA is designed for ease-of-use by industry, academia, or other non-federal partners that could qualify for a CRADA collaboration but might find it cumbersome to establish an individual CRADA.
• Projects under the overarching CRADA will be compartmentalized and documented by separate Joint Work Statements (JWS’s) such that data and other intellectual property are protected and not comingled or otherwise released to unauthorized personnel.
• Each JWS will describe the research or development work to be performed the roles of the• Each JWS will describe the research or development work to be performed, the roles of the parties, and the amount of funding to be provided for ECBC or other federal laboratory support.
• The work to be performed by federal entities will be done on a not-to-interfere basis with regular mission work.
• By leveraging the availability of these world-class federal assets, US industry can gain a competitive advantage in the international marketplace, thus spurring US job creation.
