7. Leigh-Anne Regenold, Instructor of Government, presented “Thinking Critically About Voting” on October 17th for her fellow instructors. This was a teaching demonstration showing the way she enhances critical thinking in the classroom.

8. Mina Thompson, Assistant Professor of English, had a literature paper entitled “Caribbean Postcolonial Women’s Writings: Bildungsroman in the Diaspora”, published in the 2014 Conference of College Teachers of English journal. It also received the World Literature Award for this year’s conference, held in Lubbock, TX.

9. The Speech and Debate Team from Tarrant County College, NE competed at the TIFA State Tournament and TCU Invitational in Fort Worth. The tournament boasted 15 teams from all over the state including UT-Austin, Texas State University, A&M University, TCU and more. The results for the two day event were:

10. Sandra Walker, Coordinator of Northeast Career Services, is serving as a member of the Texas Cooperative Education and Internship Association Conference Committee that will host the 2015 TxCEIA Conference in Fort Worth on August 31, 2015.

11. Over 150 students and faculty in the NE Business Department attended a luncheon seminar Thursday, October 30th to hear a panel of local human resource specialists address the issue of

“What Do Employers Want”? These students and faculty represented Accounting, Business, Economics, Fashion Merchandising and Management classes. The Human Resource specialist were :

Northwest Campus Report to the Board of Trustees November 2014

1. The NW Criminal Justice Club attended a field trip to Hubbard Heights Elementary in FWISD on

October 31. They conducted a book drive raising enough books for 700 students. They delivered the books, participated in their story book parade, and read each class a story.

2. The NW Campus Center of Excellence for Aviation, Transportation and Logistics hosted area boy scouts to earn their aviation merit badge on October 4, 2014. About 80 scouts from the Longhorn Council of Fort Worth and Circle Ten Council of Dallas were in attendance. The scouts learned about aviation fundamentals, visited the Alliance control tower, and learned about aviation careers.

3. The Academic Learning Center is hosting series of Student Success Workshops during the month of November.

• Veterans Appreciation event from 8-12 on November 1st in the West Wing of the Library. • November 7 is a CRLA Level 1 Refresher 1-3pm • A Goals workshop is scheduled for November 19 • TSI workshop is scheduled for November 21 from 11:30 to 12:30

4. Alejandro Garza is the founder and editor of the magazine “El Lago Artístico.” This is a magazine in which students publish art, poetry, and short stories, and is entirely in Spanish. Issue #4 will be launched in November.

5. On November 1, 2014 the 4th Annual Marine Creek Creative Writing Conference was held. Wendi Pierce, LeeAnn Olivier and Liz (Mary) Lounsbury planned an incredible conference for the campus and community. The Keynote speaker will be Ceilidh Charleson-Jennings, whose non-fiction book Scent of the Missing is a NY Times bestseller.

6. Josh Blann directed TOM SAWYER and the production was taken to State Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) Festival in Arlington, our production was honored when three of our students were selected to participate in the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarships Auditions at the Regional Festival in February (McKenzie Morrow, Morgan Mizell, and Jordan Woika). Additionally, our Stage Manager, Allyson Renner, was commended for excellence in Stage Management.

7. Lacreacia Sanders, director of Mosaic Dance Project led the group of dancers to Dallas where they performed at the annual Dance Africa Festival.

8. The Northwest Dance Program held its annual High School Dance Day on Thursday, October 23rd. Over 80 students from Saginaw, Diamond Hill, and Richland High Schools came to TCC Northwest to take master classes from Mosaic Dance Project members and watch their dress rehearsal. The day concluded with a Q&A where the high school students were able to chat with company members.

9. Artist Jill O'Brien and Trish Igo had a collaborative piece, "Hoarder" published in the Direct Art magazine's Volume 21, 2014-15, p63. The two artists have three collaborative artworks in the "Art in the Metroplex" exhibit curated by Sarah-Jayne Parsons at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center. Trish Igo is also participating in Oil and Cotton's "Taxidermy Workshop with Katie Innamorato" Saturday, Oct 25th. Ms. Igo is also organizing three workshops at TCC NW, "Ceramics Night for Veterans". They are free for all veterans and are 10/29, 11/5, and 11/12 from 6-9pm. Christian deLeon made some awesome flyers that will be posted around this week. Ceramics II students and Art Club students have been invited to teach lessons or to volunteer with the event planning.

10. Winter Rusiloski received the Fort Worth Art Dealers Association Award for Ahab's Dream at Art in the Metroplex. It was the second highest award of 9 awards given to the 35 works selected from 692 enteries from 19 counties surrounding the Metroplex. Sarah-Jayne Parsons, the director of galleries at TCU judged the show and gave awards. She also gave a nice talk and Ms. Rusiloski’s piece was among the works she discussed at the reception at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center.

11. Anna Hinman, the Coordinator of Special Services at the NW campus, won the Chancellor’s Quarterly Employee Excellence Award. The award was given for outstanding performance and exceptional commitment to Tarrant County College in the areas of Focus on Student Learning and Success, Professional and Personal Growth, and Wellness. Specifically, she was recognized for her outstanding work in the development and implementation of the

Mental Health First Aid program on the Northwest Campus. The program teaches faculty, staff and students how to recognize people exhibiting signs of mental health distress and how to assist them to get the help they need.

12. Alejandro Garza, along with 8 other members from TCC campuses who were part of the TCC Salzburg team, received the Chancellor’s Quarterly Employee Excellence Award on October 1.

South Campus, Dr. Peter Jordan, President

r. Ruth McAdams won the Chancellor’s Quarterly Employee Excellence Award at a presentation held at Trinity River Campus on October 1, 2014. Mineen Fallavollita and Sam Hill were also nominated and received special mention for epitomizing many of the TCC Hallmarks of Excellence.

At the same award ceremony, Maria Valdez and Starpoint Champions Susan Haralson, Jennifer Jackson, Angela Lopez, Belinda Lopez and Victoria Metz were also honored by the Chancellor’s Quarterly Employee Excellence Recognition Committee. Their zealous efforts to increase the number of nominations for the Chancellor’s Quarterly Employee Excellence Award won South Campus the Traveling Trophy which the winner retains until the end of the second quarter.

South Campus hosted WordCamp DFW 2014 on October 4, 2014. WordCamp is a continuing and professional networking event organized by users of WordPress. Over 210 users attended the 20 workshops which covered every aspect of using the world-famous WordPress application, from: writing to publishing to marketing techniques and promotion strategies for all WordPress users. Attendees were impressed by the quality of the campus facilities; they complimented our staff for their helpfulness and left Fort Worth with positive impressions of TCC South Campus, the proud platinum sponsor of the event.

The highly successful two-day S4 (Student Success Scholastic Summit) event was held on Friday, October 10th, and Saturday, October 11, 2014. Friday’s attendance of 224 consisted mainly of full-time faculty and staff while Saturday’s attendance of 85 consisted of adjunct and full-time

faculty. Associate Vice Chancellors Drs. Kimberly Beatty and Jane Harper spoke about District’s plans to bolster student retention. Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Steven Wilson spoke about the different definitions of Student Success. The Employees Care Campaign joined in with the S4 by holding a raffle and silent auctions that raised $3,000 to benefit the TCC Foundation Scholarship Fund.

South Campus faculty members Brian Johnson, Tony Giardino, Dr. Jeremy Byrd, Dr. Shawn Snaples, Nicole Vallee, Dr. Sandi Hubnik, Dr. Lee Snaples, Dr. Charles Overstreet, Carolyn Carney, Madelyn Bowman and Carlos Rovelo participated in a professional development retreat, in Boston, MA, on October 16-19, 2014. Representing 3 academic divisions, the retreat was designed to promote interdisciplinary collaboration among South Campus faculty. These members will share their experiences with the campus community in the form of presentations, organized discussions, and guest lectures. In addition, the retreat has already inspired conversations about interdisciplinary programs and learning community offerings.

South Campus’ Support Staff Council organized and hosted the first-ever Professional Development Day for all support staff on Friday, October 17, 2014. Attended by over 140 colleagues, the multi-faceted professional and personal development sessions offered staff the opportunity to learn, gain updates in best practices, and to ‘network’. Sessions included information on HR Benefits, FMLA, Hiring Processes, Tutor Certification, Dealing with Difficult People, Campus Safety, SkillSoft highlights, Budgeting, Money Management, and much more.

South Campus Social Sciences Department sponsored “Revisiting the War on Poverty: An Interdisciplinary Summit” on October 23, 2014. Approximately 250 students, faculty and staff attended the morning session led by professors John Lundberg, Martha Musgrove and Armando Villarreal. Over lunch, Carlos Rovelo introduced students Kayley Johnson and Martin Schmidt who presented art related to poverty and the students explained the rationale or thoughts behind each piece of art as the group toured the exhibits in the Student Center. The afternoon program was a panel presentation followed

by a Q & A opportunity for the approximately 115 in attendance. Panelist included Dr. Charles Overstreet, Professor of Psychology and Sociology; Ken Shetter, Mayor of Burleson and Director of the Safe City Commission; and Rachel Roberts, Director of planning for Kennedale, Texas. Dr. Overstreet discussed the psychology of poverty while Mr. Shetter and Mrs. Roberts discussed issues they face related to poverty and gave examples of how their cities are trying to address poverty.

Food service distributor company Ben E. Keith has partnered with South Campus’ Career Services to recruit TCC students for their part-

time Night Order Selector positions. With a student-friendly 30-hour per week schedule and a wage of $14.00 per hour, Ben E. Keith successfully hired four TCC students: 2 from South Campus, 1 from Trinity River and 1 from Southeast. Ben E. Keith representatives will continue to work closely with South Campus to continue hiring TCC students for the spring semester.

Southeast Campus, Dr. Bill Coppola, President Business and Technology Division:

Alison Hodges, Instructor of Culinary Arts and Katrina E. Warner, Coordinator of the Culinary Arts program, showcased their culinary arts skills as the featured chefs at the Texas State Fair Culinary Arts Celebrity Kitchen on October 10. The TCC Culinary Program is one of the best in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and received its five-year, national accreditation from The Accrediting Commission of the American Culinary Federation (ACF) Education Foundation in 2013.

Katrina Warner, Coordinator/Instructor of Culinary Arts, Hotel & Restaurant Administration and Alison Hodges, Instructor of Culinary Arts, manned the TCC Culinary Arts booth for the 30th anniversary of Taste of Arlington at the Arlington Convention center on Tuesday, October

21. This was Culinary Arts and Warner’s 12th year of participation in the event that serves over 1,000 patrons as a fundraiser for YMCA Arlington and Theater Arlington. The booth served chocolate & peanut butter palmiers and lemon wafer cookies. Three students helped serve in the booth and a class of 20 Dining Room Service students served as volunteers for the event.

Congratulations to the Culinary Arts’ Monday luncheon for being featured an article by Jamil Oakford, SE news editor of The Collegian’s October 8th issue. The meals, that offer a vegetarian entrée each week and on occasion will include a vegan option, are served Mondays from noon-1:15pm on SE Campus, ESEE 1306. The cost is $5.00 and gives employees and students an alternative menu and the Culinary Arts students an opportunity to have hands-on experience cooking for the public.

Humanities Division:

Oksana Nemirovski, Instructor of Spanish and sponsor of the Organization of Latin Americans (OLA) club, held a “la tertulia” (conversation session) on October 10 for 42 Spanish language students followed by the movie, “Maria Full of Grace.” OLA sponsored a campaign to collect sugar-free candy for the Salvation Army, participated in the Fall Festival Bazaar at the Southeast Campus, and invited students to attend the “El Dia de los Muertos” (Day of the Dead) held in the World Languages Lab.

TCC Southeast Campus had 824 students/staff vote on campus during the early voting period, October 28-30. This is phenomenal and is due to the hard work and emphasis on the "Democracy Commitment" on SE campus.

Diane Thornburg, Instructor of Spanish, received the Chancellor’s Quarterly Employee Excellence Award in October for being part of The Salzburger Team in the areas of Professional and Personal Growth and Interdisciplinary Collaboration.

Sharon Wettengel, Assistant Professor of Sociology, and The Democracy Commitment on the Southeast Campus have been selected as one of the participating campuses in the first joint American Democracy Project (ADP) and The Democracy Commitment (TDC) national civic action series – the Economic Inequality Initiative. They were selected as one of over 30 participating institutions throughout the United States. The purpose of the initiative is to collectively examine the complex issue of growing economic inequality in our democracy and work to think about and engage in public policy efforts.

Michael Vendsel, Associate Professor of Philosophy, successfully defended his dissertation Beyond Immanence and Critique: A Renewed Reading of the Ontological Argument, which completed the requirements for his Ph.D. in philosophy from Villanova University.

Brad Borougerdi, Assistant Professor of History, attended the Southwest Division of the Association of American Geographers (SWAGG) Conference in New Mexico October 23-25 and

presented a paper, "Its Used By the Dissipated and the Deprived: Transforming Perceptions of Hemp in the Atlantic World."

Gregory Kosc, Associate Professor of History, gave a presentation and led a discussion about integrating culture into the classroom on the Bridging Cultures project in the Southeast Campus library on October 24.

Liberal Arts Division:

Jerry Coats, Dean of Liberal Arts on Southeast Campus, presented his paper, “The Making of a Warrior Priest: Henry le Despenser and the Peasants’ Revolt of 1381” at the Texas Medieval Association Conference hosted by the University of North Texas on October 3-4.

The Southeast Campus hosted the Texas 1 Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival from October 21-25. Seven schools participated; these included Richland College, Angelo State University, Texas Wesleyan University, Texas Southern University, Sul Ross University, Tarrant County College—Northwest Campus, and Tarrant County College—Southeast Campus. Along with performances of seven, full-length productions, the more than 150 students and 20 state and regional directors and technical personnel enjoyed workshops in technical theatre, acting, dance and musical theatre auditions, stage combat, scenic design and painting, and makeup—all organized by Southeast Campus faculty and local professionals. Theatre Southeast received numerous compliments regarding our hospitality and excellence in detailing. The festival was a great success due to the support of our administration, our faculty, staff and students, and many of our friends and colleagues on campus.

Theatre Southeast’s entry in Texas I Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival, Around the World in 80 Days, garnered several awards and individual nominations for recognition. These recognitions are listed below.

Respondent’s Choice - Our production of Around the World in 80 Days will be considered for advancement to the Regional Festival. We were notified of this officially on Tuesday, October 28.

Mathematics and Science Division:

The Southeast New Mathways Program (NMP) team consisting of Tommy Awtry, Cathy Costello, David Price, Kathleen Elberson, Greg Shortes and Glenda Paulesich; have attended a number of related workshops and trainings, reviewed the NMP program and met with TCC-SE’s mentor college, Austin Community College. After much research, in the fall 2015 semester the team will be: piloting an updated Math 0361 course; allowing students to transition directly to Math 1342 (Statistics) and Math 1332 (Survey) from the updated Math 0361 course; and creating a library of activity-based lessons to be available to those teaching Math 0361, 1342, and 1332. These actions adhere to the four foundational NMP goals and thus allow TCC to be a NMP participant: provide for multiple math pathways; acceleration that enables students to complete a college-level math course more quickly; intentional use of learning strategies; and curriculum design and pedagogy based on proven practice. Other campuses have been and will be invited to participate in the pilot.

Library Services:

Each Friday at noon, the Judith J. Carrier Library has been hosting a group of students who are reading King Leopold's Ghost : a story of greed, terror, and heroism in Colonial Africa by Adam Hochschild. The discussion is being led by history professors Brad Borougerdi and Mike Downs.

The Judith J. Carrier Library celebrated Hispanic Heritage month with 3 lectures planned by Lili Cano and Dan Flores.

The Judith J. Carrier Library hosted a viewing and discussion of the film, VITO; the Life and Times of an LGBT Freedom Fighter on October 30, 2014.

Student Development Services Career Services established a Career Mentor Program to aid students with narrowing down their career choices. The department matches students with a Mentor in a specific job field. The program schedules meet-up luncheons on the Southeast Campus twice a semester. The luncheons have an informative speaker to educate the students, and then lunch with the mentors immediately after. It is Career Service’s goal to provide a non-intimidating venue for students to gain insight on college majors and career choices. Mentors volunteer from Southeast Campus faculty/staff, as well as community volunteers. Career Services hosted Ron Nash – LinkedIn Whisperer at the Career Meet-up Luncheon. Everyone enjoyed the presentation and became more informed about jump starting their career on LinkedIn. Approximately 45 people attended.

Congratulations to SE students Karen Meacham and Diane Calderon for each receiving the Judith J. Carrier $2500 scholarship from the Arlington Chamber of Commerce's Women's Alliance. The presentation was made at a luncheon held on October 30 at the Arlington Hilton Hotel in front of more than 400 community leaders.

Congratulations to student, Melissa Downey, who was selected to design State Representative Chris Turner’s ornament for the House Chamber Christmas Tree in Austin. The

ornament will represent District 101 and Ms. Downey’s design incorporates

many of the courses and programs taught on the Southeast Campus. After

the holidays, the ornament will be stored and used as a holiday decoration

around the State Capitol

Trinity River, Dr. Tahita Fulkerson, President

Former state district judge and current Tarrant County District Attorney-elect Sharen Wilson visited Professor of History and Government Geoffrey Mitchell’s Texas Government class on October 1. Judge Wilson spoke about her experiences as a lawyer and answered students’ questions. Pictured below are Judge Wilson, Dr. Mitchell, and Texas Government students.

Vice President for Student Development Services Adrian Rodriguez gave four presentations at the National Leadership Conference on Student Government in St. Louis, MO October 9 – 12. He spoke on “Improving Your SGA’s Institutional Effectiveness,” “Turning Conflict into Collaboration,” Celebrate the Good,” and “I Dare You.”

On October 10, TRC hosted a dedication ceremony for the Texas Academy of Biomedical Sciences (TABS) students, an early college high school. Almost four hundred students joined in the celebration. TABS Senior Class Vice President Cyprianna Lawton, TABS Junior Class President Christopher Rowland, TABS Student Body Association President LeShawn Palmer, TABS Principal Troy Langston, and the TABS Musical Ensemble participated in the program. They were joined by TRC Student Government Association President Antonio Mercado, President of the TABS Parent Teacher Student Association Dr. Maria Perez, TCCD Board Member Louise Appleman, Trinity River Campus President Tahita Fulkerson, Vice President of Academic Affairs Bryan Stewart, interim FWISD Superintendent Pat Linares, and University of North Texas Health Science Center Associate Dean Robert Kaman. Trinity River Campus is

now home to 171 TABS juniors and seniors. The 193 freshmen and sophomores who attend classes at their nearby FWISD high school came to campus for the day to join in the celebratory event, to take class pictures, and to get a glimpse of what their final two years of high school will look like at the Trinity River Campus.

On October 18, the United Hispanic Council of Tarrant County honored Vice President of Continuing Education Services Robert Munoz with a 2014

Hispanic Heritage Award in “Appreciation for his Untiring Commitment to the Hispanic Community.”

On October 21, History, Government, & Philosophy Department Administrative Assistant Angela Castillo and her family coordinated and hosted an Enchilada Dinner in conjunction with the Alzheimer’s Walk on October 25. Proceeds from the dinner went directly to the Alzheimer’s Association.

On October 24, members of the Trinity River Socratic Club along with Professor of Philosophy Mark Anderson attended the” Randomness and Foreknowledge” conference at the Renaissance Hotel in Dallas. This three day event featured presentations by many of the most well-known scholars in the Christian philosophical tradition including Richard Swinburne from Oxford University and Peter van Inwagen from the University of Notre Dame.

On October 24, Student Development Services, led by Coordinator of Student Activities Eddie Brassart, hosted “Trick or Treat Down Main Street.” Twenty-two student clubs, organizations, and departments participated to provide a festive and safe Halloween experience to more than 534 visitors. Participating groups included Campus Police, Library, Bookstore, Advising and Counseling, TCC Connect, Financial Aid, Nursing, Women in Power (WIP), Association of Drama and Arts, Guitar Club,

Japanese Culture Club, Manos y Manas, Texas Nursing Students Association, International Students Association, Bronies on Campus, P3 Recruitment Team, STEM Club, Cycling 4 Autism, Phi Theta Kappa, Sigma Kappa Delta, and Student Veterans of America.

On October 27, Trinity River Campus began nine 7-week classes at the Tarleton State University, Fort Worth Hickman Center Campus. Total enrollment for these classes is 215 students, averaging almost 24 students per class. Total enrollment for the fall is approximately 600 students.

On September 13, Associate Professor of Radiology Jeniesa Johnson presented an 8-hour seminar on The Diversity of Radiologic Technology in Kansas City, Missouri.

TCC Connect, Dr. Carlos Morales

Dual Credit

• On October 8, 2014, TCC Connect hosted a Luncheon for the Dual Credit Counselors from partnering Independent School Districts and High Schools at Trinity River Campus, with an attendance 65 area High School Counselors.

• On October 24, 2014, Dr. Aubra Gant, Mr. Jack Dalrymple, and Dr. Stephanie Barnes presented a brief overview of the new House Bill 5 requirements at the TCC Developmental Education Institute. The TCC Connect Dual Credit staff shared how HB5 will impact TCC, and our role in collaborating with Independent School Districts in Tarrant County to implement and sustain the provisions of the new legislation.

• TCC Connect Dual Credit hosted a series of Professional Development Workshops for our partnering Independent School Districts and High Schools. The workshops began on October 28, 2014 at the Northwest and Trinity River Campuses, and ended on November 17, 2014 at the Southeast Campus. The Professional Development Workshops were an opportunity for the TCC Connect Dual Credit team and collaborating Student Development Services departments to provide information and training on policies and procedures to counselors on students participating in Dual Credit through TCC Connect. Topics covered during the workshops include: Admissions, Business Services, Financial Aid, Academic Affairs, and an overview of the Dual Credit program.

• Mr. Jack Dalrymple represented TCC Connect at the first planning meeting of the TCC Veteran’s Success Implementation Team on October 30, 2014. As a standing member of this committee, Mr. Dalrymple will contribute his experience and expertise garnered from his 30-year career in the U.S. Navy, and from his tenure working in higher education. The committee will work to build policies and procedures to provide efficient, effective, and exemplary services to fit the needs of our student-veteran population.

• The TCC Connect Dual Credit and Academic Outreach staff attended and participated in the third annual TCCD Student Development and Success Retreat on October 31, 2014 at the Hurst Convention Center. This year’s theme for the retreat focused on “Honoring the Hallmarks”. Attendees of the retreat participated in sessions targeting professional and personal growth, wellness, interdisciplinary collaboration, unshakeable focus on student learning and success, and continuous process improvement. The TCC Connect staff assisted their TCC counterparts during the retreat by serving on the registration team, as the stage manager, taking photographs of the attendees on the red carpet as the “Paparazzi”, as facilitators for the breakout sessions, and on the planning committee. Special acknowledgements were given to Steven Buster for being nominated for the Community Service and Engagement award, Sam Orcutt for the Continuous Process Improvement award, and Shirley Goodman for being selected as the district winner for the Strong Open Communication award.

• Dr. Aubra Gantt and Roxanne Meza represented the TCC Connect Dual Credit staff on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at the second annual Tarrant County College District (TCCD) Toro Dash. Both ladies successfully completed the 5K race, and Mrs. Meza placed second in the 25-29 age range with a time of 25min, 55sec. The goal of the Toro Dash is to provide a family friendly event that promotes wellness in the community and amongst TCCD’s staff and students. Proceeds from the Toro Dash go towards the TCC Foundation’s Scholarship Fund and TCC’s Wellness Fund. Congratulations to Roxanne and all of the 2014 Toro Dash participants!

• During the months of October and November, the TCC Connect Dual Credit Coordinators conducted numerous Dual Credit Informational Sessions in partnering high schools throughout Tarrant County, providing students, parents, and high school administrators with detailed perspective on the eligibility, requirements, and benefits of Dual Credit.

eLearning

• eLearning is celebrating National Distance Learning Week November 10-14, 2014 with various activities planned for all TCC Campuses such as Campus Outreach events, Student Seminars, and an eLearning Panel Discussion at Northwest Campus with Students and Faculty on November 12, 2014.

• eLearning introduced a new procedure for the delivery of on-campus proctored exams called SharePoint Testing to TCCD at the beginning of the Fall 2014 term. SharePoint Testing replaces a 40 year old eLearning testing process that now allows exams for eLearning faculty and students to be delivered electronically. SharePoint Testing was developed in collaboration between Sam Orcutt and Kathy Burks from TCC Connect Academic Outreach, Dr. Kimberly Beatty, Associate Vice Chancellor of Student Success, and the TCC Testing Center Coordinators. SharePoint Testing was piloted for over a year. The new test delivery process increases the security of exams, greatly reduces paper waste, and increases access for all eLearning faculty and students. eLearning has successfully used SharePoint to complete seven test periods since its full implementation, and has been well received throughout TCC.

Academic Affairs

• On October 17 discipline coordinators Cristina Martinez and Allegra Davis held a two hour professional development session for 21 dual credit instructors. The session addressed communication particularly with high school students. The main focus of the session involved improving classroom communication and how to better relate, empathize, and provide constructive feedback. The attendees participated in facilitated discussions, group work, and were provided with important policies throughout the

session. Positive feedback was provided such as, “What I really thought exceptional about this session was the atmosphere of congeniality and harmony exhibited by the presenters and the participants” and, “It was simply smashing!” 30 attendees are expected at the next professional development session in November.

TCC Connect

• Dr. Carlos Morales has hosted lunches with area Independent School District Superintendents to introduce the Dual Credit Team. So far the schools have been: Arlington, Mansfield, Everman, Birdville, Keller, Azle, Eagle Mountain-Saginaw, Grapevine-Colleyville, Kennedale, Castleberry, White Settlement, Hurst-Bedford-Euless

• Dr. Aubra Gantt made a presentation on behalf of TCC Connect and its Dual Credit program to Congressman Marc Veasey’s Education Task Force Meeting on October 28, 2014.

• Mrs. Wendy Jasper-Martinez, Director of Academic Affairs & Dual Credit Operations,

presented at the National Conference for the 40th Anniversary of the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) regarding Accelerated Weekend College Programs for the Non-Traditional Student. Her research also included presenting ways to incorporate Veterans, Dual Credit students who have graduated from high school and attend TCC and adults who have completed apprenticeships into a Prior Learning Assessment program to complete an associate’s degree via the Weekend College cohort.

Academic Affairs New Appointment

• Dr. Christopher Darville, Director, Student Learning and Success, joins the Academic Affairs and Student Success Division to provide leadership and administrative support to faculty across the college as they implement new pedagogies and initiatives such as Supplemental Instruction. Chris will also serve as the college STEM officer working closely with the established STEM Council to maximize campus and college efforts and resources relating to STEM.

• Dr. Darville and Dr. Sheryl Harris, Executive Director, Program Development and International Initiatives, attended the STEMtech Conference, November 9 – 12, 2014, in Denver, Colorado. The conference focused on increasing student access, success and

completion in science, technology, engineering and mathematics to address workforce needs.

Continuing Education Services Presentations

• Dr. Larry Anderson, Director of Workforce Services, and Mr. César Dίaz, Coordinator of Workforce Services, presented with Forth Worth ISD and the Tarrant Workforce Board on “Building a Successful Consortium” at the first annual Texas Workforce Commission’s Adult Education and Literacy Symposium on October 8, 2014.

Recognition of Clients – Small Business Development Center

• E-Mist Innovations was recently featured in the Fort Worth Star Telegram and on WFAA TV for its Touch Point Healthy Infection Control System. This disinfectant sprayer was used extensively in treating the apartment of a person treated for Ebola.

• Technology Team was a recipient of the Governor’s Award for Business Excellence

Student Success The Student Success Retreat was held on October 31, 2014, with 314 attendees. Highlights of the day included Four-Day Weekend with a three-part message: Create a “yes, and” culture, listen to others (avoid multitasking), and support others who may be in the “hot seat”. • Men of Color Mentoring staff members, Dr. Eligio Martinez and Mr. Freddie Sandifer, have had their proposal, “Turning the Page: Transforming the African American and

Latino Male Experience” accepted and will be presenting at the Black, Brown and College Bound Summit on February 18, 2015, in Tampa, Florida.

College Access Enrollment Results

• Exceeded its goal of a 10% increase in the number of high schools participating in the College Access program from 51 in 2012-13 to 58 in 2013-2014 for an increase of 12%.

• Surpassed its second goal of increasing the number of applications by 10% for 2013-

2014 by achieving an increase of 28% over 2012-2013, from 4,678 to 6,492 applications.

• Bettered the enrollment goal to increase the number of enrollments by 10% with an increase of 30%, from 1,982 in 2012-2013 to 2,826 in 2013-2014.

• The retention results for its cohort group from Fall term 2013 to Fall term 2014 was

62.8% compared to the district retention rate of 49.7%.
