L. I. P. S. CLASSES

Lipreading. Information. Practical. Strategies CLASSES

L.I.P.S. Classes provide a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in which to learn, with other deaf and hard of hearing people. Everybody learns at their own pace without

pressure. Learning to lip read is a great way of building up your confidence and will help you to cope with some of those awkward situations that make you feel anxious.

How L.I.P.S. Classes can help you!

By joining a L.I.P.S. Class you can

• build up your lip-reading skills

• learn to recognise some speech movements • anticipate what’s coming next

• know how to make the best use of environmental conditions

We do so much more at classes – lip reading practice using different exercises & games. We learn about Deaf Awareness, Communication Tactics/Strategies. Also

new equipment and what is available to help with our residual hearing. We can signpost to other relevant services. We learn through discussions, sharing

experiences and have guest speakers on deaf related topics. And more importantly we have FUN.

COME ALONG, BRING A FRIEND AND TRY A CLASS

Delivery Scam / Sgiâm Gwasanaeth Danfon Parseli Hello ,

We would like to make you aware of the below scam. With the run up to Christmas many of you will be ordering items online for delivery and we want to make sure you do not fall victim to this scam.

Reports advise that a card is posted through your door purporting to come from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact them on 0906 6611911 (a Premium rate number). If you do call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed £315 for the phone call. Anyone receiving a card with these sort of details should call Royal Mail Fraud on 020 7239 6655 or Crime Stoppers UK on 0800 555 111. It's also really important that people are aware that the premium rate number may change so please do not call any number stated on a card from PDS.

Hoffwn eich hysbysu o’r sgiâm hon. Rhwng rŵan a’r Nadolig bydd nifer ohonoch yn archebu eitemau ar-lein ac rydym eisiau sicrhau nad ydych yn dioddef oherwydd y sgiâm hon.

Yn ôl yr adroddiadau bydd cerdyn yn cael ei bostio drwy flwch llythyrau eich drws gan gwmni honedig o’r enw PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) yn awgrymu nad oedd modd iddynt ddosbarthu parsel a bod angen i chi eu ffonio ar 0906 6611911 (rhif pris uchel).

Os ydych yn ffonio’r rhif hwn ac yn clywed neges sydd wedi cael ei recordio maent eisoes wedi codi £315 am yr alwad ffôn. Dylai unrhyw un sy’n cael cerdyn gyda’r math yma o fanylion arno ffonio Adran Dwyll y Post Brenhinol ar 020 7239 6655 neu Crimestoppers ar 0800 555 111. Hefyd mae’n hynod o bwysig bod pobl yn ymwybodol y gall y rhif pris uchel newid felly plîs peidiwch â ffonio unrhyw rif sydd ar gerdyn a gewch gan PDS.

Community Voice

Gwrandwch/Listen

Community Voice is a 4 year National Lottery funded project which started in April 2012. The aim of the project is to help communities on Anglesey influence services, policies and decisions that affect them so their needs are better met.

Our role has been specifically to help people with hearing loss play an active part in the project. To achieve this we have been:-

• Working with people with hearing loss to empower them to engage with existing services in their area.

• Raising deaf awareness throughout the community as a whole through the provision of deaf awareness workshops

• Deaf awareness training

• Provision of British Sign Language (BSL) interpreters at events

• Organise regular forum meetings across Anglesey, to discuss a variety of issues regarding services on Anglesey including problems with accessing health services and not knowing how to change the services they received.

As the project develops we will be taking these issues to the service providers themselves and giving people with hearing loss the opportunity to influence these services and change them for the better.

So far over 140 people on Anglesey have taken part in the project with us.

If you live on Anglesey, and would like to take part or, would like more information on the Community Voice Project, please contact our Community Voice project officer Lee Thomas at the NWDA Offices, or you can contact him by e-mail:-
