NorthStarTechnicalprovidesthehighestlevelofcustomerservice,24hoursperday,sevendaysaweek.Ourcustomersknowtheycanrelyonustocompletecomplexorrushjobs,evenunderchallengingconditions.After-hoursphonecallsareansweredbyalivepersonwhomobilizesthemembersofourteamtorespondtocustomers’mosturgentneeds.

Whetheracompanyneedsaparturgentlyreplacedorrepaired,orrequiresacustom-manufacturedmechanicalcomponent,NorthStarisreadyandabletogettheworkdone.Ourteamofexperiencedmachinists,millwrightsandwelderswillpickupanddeliverparts,andfabricateneededcomponents.Inadditiontoworkdoneinourshop,wefrequentlytraveltoourcustomerstorepairandreplaceequipment.WeservecustomersacrossCanadaandthenorthernU.S.

Manyofourcustomersrelyonusforreverseengineeringservicestomanufactureanewpartfromabrokenorwornone.CADsoftwareenablesustorenderdrawingsfortheseparts.

Otherservicesweofferincludegearcutting,vibrationanalysis,heattreatingandchromeplating.Weunderstandthatthewheelsofindustryneedtokeepmoving,nomatterwhat.Weprideourselvesongettingworkdonecorrectlyandquickly.

Afamily-ownedandoperatedbusiness,NorthStarwasfoundedbyAnthonyPinelli,P.Eng.,in1986.Heestablishedatraditionofqualityworkmanship,whichisnowcarried

AmongtheequipmentinNorthStar’sfacilityaremultipleCNCmachines,

allusingMastercamsoftware.Thesemachineshandleproductionrunsto

perfectlymatchtheoriginalCADdesign,byautomatingthecomplexseriesofsteps

requiredtoproduceapart.

Weconductin-processinspectionsforsmallproductionruns,tocatchany

errorsthatmayhaveoccurredintheprogrammingortoolingselections.

OurCNCmillsandlathesareequippedwith“wirelessintuitiveprobingsystems”

andan“automatictooleye.”Thewirelessintuitiveprobingsystemassistswiththesetupofpartsforaccuracyand

inspections.Theautomatictooleyewillcompleteinspectionsontoolingduring

themachiningitself,ensuringinsertsandtoolingarenotshowingsignsof

wearduringruncycles.Thisprovidesformaximumaccuracyonmachinedparts.

Ourshopisalsoequippedwithacomputercontrolledsawforprogramming

largematerialcutruns.

machinepiecesupto52inchesindiameterand203incheslong,andweighingupto10,000pounds.

Ourotherequipmentincludeslargeandsmalldrillpressmachines,surfacegrinders,andvariouscuttingequipmentsuchasverticalandhorizontalsaws.

NorthStar’smillwrightsofferadisciplinedapproachtoidentifyingproblems,assessingoptions,anddetailingsolutionsandcosts.Weassignaleadmillwrighttoeachprojecttooverseecustomers’overhaulandrepairprojects,whetherit’sacompleterebuildongearboxes,freshwaterandwastewaterpumps,centrifuges,orcrushingandprocessingequipment.Wehaveawiderangeofexperienceindifferentindustries.

NorthStarTechnicalisequippedwiththreelargepresses.Bothverticalandhorizontalstyleshelpwithremovalofcomponentssuchasbearings,couplingsandgears.Ourpressesrangefrom100,200and300-tonunits.Alongwiththisequipment,ourmillwrightingdepartmentissetupwithawiderangeofpullingandpushingequipment,alongwithovensandliquidnitrogenequipmentforheatingandfreezing,toassistintheinstallationoftighttoleranceandinterferenceparts.

3 NorthStarTechnicalhasstandingcontractswithcompaniestoroutinelyrefurbishtheirequipment.Thiscrusherfromarenderingandrecyclingplanthasbeencompletelyrebuilt–includingthebearinghousings,maincrushershaft,andgearboxanddrive–thencleaned,re-paintedandassembledfordeliverybacktothecustomer.

Millwright ingWeworkonassemblylines,pumpingstations,printshopsandatallotherindustrieswherefixedheavymachineryisinplaceandinneedofattention.

Ouremployeesdisassembleandinspectmachinery,replacewornorbrokenparts,cleanthemachineryandreassembleit–rightonourclients’shopfloors.Whenrequired,we’llbringpartsbacktoourshopquicklytofabricatereplacements.

Ourexperiencedmillwrightsworkalongsideourcustomers’employeestohelptroubleshootproblems,andtoprovidetemporaryshiftandshutdowncoverage.Typically,weassignthesameteamofmillwrightstoeachcustomerinorderthattheyunderstandandcanworkwiththeplant’sequipment,andfollowindividualhealthandsafetyproceduresandothercustomerspecificpractices.

ThemillwrightswhoworkforNorthStarTechnicalarealllicensedtooperateforklifts,overheadcranesandmanlifts,andhavefallarrestandconfinedspacecertification.

Ourteamwelcomeschallenges,particularlywhenwe’recalledupontofabricateorrepairwithaluminums,stainlessandmildsteels,uncommonalloysandcastiron.Ourworkincludeshard-facing,abrasionresistantwelding.

Weldproceduresarereviewedbyaweldingengineerandcanalsobedevelopedforspecificapplications.Value-addedweldservicesofferedbyNorthStarincludenon-destructivetesting,liquidpenetranttesting,ultrasoundexaminationsandmagneticparticletesting.

OurfacilityisCSAStandardsW47.1Division2andW59certified,andCSAStandardsW47.2forfusionweldingofaluminum.

FabricationprojectsNorthStarhasdevelopedincludespecialtyproductsformanufacturingandtransportationindustries.Thoseproductsrangefromhandheldpartstothoseweighingupto10tons.Customersforourweldingworkincluderailways,truckingcompanies,chemicalcompaniesandmunicipalities.

OurIRD295automaticbalancerbringsanewlevelofaccuracyandconveniencetobalancingrotatingequipment.Awiderangeoffeaturesisavailabletocoverallrequirementsofprecisionbalancing,including

comparisontoestablishedtolerancesandprintingausercustomizablecertificatetodocumentthebalancingresults.

Normalcorrosion,wearanddepositbuildupcanresultinunbalancedequipment.Wetakeonbalancingprojectsrangingfromsmall,high-speedrotors,torotatingcomponentsandassembliesofuptofivetons.

Wecandesignandfabricatecustommandrelsandbalancetoolingtosuiteachapplication.

Companiesthatuseshafts,flywheels,gears,crankshaftsandevenpropellers–suchastheshippingindustry–relyonNorthStarfordynamicbalancing.

Wehavealsodevelopedclosecollaborativerelationshipswithcontractorswhoworkwithustoofferourcustomersvalue-addedservices,includingon-sitevibrationanalysisandbalancingservices.These
