Message From Vice Principal- Rogene Reid
A belated Happy New Year and welcome back to school! The February newsletter has several important events that need mentioning. Details may be found elsewhere in this newsletter.
The month of January brought promise of a New Year and excitement. At North Kipling JMS we continue to enrich our students with opportunities to develop their self through our curriculum, athletics, and an assortment of school-based activities. The participation and leadership of our staff and students in these endeavors are truly appreciated. Together, our school community is fostering an environment where students feel they can belong, and where all students have opportunities to reach their potential. We are dedicated to ensuring our students are “happy, safe, and learning.” As we look ahead to a school year of hope and success, let us remember that our efforts at school and home are part of this journey.
We would like to welcome Ms. Dhindra who is replacing Mrs. Rehemtula while she is on maternity leave.
A warm welcome back to Mrs. Toor and Mrs. Haider as they have returned to their teaching duties. Mr. Fernandes will be covering Mrs. Rai’s class until March Break
Some reminders:
The Parent Council Meeting, will take place on February 8th (7:00-8:00pm).
Finally, I feel honoured in joining a wonderfully effective and vibrant team of educators for serving our student body-your children. I am happy to support your children and help them experience success for which education and character building are essential components. I look forward to continuing to work and collaborate with the staff, students and parents/guardians in the North Kipling community to maximize student success. Please do make it a point to come in regularly and meet with me (Ms. Reid), Mr. Cassar and Mrs. Semcesen. Let us continue to know each other and discuss how we can support your child even better. Your suggestions are vital for our success! These will greatly enhance the impact of gains made.

Some Messages from the Leaders of the PALs Program
We were trained by Ms. Dundar, Mr. Robertson, Mme Maybee and Ms. Patel. We learned how to play some fun outdoor games. At recess time we teach students in grades 1 to 6. We are positive and responsible kids. We want
North Kipling to be a fun, safe place. By: Victoria
Playground leaders wear yellow vests at recess time. If a student is bored, we can help teach them new games to play. There are about 10 people wearing vests every recess. There are 4 PALS in every classroom from grades 1 to
6. By: Hailie
As a playground PAL, here is one game we learned. It is called pirate ship. There is one captain who gives out commands like, “Sweep!” or ‘Deck!” or “Captain’s coming!”. Every command has a
different action to follow. By: Sarmad
The goal of the (Playground Activity Leaders) PALs Program is to engage students in fun activities. This helps to create an inclusive place for students, teach social skills, and hopefully, decrease some of the schoolyard conflicts like fighting and
bullying. Encourage your child to seek out a playground PAL.
A message from the Caring and Safe Schools Committee:
North Kipling JMS Girls’
Basketball
This year’s grade 8 girls’ basketball team played
against three other basketball teams from other
schools competitively on Dec. 2nd/11. The “NK Girl
Ballers” made North Kipling proud as they tied with
one school and played their best against the two
others! As a result of an amazingly skilled and
dedicated coach with 3+ hours of fitness training and
skill development a week, we were able to form this
fantastic team and succeed in all our goals! Our team
was the most unique due to the large amount of
players and skilled age range. On behalf of our team
I would like to thank all of our great supporters and
of course our incredible coach Ms. Patterson, whom without – none of this could be possible. To show our appreciation
for Ms. Patterson, one teammate purchased a basketball on the team’s behalf, which we all signed and gave to Ms.
Patterson (you can now find that basketball displayed in Ms. Patterson’s room). Another teammate purchased a
chocolate cake for Ms. Patterson and the team for our basketball celebration of success
party. On January 23rd, our team headed to the Hoop Dome for a friendly tournament
against other basketball teams in Toronto all day; it was a
fun and memorable day. The brilliant players of this team
were: Teija, Alyssa, Hilai, Kamiel, Roosenika, Fatima,
Kadrea, Anita, Ifwa, Rubeena, Fatuma, Liana, Melissa,
Lidya, Shahad, Shashell, Jayda, Benita, and Alyssa. Ms.
Patterson also coaches a boys’ team who equally
appreciate her passion for sports and her dedication to
student success!
