North Kipling’s Winter Concert

The students at North Kipling presented to their parents, the culmination of their first term efforts in art, dance and music on Jan 26th. Thank you to all the students and teachers who participated. A special thanks goes to Mr. Samijlo who chaired the committee and prepared many of the class music presentations and Ms. Orszulik who assembled the student technical team. The work of all the students and teachers is much appreciated by the administration and the parents as well. We received many positive comments about how the event as well. Some Messages from the Leaders of the PALs Program

We were trained by Ms. Dundar, Mr. Robertson, Mme Maybee and Ms. Patel. We learned how to play some fun outdoor games. At recess time we teach students in grades 1 to 6. We are positive and responsible kids. We want

North Kipling to be a fun, safe place. By: Victoria

Playground leaders wear yellow vests at recess time. If a student is bored, we can help teach them new games to play. There are about 10 people wearing vests every recess. There are 4 PALS in every classroom from grades 1 to

6. By: Hailie

As a playground PAL, here is one game we learned. It is called pirate ship. There is one captain who gives out commands like, “Sweep!” or ‘Deck!” or “Captain’s coming!”. Every command has a

different action to follow. By: Sarmad

The goal of the (Playground Activity Leaders) PALs Program is to engage students in fun activities. This helps to create an inclusive place for students, teach social skills, and hopefully, decrease some of the schoolyard conflicts like fighting and

bullying. Encourage your child to seek out a playground PAL.

A message from the Caring and Safe Schools Committee:

North Kipling JMS Girls’

Basketball

This year’s grade 8 girls’ basketball team played

against three other basketball teams from other

schools competitively on Dec. 2nd/11. The “NK Girl

Ballers” made North Kipling proud as they tied with

one school and played their best against the two

others! As a result of an amazingly skilled and

dedicated coach with 3+ hours of fitness training and

skill development a week, we were able to form this

fantastic team and succeed in all our goals! Our team

was the most unique due to the large amount of

players and skilled age range. On behalf of our team

I would like to thank all of our great supporters and

of course our incredible coach Ms. Patterson, whom without – none of this could be possible. To show our appreciation

for Ms. Patterson, one teammate purchased a basketball on the team’s behalf, which we all signed and gave to Ms.

Patterson (you can now find that basketball displayed in Ms. Patterson’s room). Another teammate purchased a

chocolate cake for Ms. Patterson and the team for our basketball celebration of success

party. On January 23rd, our team headed to the Hoop Dome for a friendly tournament

against other basketball teams in Toronto all day; it was a

fun and memorable day. The brilliant players of this team

were: Teija, Alyssa, Hilai, Kamiel, Roosenika, Fatima,

Kadrea, Anita, Ifwa, Rubeena, Fatuma, Liana, Melissa,

Lidya, Shahad, Shashell, Jayda, Benita, and Alyssa. Ms.

Patterson also coaches a boys’ team who equally

appreciate her passion for sports and her dedication to

student success!
