1. Feature Description, Integrity, Eligibility:
The feature is a one room prairie school on concrete foundation. This school was moved to this location for historical preservation. The gable roof of the school is covered with shingles that look like shakes. There is metal capping at the peak with finials. No chimney remains. The bulding measures 28 feet north to south and 20 feet east to west. The soffits are open.
There is a wide trim board running under the soffits on the peak ends of the school. The remainder of the siding is 6 inch wood lap with 4 inch wood corner trim, nicely painted. The is a 5 panel wood door at the top of a wooden porch with two steps. Wood railings are to either side. A closed in area above the door looks to have been a transom. There is a small entry with space to either side for coat room. One side has books. The school room itself has tongue and groove hardwood flooring. The walls and ceiling are wall board with beadboard wainscot on all the walls. On the north wall of the school room there is a 5 panel wood door and a filled in window and this has been sided over. There are 5 double hung, two over two, windows on the west wall. Shade pull from the top and there are half curtains on the bottom. Blackboards are on the south half of the east wall and the east half of the south wall. Light fixtures would suggest electricity. The school has student desks, teachers desk, maps, water coolers, a pot belly stove and many other items common to a one room school.
School history says this school was built in 1910 and it continued to operate until the spring of 1967.
