Ralph Batton

A 1944 Magnolia High graduate, Ralph joined the Navy after high school and served proudly as a member of the Sea Bees Construction Group.He played football at West Liberty College in West Virginia. From 1959-1984 he was a Physical Education teacher at Nordonia Jr. High. During his tenure at Nordonia he coached football, basketball, and was the trainer.From 1962-1984 he ran the scoreboard for all of the JV and Varsity basketball games. In 1963 he helped start the wrestling and basketball programs at the Jr. High. From 1963-1972 he organized the community

summer Olympic Games for students in K-6 grades. In 1969 he helped build the original Boliantz Stadium. Ralph is survived by his wife Jane and their four sons-Tim, Jeff, Ben, and William all of whom are Nordonia graduates. Tim and Ben are also in the Hall of Fame.

Amanda Karduck

A 2000 Nordonia graduate, Amanda earned 12 varsity letters while competing in Soccer, Basketball, Softball, and Track. Throughout her career she achieved the highest GPA on each team she participated on. She earned all-conference honors in Basketball as well as all-academic honors in Soccer, Basketball, and Track. Amanda competed at the Division I level at Eastern Michigan earning three varsity letters in Rowing. Presently, Amanda is a Firefighter/ Paramedic for the Northfield Center/Sagamore Hills Fire District. She has the distinction of being the first female firefighter for the Painesville Fire

Department. In 2011 she earned a Life Saving medal for rescuing a child from a structure fire.

Amanda lives in the area and remains active in the Nordonia Hills Safety Committee as well as Habitat for Humanity.

Ryan Lange

A 1999 graduate of Nordonia High School, Ryan was an outstanding grappler for the Knights. His wrestling accomplishments include earning four letters, being a three time all-conference selection and League MVP. At the State level Ryan was a three time qualifier. In 1998 he finished as runner up and helped the Knights take home the runner up team trophy. In 1999 Ryan’s overall season record was 36-1 which included a state championship as well as finishing third at the High School Nationals. His overall record at Nordonia was an amazing 130-19.

At Purdue University where he wrestled at the 174 lb. weight class, Ryan was a four time NCAA Division I National Qualifier, and a two time Big Ten champ. In 2003 he finished 8th and in 2004 he finished 5th at Nationals making him a two time All-American.He also holds Purdue records for the most takedowns and wins. Ryan still stays active in the local wrestling arena when time allows. He lives in Aurora with his wife Amanda.

Jordan Mabin

A 2007 graduate, Jordan was a two-sport athlete excelling in both football and track. His 10th, 11th , and 12th grade seasons he was Nordonia’s MVP in football. During his senior season he was chosen as the Cable 9, ABJ, PD, and Fox 8 Player of the Year. Jordan earned the Lou Groza MVP award as given by the Cleveland Touchdown Club and was an All-Ohio selection his senior year. According to Rivals.com Jordan was ranked as the 2nd best cornerback and 6th best running back in the state. Scout.com ranked him as the 18th best cornerback in the nation. Jordan finished his high school career with 6,700 rushing

yards which ranks him as the 6th highest rusher in state history. His 92 touchdowns ranks him 9th in state history.He never missed a game in his high school career. Jordan holds numerous records at Nordonia including most rushing yards per game (317), season (2,354), and career (6,700), most carries in a game (38) and career (869), as well as most points scored in a season (184) and career (564). At Northwestern University Jordan had 49 career starts at cornerback. His senior season he was team co-captain. He finished his career with 7 interceptions. He was an All-Big Ten Academic Honoree. Jordan is currently a cornerback for the Atlanta Falcons and resides in Georgia.

Shamira Marshall

Shamira, a 2008 graduate of Nordonia is the most prolific golfer in school history.She has the distinction of being a four-time conference MVP and a two-time All-Ohioan. She was also a two-time ABJ Player of the Year. Shamira never lost a round in dual-match play at Nordonia. She averaged 37.5 strokes per 9 holes and 74.8 strokes per 18 holes her senior season. She finished as the top finisher at both the sectional and district tournaments and the state runner-up in 2007.

At Kent State, Shamira was a four time letter winner and was a member of the All-MAC tournament team three times. She was a four time MAC tournament team champion. Shamira is a two-time Women’s Amateur Participant and qualified for match play. Presently Shamira lives in the Chicago area and attends Loyola University where she is working on her Doctorate.

Corrie (Mazurk) Conrad

Corrie, a 1995 Nordonia graduate excelled in Soccer for the Knights.She was a two year team captain and a four year MVP and top scorer. Some of her accomplishments include 1st team All-Metro, 1st team All-GCC, 1st team All- Summit County, and 1st team All-ABJ. She ranks 18th on the All-Ohio list with 43 goals in a season and 25th with 110 goals for her career. Her 43 goals were ranked as the 2nd most goals scored by a single player that year in the state.Corrie once scored 6goals in a game. She is the only Nordonia soccer player to make this prestigious list.

She started playing soccer at age 5 with the Macedonia YMCA, was the only girl on the boys’ middle school teams and played with numerous club teams as well. She also participated in the Olympic Development program. Corrie still plays both indoor and outdoor soccer. Corrie went on to Ohio University receiving a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Health. She and her husband Shawn reside in Florida.

Tim McKee

Tim is a 1963 graduate of Nordonia. He was a three-time letterman in football, basketball, and track. In track he earned all-conference honors. He held the school record in the mile from 1962-1977. He earned a Bachelor’s of Science and a Master’s Degree in School Counseling from Western Kentucky University. Tim came back to his alma mater to teach and coach. He started coaching middle school track in 1970 and started the middle school cross country program in 1972. He held both of these positions until 1984 and took over as the head coach for both programs at the high school. His 1992 cross country team finished

fourth in the state. In 1996 Tim went back to the middle school to coach cross country and track. Tim has coached 44 consecutive track seasons and 41 consecutive cross country seasons. Tim lives in the district with his wife Linda(Nordonia graduate)and has two sons Todd and Kurt(Nordonia graduates).

Dave McLaughlin

Dave graduated from Newton Falls High School in 1954. He played football, basketball, and baseball and earned 12 varsity letters. He played basketball at Baldwin-Wallace and graduated from Youngstown State University. He taught Health, Physical Education, History, and English at Nordonia Jr. High. He then moved to the high school to teach American History, Psychology and became the Work Study Coordinator. Coach McLaughlin coached basketball at Nordonia High School for 21 years from 1966-1981 and then again from 1986-1990, a total of 374 games.

Throughout his tenure he coached three conference championship teams. He also coached at many camps from the “Biddy” program to college level. Many of his former players have said that he did not care about wins or losses but he cared that each of his players performed to their potential on and off the court. He cared about each individual. He had a big impact on his players lives because through basketball he taught; structure, effort, patience, and positive outcome. Dave is survived by his wife Marian. She resides in Nevada.

Amanda Sefcik

Amanda, a 2003 Nordonia graduate, earned 7 varsity letters while competing in cheerleading, basketball, and track. She still holds four Nordonia track records including the long jump(18’11”), the 100 meter dash (11.8 seconds), the 200 meter dash(25.54 seconds) and the 4x100 meter relay. She was a three year state qualifier in both the 100 meter dash and long jump. In 2001 she finished as the runner up in the long jump at the state track meet. She was the team and league MVP as well as an All-Ohio selection in track for three years. In basketball she earned 2nd team All-Ohio honors and honorable mention two more years. Earning a scholarship to BGSU Amanda competed in the sprints and long jump. She finished

as the MAC runner up in the long jump in 2006 and still holds the 2nd best long jump in BGSU history. Amanda lives in the area. She is an active member of Mt. Zion Church in Oakwood Village.

Rob Sims

Rob, a 2002 graduate of Nordonia High School earned 8 varsity letters and All-Conference honors while participating in football, basketball, and track. In football, Rob was a three-year starter earning 1st team All-Ohio honors his senior year. He earned a 90% blocking efficiency grade and had 60 knockdowns on offense while on defense he recorded 26 tackles, 6 sacks, and caused 5 fumbles. He was nominated to the ABJ, PD, and AP All-District teams his Jr. and Sr. seasons. Rob was an award winner at both the Akron and Columbus Buckeye Touchdown Clubs. His senior season he was ranked as the 15th best player in the

state. He was offered 32 Div. I scholarships and chose OSU to further his education and football career. At OSU he started 40 games, won 2 Big 10 championships and 1 National Championship. In 2006 he was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the 4th round. In basketball, Rob still holds the record for the best FG% in a season with 64%. He competed on the track team for two years earning All-Ohio honors his senior year by placing 4th at the state meet in the shotput with a throw of 56’8.5”. That distance is the 2nd best in school history. Rob currently is a starter for the Detroit Lions and lives with his wife Natalie and their two children Mikaella and Robert III in the Detroit area.

Aaron Smigelski

Aaron, a 2000 graduate of Nordonia earned 7 letters while competing in football and baseball. He was an All-Conference selection in both sports as well. In baseball his senior season Aaron was the team MVP, was the best pitcher on the staff and was one of the team captains. He led the team in most pitching categories including innings pitched (43), ERA (1.14), and strike outs per game (10.26). At the plate Aaron batted .363 with 17 RBI’s. Aaron still holds four passing records including most yards in a career (3,879), most passing attempts in a

career (516), most completions in a career (291), and most TD’s thrown in a career (34). After graduating from Nordonia, Aaron went on to play at Ohio University earning 3 varsity letters in baseball. He currently is a project manager for Onex Construction and resides in Aurora.
