SCULPTURERECLINING FEMALE FIGUREPETER RUBINOThe instructor will introduce you to his easy to follow, step-by-step system of blocking in the essential foundation of the figure in pose. He will show how to establish the proper proportion, position, and planes associated with the human form while creating a 24” to 36” reclining female figure with water-based clay.

Peter Rubino achieved international acclaim for his 12-foot historic monument “Mother of All Life,” which graces the Boyko Research Center at the Ben Gurion University of the Negev in Beer-Sheva, Israel. Other monuments include “Angel,” a 35-foot figure created for Disney Corporation and “Remembrance,” a national symbol and tribute to America’s fallen war heroes. Peter is the author of The Portrait in Clay and Sculpting the Figure in Clay.

JEWELRYINSPIRED BY NATURE: PATTERN CONSTRUCTION FOR JEWELRYSONDRA SHERMAN, Guest Instructor Levels: 2–3Students will learn how to develop patterns from nature forms and create those forms in thin sheet to add lightweight dimensional richness to jewelry. Pattern-making, guidance in making samples in “ jeweler's brass,” steel sheet construction, and tips for soldering complex compositions will be covered to create forms for finished pendants or earrings in the metal of choice (sterling, jeweler's brass, or mild steel). Prerequisites: Basic sawing, filing, and soldering skills.

Sondra Sherman is head of the Jewelry and Metalwork program at San Diego State University. She received the Diplom Degree (MFA) from the Academy of Fine Art in Munich, Germany. Sherman has been the recipient of many awards and her work is included in major museums in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Boston, and New York City.

HAND PAINTED DECORATIVE TILES FOR YOUR HOME AND GARDEN SUZI K EDWARDS, Guest Instructor Levels: All Ceramic tiles have been used for millennia to decorate the interiors and exteriors of buildings, including residences, apartment buildings, and commercial venues. Suzi will cover many techniques to paint glaze and kiln-fire bisque tiles including layering of underglazes, using complementary color palettes, and planning composition and design. Make a work that is suitable for kitchen backsplashes, bathrooms, tabletops, and anything else you can envision!

Eli Cedrone is an internationally recognized artist. She will provide beautiful, hand picked, specialty flowers from the area and from a West Palm Beach flower market. Spend the weekend learning about the execution of simple, yet impactful designs that are versatile, sophisticated, and eco-friendly. Bridget will share insider tips on design, local foraging, and floristry as you create unique floral arrangement to take home.

PROFESSIONAL PRACTICES FOR MAKERSWAYNE WERNER, Guest Instructor Levels: AllThis workshop is for all art makers and explores the reality of making a living as a craftsperson selling work from their studio and at craft and trade shows. This overview of the crafts business discusses everything from the time you fill out the application until the time you break down your booth. Wayne will cover application process, media category, sales tax, pricing, display, lighting, promo materials, fire and weather proofing, electricians unions, load in, indoor vs. outdoor, high end vs. street show, security issues, taking orders, credit cards, and all other issues that need to be considered when an artist decides to take their show on the road. Students are encouraged to ask any questions about professional practice. The class is designed to help students decide what is right for their business and what to expect in the crafts business.

Wayne Werner is a third generation metalsmith from Baltimore specializing in cold forging precious metals. Wayne has participated in over 250 high-end craft shows nationally and has received many awards including the World Gold Council’s Gold Distinction Award and the JMSA Vision award for Mokume-gane. Werner is a former instructor at the Fuji Studio in Florence, Italy, and has taught over 100 workshops at universities and craft schools.

This postcard workshop will give you the opportunity to turn your own images into postcards by using a unique process called cyanotype. Once complete, you can mail these postcards to friends and family all over the world.

This will be a fun and family-friendly afternoon in the sunshine! Bring your own white t-shirts (recommended - organic and sustainably sourced shirts from HAE Now).

S C H O O L P O L I C I E SThe Armory Art Center is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. The following policies and measures are in place so we can continue to

pursue our mission to inspire the creation and experience of art.

REFUNDSA non-refundable registration fee equal to 10% of the course tuition is included in each course registration, excluding one day workshops and Pop-Up Workshops. Students who withdraw from a course at least five (5) working days prior to the start of that course are eligible to receive a full tuition refund minus the registration fee. Students who withdraw from their course less than five (5) working days before the start of that course or once the course has started are not eligible for a refund. No refunds will be issued due to a student’s failure to attend class.

LIABILITYThe Armory will not assume liability for injuries that occur within the subject area where the student is enrolled. Upon registration for any course, the student assumes all reasonable liability from injuries related to the scope of the coursework being taught and releases the Armory Art Center from any liability claims related to any injuries and/or accidents that may occur. The student can be assured that every reasonable safety precaution is taken by the center. The Armory Art Center is not responsible for any artwork or personal items lost or stolen in the classrooms or lockers.

MEMBERSHIPMembers help to support the Armory. Only about half of the cost to run the art school comes from tuition and lab fees with the remainder of our budget needs coming in from contributions, grants, and fundraising events. We hope you will support the Armory by becoming a member and will enjoy the many benefits. See the member benefit program on www.armoryart.org to see which level is best for you and your family.

CANCELED OR MISSED COURSESThere are no make-up classes due to student illness, travel, or other reasons that are not the responsibility of the Armory Art Center. Students enrolled in courses which are canceled by the Armory due to lack of enrollment or instructor illness will receive a full refund. Every effort will be made to notify students at least 24 hours before the first class. The Armory reserves the right to substitute instructors for any of its classes at any time.

TRANSFERS In order to maintain the quality of instruction the transfer and proration policies have been changed. Students wishing to transfer from

one course to another in the same session may do so prior to the second meeting of the course and only if space is available in class. If you do not attend a class, the Armory must still pay the teacher; therefore, classes paid for but not attended are not eligible for transfer or refund.

DISCOUNTSPalm Beach County teachers receive a 20% discount on classes with proof of school ID. Youth (ages 14 - 18) receive a 20% discount on tuition for adult classes. We offer a 20% discount off any adult class college students. Lab or material fees are excluded. Please present valid student ID.

MULTIPLE COURSE DISCOUNT:A multiple course discount cannot be combined with any other discount. This discount only applies to 4 and 8 week classes. This discount does not apply when classes are pro-rated.• Adult students will receive a 20% discount

on the tuition of additional courses (of equal of lesser value, exclusive of studio time, lab fees, model fees, or cost of materials purchased at the Armory) in the same session for the same student.

• Parents of Summer Art Experience students receive 10% off adult classes during Sessions 5 & 6 only.

• Students registering for Summer Art Academy will receive a 10% discount toward any Summer Art Experience class.

• South Florida Basket and Fiber Arts Guild members get 20% off fiber classes. Not applicable for Pop-Up Workshops.

• Ceramics League of Palm Beach County members get 20% off Master Artists Workshops. Proof of membership required.

PHOTOGRAPHYThe Armory Art Center reserves the right to photograph classes and events for use in marketing and public relations efforts on behalf of the Armory.

ADDITIONAL STUDENT OPEN STUDIO TIMEOpen studio time is available to students enrolled in a three-hour, four or eight-week course in the current session and within the department in which they are enrolled (e.g. ceramics studio is available to ceramics students). Studio time is purchased in four or eight week increments; please refer to the current catalog for current rates. The hours of open studio time are specific to each
