The Day Thou Gavest
The day Thou gavest, Lord, is ended,The darkness falls at Thy behest;
To Thee our morning hymns ascended,Thy praise shall sanctify our rest.
As o’er each continent and islandThe dawn leads on another day,
The voice of prayer is never silent,Nor dies the strain of praise away.
The sun that bids us rest is wakingOur brethren ‘neath the western sky,
And hour by hour fresh lips are makingThy wondrous doings heard on high.
So be it, Lord; Thy throne shall never,Like earth’s proud empires, pass away;Thy Kingdom come, to stand for ever,
When all the earth shall own Thy sway.

A Rose Shall Bloom
A rose shall bloom in a lonely place,A wild shall echo with sounds of joy;
For heav’n’s own gladness its bounds shall grace,And forms angelic their songs employ.
The blind shall see, and the deaf shall hear,The dumb shall raise their notes for him;
The lame shall leap like the unharmed deer,And the thirsty shall drink of the living stream.
The ransomed of God shall return to HimWith a chorus of joy to a gladsome lay;No eye with a tear of grief shall be dim,For sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
