The Story of God at Work in Your Life
You have a faith story. Yes, I mean you. God is at work in all of our lives. As we
look back at our lives, there is a story of how our faith has been formed. Our faith stories
are all unique. This Lent, our theme is Exploring Our Faith Story. Starting March 4, at
each mid-week Wednesday worship service, the message will center around stories and
questions to help you reflect on your own faith story and how God has been at work in your
life. We will explore the following themes:
March 4: Learning Who God Is
March 11: Those Who Formed Our Faith
March 18: Experiences of Uncertainty and Doubt
March 25: Dwelling with God
April 1: Where God is Calling You Next
While each worship service is a time of self-reflection, I hope this self-reflection will lead
to conversation and sharing what you have learned with others. This is a great opportunity
to open up conversations about faith with spouses, friends, or children. I personally would
love to hear what you learn in this process. I led a project on faith storying telling at my in-
ternship site in La Crosse, WI. It was a moving experience to hear people tell their own
faith stories. No story was the same. Nobody had everything all together in their faith life
either. Exploring your own faith story is a judgement free zone. There is no expectation
your story should be in a certain place or go a certain way. It is your story and experience
of God in your life.
Peace be the journey this Lenten season. I hope you will be able attend as we gather
on Wednesday nights in worship and explore the story of God at work in our lives.

March is National Professional Social Workers Month
March is National Professional Social Workers Month, a time to recognize social workers and thank them for all they do. At Lutheran Services in Io-wa (LSI), we’re grateful for the many social workers who have dedicated their lives to serving our communities across the state!
Maybe you’ve never had a social worker involved in your life. Yet, whether you realize it or not, you’ve had the benefit of their behind-the-scenes work in your community. Social workers help people help themselves in overcoming life’s most difficult circumstances or managing challenges of everyday living: poverty, abuse, mental illness, depression, addiction, dis-ability, and many other situations.
Iowa wouldn’t be the same without the patience, guidance, and empower-ment that social workers provide. Happy National Professional Social Work Month!
Our Mission: Lutheran Services in Iowa responds to the love of Jesus Christ through compassionate service. LSI is an affiliated social ministry partner of the Iowa congregations of the ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) and a member of LSA (Lutheran Services in America). We proudly serve people of all ages, abilities, religions, sexes, gender identities, national origins, ethnicities, races, and sexual orientations. Learn more at www.LSIowa.org and www.facebook.com/LSI.iowa.
Caring for Christopher
When Christopher struggled with crippling anxiety at a young age, his mom, Cheyenne, didn’t know where to turn. Even going on a simple trip to the grocery store was almost impossible. She knew something needed to change.
That change came in the form of LSI’s Behavioral Health Intervention Services. Each week, Christopher’s BHIS worker, Jose, visited the family in their home or met with them at the local library. He brought activities to engage Christopher and help him develop the coping skills he needed to feel better when he left the house. And at the same time, he provided words of encouragement and helpful parenting tips Cheyenne could use to help her child.
Christopher recently celebrated his seventh birthday, and his confidence continues to grow. He feels more comfortable going out in public. He has graduated out of LSI services, and he recently made a new friend all on his own.
Cheyenne feels confident that even on the tough days, she has the knowledge she needs to help her child thrive, thanks to Jose.
“LSI gave us the tools we needed to help him succeed, and the reassurance that we were doing the right thing, even when it was hard,” she says.

Hearing none, Diane asked for a motion to accept the Secretary’s report. Steph made the motion, Clint seconded –

Treasurer’s Report: Steph presented the Treasurer’s report, not much fluctuation. Question about the virtual organ
was asked of worship and music. An extra line item should be added to the executive board budget to accommodate
this. Steph will check with Jaacks where this should go.
November receipts down slightly. Paul Krull made the motion to accept the Treasurer’s report, Jane seconded – mo-
tion carried.
Checking: $32,262.96 Savings: $35,321.91 CD: $25,681.41
Pastor’s Report: Dan requested all boards prepare their annual reports in anticipation of the annual meeting and get

how proposed and approved by church council. This idea will be shared with Al and Larry.
ST. P AUL LUTHERAN C HURCH P AGE 7
New Business:
Annual Meeting: A date needs to be set. Pastor Dan said that traditionally that it is the third Sunday in January.
Marcus made the motion to make the annual meeting on 1/19/20, Jane seconded – motion carried.
Synod Assembly 2020- Bishop’s Election: (June 12-14- Wartburg College) – Pastor Dan shared details about the
upcoming synod assembly. This year there will be a bishop’s election, as the current bishop is retiring. The Synod
prepared a profile with regards to the bishop’s election. We are mostly a rural synod overall. Key survey findings
that 2/3 of the congregations don’t feel it is possible to thrive in 5 years. The profile identified the skills for the next
bishop: a strong visionary, caring and personable with strong communication, willing to initiate conversations about
the nature of the ELCA, strong understanding of rural ministries, justice and ecumenical partnerships.
Question for the council is whether to ask for volunteers at the annual meeting or whether the council would like be
more intentional about the process so as to consider people who might not be at the meeting. Pastor Dan expressed
it is important the congregational delegates be invested and involved in the bishop election process. From the church
council Marcus and Diane expressed interest in being delegates. It will be presented at the annual meeting and other
volunteers will be solicited. If there are more than two people interested, then it will be voted on at the annual meet-
ing.
Diane asked for a motion to adjourn. Steph made the motion, Jane seconded – motion carried.
Meeting closed with the Lord’s Prayer.
Meeting adjourned at 8:10 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Susan Wulf Flint
