17.03.16 | 5
Do I need to seek recogni:on before I apply for admission to higher educa:on or voca:onal educa:on in Norway? àNormally NO. Recogni:on is part of the admission procedure.
The purpose of recogni6on: • To make it easier for people with foreign qualifica6ons to find work.
• To make it easier for poten6al employers to assess the level of a foreign job applicant’s educa6on.
• Consistent gageing of salary/wages when hired.
• Ensure that those who work in regulated professions are properly qualified.
• To help you find out if you need further educa6on.

Recogni6on of higher educa6on Two important categories: 1. Professions that are regulated by law. 2. Professions that are NOT regulated by
law.

Recogni6on of higher educa6on Non-‐regulated professions
Some examples of non-‐regulated professions: engineer, social worker, economist, geologist, journalist, manager, musician, architect, ar6st…

General recogni6on from NOKUT
• NOKUT’s general recogni6on is meant for the Norwegian labor market for non-‐regulated professions.
• General recogni6on is not a subject-‐specific recogni6on.
• System-‐based evalua6on of higher educa6on creden6als: ü Level ü Scope ü Degree
• Example: «The degree is recognized as 3 years of higher educa4on / 180 (Norwegian) credits, and equivalent to an accredited Norwegian Bachelor’s degree»
«The degree is recognized as 1 year of higher educa4on / 60 (Norwegian) credits on Master level»
