BACKGROUND
CRIDA’s NAIP project on “Sustainable rural livelihoods through enhanced farming systems productivity and efficient support systems in rainfed areas”
Efforts are made in the project to open the avenues for technology and information access and utilization in the rural areas to the clientele.
One of the specific objectives of the project is “Capacity building and skill development of primary and secondary stakeholders through knowledge sharing, collective action and use of modern ICTs”.

METHODOLOGY
ICTs reach and access to rural masses is planned through establishment of KSC ( Knowledge Share Centres).
Envisage the access to value added information on latest tools and technologies of agriculture & services for improving the rural livelihoods.
Facilitates the sharing of data, information and the collective knowledge gleaned from research, experiences and interaction with cluster partners
Broad objectives in establishing KSC
•To share the knowledge to support extension and outreach activities of CRIDA
•To supplement experts advisory services
•To strengthen the capacity of farmers, local institutions and CBOs etc,.
•To enhance access to research documents and manage useful knowledge resources through distribution and promotion of the knowledge that resides within the CRIDA

Information access through touch screen kiosks,
Queries addresal system through Interactive voice enquiry system, IVRS,
and Display announcement system (DAS) for farmers who visit the kiosk are the essential features of the KSC

Touch screen kiosks , the unique, interactive toolsfor one stop access to need based ,individual specific information to cater the needs of individual or very small group of farmers with minimum literacy standards
Kiosk allows users to navigate for information on Crops cultivation practices, plant protection measures andmarket information etc,.
Display announcement system DAP
Communication media to address the needs of medium to largegroup of audience.
The display system { TV monitor )with LCD screen is connected to data input computer.
It displays the information with voice input which can servethe needs of illiterate farmers.
Used to screen the films that create awareness of the improved technologies .
A computer is attached to DAP would facilitate to watch videos,or locate resources for eg., like finding additional info
IVRS
Pre recorded voice files guide the caller to avail the information
An IVRS is being installed for answering to the farmers’ queries.
It is to cater the needs of illiterate farmers farmers who could not come to market yardfarmers of other cluster villages.
Farmer can avail the information with one call from the place wherever he is.
Conclusions
From KSC it is expected to increase the ability of individuals to take decision for immediate action which needs priority.
It would be ensured that the information which is disseminated through caters the real need of farmers , is easily accessible, and contributes to a fuller understanding of the development issues being faced by the stakeholders
CRIDA NAIP SRL3 ICT initiative is envisaged as a service that can harnesses technology to enhance livelihoods and skills for rural prosperity The initiative will fulfill the need to access to ICT to make available to the people a technology if not at their door-step but at least at a place which they visit frequently.
It also provides understanding on factors controlling / constraints identified for the use of ICTs among rural communities
