Pylon Types1. Type A pylons are located in below-grade and above

3. Type B pylons are located only on the street level and indicate station entrances. They are bronze with porcelain enamel line and station designations; the Metro symbol is backlit white acrylic.
4. Type C pylons are located in below-grade center platform stations. Air conditioning vents and/or lighting are incorporated into these pylons.
5. Type D pylons are located outside station entrances near entrance doors.

Symbol/Logo Type Combination “B” and Construction Grid
This symbol/logotype is not interchangeable with combination “A”; it should be used only when it is to be the same color as the field to which it is applied, or when the material of the field itself does not allow for the use of combination “A”.
The logotype is the word “metro” in Helvetica Medium lower case. The two approved versions of this symbol, positive and negative, are shown on this page along with the standard construction grid.

Directional Arrow and Grid
The Arrow has been developed for all directional guidance. It may be used in any one of eight attitudes as shown below to indicate the appropriate path of travel in the Metro System. It shall always shown within a circle of contrasting color. A three-inch size is utilized in combination with the handicapped symbol. A five-inch size is utilized for graphics within Stations. A six-1/2inch size is utilized for station site graphics.

The symbols shown are currently used throughout the Metro rail system. The symbols are not all inclusive.

System Line Identification
A five-inch disc size is utilized to indicate the color-coded line designation.
A one-inch disc size is utilized to indicate the transfer points in the Station Ahead lists on Station pylons.
A 1-1/4 inch disc size is utilized to indicate the transfer points in the Station Ahead lists on vertical line graphics. Positioning grids also follow:

System Line Color Identification
Each line in the Metro System shall be identified by a color. The line colors shall be shown with terminus station names, station lists, line transfer information, and on street level pylons.
The Pantone Matching System (PMS), the Munsell Color System, and the Federal Color Specification shall be used to identify all System colors. Finish shall always be high gloss. The Munsell color System shall be used for porcelain-enamel materials and the PMS colors shall be used for printed materials.

Additional Colors
The dark brown field on which the graphics are illustrated and the white for the graphic copy also serve as Metro identification colors. The following colors shall be used within the System on maps, safety signs, right-of-way graphics, parking and traffic signs, and restricted access graphics.
