In 1994, the first Family Medical Practice clinic was opened in Hanoi by Dr. Rafi Kot,
an Israeli physician who had arrived in Vietnam six years earlier to run health care
projects for minority tribespeople in the nation’s remote northern areas.
Noting the opportunity for a foreign-operated private medical service, Dr. Kot
stayed on to establish an operation that, over the next twenty years, expanded into
multiple locations in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Danang—with more to follow.
During that time, founder and CEO Dr. Rafi Kot built a team of qualified medical
practitioners, technicians, and other personnel ready to serve Vietnam’s local and
expat communities. His dedication in time and energy, along with that of his team
members, works toward providing excellence in medical diagnosis, care, and treatment
to all patients.
Dr. Rafi continues to work toward improving the lives of the nation’s underprivileged
communities. On several occasions he has closed the medical centers to lead his
administrative staff and medical team on charitable trips to impoverished mountainous
areas, in order to provide remote village communities with supplies and essential
treatments.

Family Medical Practice has grown from its original base in Hanoi to cover five
locations—with more planned to open in the near future. Outside of Hanoi, we
have three modern medical centers in Ho Chi Minh City and one in Danang. 2016
saw a new stage in FMP’s primary health care services with the launch of EMR
9999, Vietnam’s first comprehensive emergency medical response system.

EVACUATION SERVICES
Family Medical Practice has an experienced team of emergency escort
doctors, nurses and ground staff who safely and efficiently arrange air and
overland evacuations.
While we always try to treat our patients within Vietnam, in certain critical
situations we may opt for an air-assisted evacuation service to one of the best
medical facilities in our neighboring countries.
When we decide to evacuate a patient, Family Medical Practice takes care of
all the details to remove as many complications as possible for the patient.
We liaise directly with your health insurance company, arrange ground or air
transportation, and use an extensive referral system of leading specialists.
We can reach anywhere in Vietnam, no matter where you are—whether it’s a
city, border area, or the remote highlands. We can guarantee hospital beds
in our neighboring regional hospitals—or to your home country, depending
on the circumstances.
Dr. Rafi Kot is the medical coordinator for Vietnam Airlines’ foreign-employed
crews, and through this association, Family Medical Practice is able to arrange
commercial stretcher services with Vietnam Airlines and most major airlines at
short notice and have immediate exclusive access to an Air Ambulance.

In 2016, Family Medical Practice launched our Saigon-based emergency
response service EMR 9999—the only one of its kind in Vietnam, styled after
911 in the USA. A 24/7 professional emergency response team is available on call
to offer medical guidance and instruction over the phone that begins the second
a call is made, backed up by a fleet of ultra-modern ambulances equipped with
life-sustaining ICU capacities and manned by professional teams who maintain
a constant telemedicine communications link with the alarm center and the
emergency teams in the medical center.
Available in English and Vietnamese languages to all callers, EMR 9999 offers
families, institutions, and individuals an immediate solution to any crisis situation
where advanced medical attention is crucial to survival.
The idea for the EMR 9999 service began when Family Medical Practice decided
to upgrade its ambulance fleet in line with international ambulance standards. At the
time, FMP’s management team realized the lifesaving impact that these ambulances
could make on the local community, and decided to work towards establishing a
privately-owned emergency medical transport system for the whole of Vietnam.
The launch of EMR 9999 represents the first phase of that journey.

THE IMPORTANCE OF
HEALTH INSURANCE
No matter how long you’re staying in Vietnam, medical insurance is essential.
Your insurance should cover both you and your family for outpatient services,
but more importantly for inpatient, evacuation and repatriation services. We
recommend that you arrange your medical insurance before you arrive in
Vietnam.
CASHLESS DIRECT BILLING
Family Medical Practice has established agreements with a number of international
and local insurance providers. This enables us to claim directly from the insurance
company on your behalf. In these cases, you will not have to pay cash upfront for
your treatment—our specialist staff will take care of all the paperwork associated
with the claim process. For a list of our direct billing partners, please refer to our

Family Medical Practice will not proceed with cashless direct billing without a
valid payment scheme form being completed. Bear in mind that you are still liable
for the total amount until it is settled in full by your insurance company.
*Note: Direct billing is for inpatient and outpatient services. A guarantee of payment
may be required by your insurance company to use the direct billing service.

Customers are required to complete
our payment scheme form upon
registration. This requires patients to
present a valid credit card. If any
amounts are declined or excluded
by the insurance company, our
specialist will notify patients of any
shortfall. Patients are asked to settle
the outstanding amount within 48
hours, failing which, we will then
debit the amount to the credit card.
All payment scheme information is
treated as highly confidential.
