Here are some tips to ensure you are buying the correct number of copies with

your McNaughton Plans.

A quick note on multiple copies There’s a time and a place for multiple copies of the same book. This tutorial is intended to give you some tips and tricks so that you’re getting the correct number of copies for your library. We’re not saying you CAN’T buy multiple copies with your McNaughton points. We’re only saying that you should pay attention to ensure you’re spending your points correctly. You CANNOT get points back by returning things you ordered in error. You are responsible for your spending habits.

The basics of list view ordering.

From the list view (we’re on brief display in this example) you have the option to add titles to your list. 1. On the 1st line we’ve place our cursor BEHIND the zero and entered

a 1 – so we’re ordering 1 copy of “Unleashed”. When we navigate away from the box it’ll go from 01 1.

2. On the 2nd line we’ve highlight the zero to ensure that when we do hit the “1” key it’ll be just 1 copy of “Book of the Dead”.

3. On the 3rd line we’ve placed our cursor IN FRONT of the zero and entered a 1 – so we’re ordering 10 copies of “I Totally Funniest”.

A quick double check.

When you hit “Apply” to add those first three titles to your list the “QTY” returns to zero.

You know your titles are on the list by the red “transaction complete” at the top left, the green “L” tiles next to the titles indicating “On List”, and the active list information at the top right has been updated.

Your first line of defense against the accidental duplicate is the Active List information. See how we have 3 Titles ordered but 12 Items?! This is a BIG indicator we’ve ordered duplicates. Click the list name to start de-duplicating your order.

Double check your list!

Please DOUBLE & TRIPLE check your list of selected materials before hitting “ORDER”!! Even if you have a LONG list of titles the Active List information at the top will give you an idea of how many possible duplicates you have listed. Do we REALLY need 10 copies of “I Totally Funniest”? It’s a pretty popular series but we can probably make do with 2. Highlight in the QTY box and then update the quantity as desired and hit “Apply”

That’s more like it!

We’ve updated “I Totally Funniest” to 2 copies. Again we know an action took effect as the red “Transaction Complete” shows at the top left and now our Active List info is showing 3 Title with 4 Items.

When you’re working within the active list your QTY column will always display the current quantities selected for the active list. You will NOT see the green “L” tile as you’re looking at the list to which the title has been added. To continue the demo we’ll click “I Totally Funniest” to ensure we’ve completed this series.

Title View from Active List

When we click a title from our Active List we’re taken to the “Title Detail” view of that title.

We have NOT left our Active List.

The details of the list are still displayed at the top right, the entry number and qty are displayed next to the title. The Order button would still process the ENTIRE list not just the title being view. Since we’re still in the active list we also won’t see the green “L” tiles which indicate if title is on another list.

This is the 3rd book in the series. Click the series link to see ensure we have the entire “I funny” series.

Series Search Results Do you already own it?

We’re now looking at Search Results. The blue text above the actions box indicates what type of screen you’re viewing (i.e. search or list)

Those green tiles will tell us if a book was: O – On a previous Order L – On an active List

That leaves “I Funny” as our missing volume in this series. There are two different versions of the same title. You’ll need to watch for different version – deduplication feature like the tiles only work on the exact same version of a title.

Another tool in your fight against accidentally ordering multiple copies is to use the “Global Qty” feature.

If you type 1 in the Global Qty box above your displayed titles ALL of the quantities on the list will be changed to 1. All of the boxes will also be checked.

You’ll need to uncheck the boxes of those titles to which you do NOT want to apply an action – like “Add to List”.

See how line 3 is the only one with a checked box AND a QTY of 1. This will be the only title added to our “No More Dups” list.

Updating an Active List in Progress.

When an action has successfully been applied you’ll get the red “Transaction Complete” notification.

The QTY will reset to zero, and any tiles will appear next to the title effected by the action.

You’ll also see the Active List information alter to accommodate your changes. Now we have 4 Titles and 5 Items.

Click the Active List title to complete deduplication.

Give it a once over before ordering!

It is HIGHLY recommended that you give your List a second or even third look before hitting order. If you regularly work in the Expanded or Title Detail display, try the Brief display (shown above) it’s a good way to quickly browse the titles and quantities on your list. You can even use the Global QTY box on your list view to ensure you’re only selecting 1 copy of all the titles. If you make QTY changes make sure to “apply” the update before hitting “ORDER”.

Last Chance to Prevent an duplication.

When you hit “ORDER” you get one last chance to ensure everything is correct before your points are spent. You’ll see the list, number of titles (4) and number of items (5) in addition to how many allowances (or points 37) are being used. You’ll then see subscription details including how many total allowances (or points 22,493) you have available to use. This is the ONLY place you can see current point values. If we change our mind about that 2nd copy of “I Totally Funniest” we hit “Cancel” instead of submit.

Page 13: No More Dups

One last fix.

So at the last minute we’ve decided not to order a second copy of “I Totally Funniest”. We changed the quantity back 1 and “applied” our changes. Red “Transaction Complete” showing top left. All current quantities displayed as we’re on a list screen. And our Active List information is now showing 4 titles and 4 copies. Which means we have NO duplicates. We could complete the order at this point confident there are no accidental duplicates.

Before you place an order, ensure: • You paid attention to the green L and O tiles so

you have not duplicated books on other orders and lists.

• You compared the number of titles to the number of items on your list and they’re relatively even.

• You’ve used all the quantity tools and update features to ensure you’re getting 1 copy not 10, 11 or 111 copies.

• Your list has been double & triple checked before hitting SUBMIT on the order screen.

You are responsible for ensuring that your points are spent accurately. You will not be reimbursed for errors.
