The heat exchanging boxcooler is one of the main components of a

ship. When it fails, going in dry dock is mostly the only solution:

these maintenance costs are high.

Harsonic® for Boxcoolers equipped

A seagoing vessel, like the l’Astrolabe icebreaker, needs a lot of

cooling. This is realised by bringing cold seawater into the open

chest of the boxcoolers. A boxcooler is a pipe bundle which is

continuously in direct contact with the seawater. So boxcoolers

are potential victims of marine fouling. Barnacles, mussels, al-

gae etc. grow on the tubes. And this affects the heat exchange

in a very negative way. HARSONIC® transducers kill the biofilm

wich is the breeding ground for the disastrous fouling.
