No 14 Wednesday 22nd May 2019 KFPS News Education Week started with a bang this week, as we held our Special Assembly on Monday. It was great to see so many parents/carers brave the chilly morning. It was lovely watching our Foundation students present their musical item with so much confidence. Later in the Assembly, our current dance group did their live dance, a very upbeat version of wheels on the bus”. Well done Mrs Dellow and good luck for next weeks Choir competition on Friday, I am sure the choir will do their very best and represent KFPS with pride. Open classrooms attracted some special visitors to check out our students work and then we were back in the gym celebrating our Teddy Bears Picnic. Thank you to all the parents who sent their children to school with their teddy bear entry. We are so lucky to have our excellent Gym facility to hold these events. Yesterday we had prospective 2020 parents join us to do a school tour and / or come for the evening to our Foundation Information session. We had three families that chose to do both! I was especially proud of our school, when a parent commented that he was impressed by how quiet it was in our classrooms and how every class was focused on their work. What a tremendous compliment for both our students and teachers! If you know of any Foundation students for 2020 whose parents were unable to come for a tour, please let them know that we are happy to run tours at other times. It is scary just how quickly the year is flying past. On Friday we have our School Council approved pupil free day to enable our teachers to participate in a Spelling Masterclass here at KFPS. This professional development (PD) will further embed our Soundwaves program across the school. We also are hosting teachers from Maiden Gully PS who are undertaking this PD with us. A reminder to our Grade 5 students to be at school early on Monday 27 th ready for your Melbourne based excursion to Science works and the Star Wheel. I know that you will have an amazing day! It will also be an opportunity for you to hear about Mrs Saddlier s overseas adventure, as she is participating in this excursion. We are all looking forward to having her back on deck next week, sharing her travel stories with us all. Welcome back Mrs Saddlier! Have a tremendous week ahead, Faye KFPS is launching the Resilience, Rights, and Respectful Relationship Program on Friday the 31 st of May Studentsand their families are invited to join us for a community breakfast from 8:15 a.m., followed by performances and special guests at assembly from 9:00 a.m. Our assembly which will highlight some fantastic work being undertaken in our classrooms in 2019. RRRR In Action; In Grade 3/4 we have been learning about teamwork and what specific skills teams need to be successful. We have brainstormed situations where we might need to use teamwork skills in the classroom, yard and at home. In the coming weeks we will be investigating personal strengths. Students will identify their own personal strengths, strengths they use every day and set goals to develop their strengths. This term we also began a Mindfulness Journal. In their Mindfulness Journals, students will write about the thoughts, feelings and experiences in their heads and hearts. I know students are looking forward to sharing their journals with their families at the end of the year.

Wow, I cannot believe it is already week 5, this term is just flying by. In music we have looked at many different things, our foundation students have been practising rhythm through learning rests and they even did a fantastic performance at our assembly on Monday. The one/two students have been looking at dynamics and learning new fun music games to practise their skills. The three/four classes are now well underway on their recorders. Our five/six students have looked at bucket drumming and the form within music. This week I have decided to showcase the grade six classes who re-wrote the lyrics to the American Author’s song ‘Best day of my life’ with the intention of selling a red bike. If you can get the tune in your head these are great to sing-a-long to and appreciate all the hard work put in by our fantastic students.

Lateness Please ensure your child is at school for the start of the day. It is hard not to notice the number of students arriving late each morning. School commences at 8:50am. In classrooms on most days, students begin with the Literacy Block. One hour of Reading and one hour of Writing. Time missed is not time that can be reclaimed. Being late to school will impact student’s learning. Being punctual is an important life skill also.

With great pleasure last Friday, we celebrated the enormous contribution that Education Support (ES) staff make to our Kfps community. ES staff were wel-comed to a special breakfast, assembly and morning tea. A number of our ES staff were unable to be present on Friday, and we thank them for their important work. Thank you to the student leaders; Sky, Dakota, Miah, Alyssa, Cooper and Lara,

that were so happy to welcome and serve our ES staff on Friday morning, practising and developing skills as they waited on our special ‘customers.’ We also had Makayla and Keeley help run the office, to enable our office staff to attend. Our ES support teachers and students in the classroom learning program, and our recess spaces. We also have ES run the day to day opera-tions in the office and school, tending to the financial, administration, Occupation-al Health and Safety, First Aid, Library and

Student Safety & Wellbeing Concerns

Arrival times: Parents are asked to ensure their students do not arrive at school before 8:30am unless attending Breakfast Club on Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays from 8:20am. Our students are encouraged to wait in the amiptheatre until 3.10pm if they are waiting for an older sibling from Crusoe. This will help eliminate the congestion near Crusoe. Children waiting for the bus are reminded to show respect to others and wait safely for the bus to arrive. We wish to thank our Crossing Supervisor, Peter, for keeping our students safe and for assisting any children who need help.
