Learning and growing together: You may have seen this once or twice before. In fact it’s the school’s motto and is something which I would like to focus on for a few moments especially at the beginning of a new school year. In a nut shell- ‘...it encompasses the close knit community, the family spirit, the quality of ‘smallness,’ and the exemplary secular education based upon Christian principles, which is greatly valued within the school.’ Let’s unpack the definition a little: Close knit community: this occurs when people constructively work together for the good of our children, and this includes parents, staff, grandparents, parents, congregational members, friends and other community members. During the break, I saw people at school, cleaning, watering, mowing, painting, planning and preparing. To be close knit, we need to be working together towards a common goal and that goal is to help our children to learn and grow to be positive contributors of the community. Family spirit: I am reminded of a Robin Mann song, ‘One Family we’re together...’ God’s family encompasses everyone here at Tarrington- we are one family in Christ. Our own families are very special and when we put them altogether by working and learning together, we then have that spirit of family. Quality of ‘smallness’: we are a small school of just over 100 students and have been small for 165 years with numbers fluctuating from year to year. Many great things have been achieved during the school’s extensive history because our aim is for quality. Exemplary secular education based upon Christian principles: our school is unique because we offer an excellent education in an environment where God’s love for all of us underpins all that we do here at school. While we educate we integrate and promote the values for living in community which are- love, justice, compassion, forgiveness, service, courage, humility, hope, quality and appreciation. The school clean which took place last Saturday is an excellent example of the school community working together to make our school look the part at the start. Thank you to our coordinators, Roy and Dianne Fox for overseeing the clean and for the diligent manner in which they did this. This Friday 3 rd February, the Parents and Friends Association (PFA) are holding their annual Welcome BBQ. PFA’s new Chairperson, Danielle Thomas, is looking forward to greeting and welcoming you. Please be reminded to bring along chairs, drinks, and salad or sweet to share. This is a wonderful opportunity to get together and welcome each other for the start of a new school year. For our new families, it is particularly a special time to meet and greet. Next Wednesday evening, the school is holding a Parent Information Night beginning at 7pm. Attending this event will allow you to get a better understanding of what will be happening in your child’s classroom this year. It is also a very good opportunity to get to meet your child’s teacher and begin establishing a partnership which is vital for your child’s positive development. May we learn and grow together this new year with the knowledge that God is by our side guiding and helping us on our journey. I look forward to catching up at the BBQ on Friday night!
