Teen Donderdag is hy ontslaan en ontvang tans behandeling by Mediclinic in Lephalale.

"Never would we have thought something so terrible would happen to us. Losing our children, grandchildren, niece and nephew ripped into the core of our family and made us realise just how precious life and every single moment with loved ones are.

"Our journey in healing is far from over but your prayers and support carries us in such a tangible way that we are able to stand strong in this difficult time.

We miss our little angels so much and they will always be loved by not only us but all of you that opened your hearts in com-passion and care."

PHAHLADIRA – A planned complex in this area will provide at least 350 permanent jobs once completed in September 2016.

The mayor of Lephalale, Jack Maeko (photo right), attended a sod turning event for the proposed Phahladira Town Centre, 43km North East of Lephalale on the R518 last week.

The planned complex will provide 60 000 residents in this district with much needed retail facilities. Phase 1 of the new development will comprise of a 7000m2 complex, anchored by a 2800m² Shoprite Supermarket.

Fernridge research indicates that there is R16-million groceries-spend in this node, but that the nearest supermarket is 40km away. Phahladira Town Centre will cater to

LIMPOPO - Advertisements for abortions are glued onto various traffic lights, power boxes and even waste skips around Lepha-lale and Mokopane are not only an eye sore, but can also pose serious health risks for the women who decide to make use of these services.

In a recent CPF meeting warrant officer Frans Mokoena, the spokesperson for Lep-halale SAPS, said that it is difficult to appre-hend the people who are undergoing illegal abortions. “As with any other crime we have to have enough evidence before an arrest can be made.”

Women who had illegal abortions are usually not willing to speak up about their experience and are reluctant to provide infor-mation to the police.

Religious and moral objections (pro-life vs pro-choice beliefs) also come into play. Woman are afraid of being judged for their decision to abort.

The emotional repercussions of an abor-tion should not be overlooked. According to an article by dr Marietjie van Rooyen, a senior lector at the University of Pretoria’s faculty of family medicine (The prevalence of post-abortion syndrome in patients present-ing at Kalafong hospital’s family medicine clinic after having a termination or pregnan-cy published on 15 Augustus 2014) a large group of women have emotional side-effects

LEPHALALE - Resource Generation Limited (ResGen), which is planning to mine one of SA's largest remaining coal deposits outside Lephalale, has received a signed Memo-randum of Understanding from HAB & JPR Privée, a Swiss private company, to provide in principle funding of EUR480-million to enable construction of Boikarabelo mine.

HAB & JPR Privée has indicated that if there is a change of directors it reserves the right to cancel the loan facility. This follows the decision by Altius Investment Holdings, an associate of Noble Group, to requisition a general meeting to replace ResGen's board with its own nominees. Altius has been work-ing with Noble Group to structure debt fund-ing, as part of a club of SA financiers, that would result in a substantial transfer of value

this under-served catch-ment area, addressing food, fashion and furniture needs in the area; and saving resi-dents signifi-cant trans-port costs.

In addi-tional to the recreational benefits the construction of the Phahladira Town Centre complex will also translate into job opportunities for local residents.

Adverts for abortions a major concernafter a pregnancy was terminated.

Insomnia, irritation, depression, suicidal thoughts and guilt are some of the most common emotions with which these women struggle.

According to Emily Molokomme, spokes-person for the Lephalale district hospital, women should remember that any medical procedure that is not done by a qualified medical practitioner can be dangerous.

“Patients can rupture their uterus, hemorrhage or contract a sepsis infection that can claim the woman’s life.”

While Molokomme does not advocate abortions, she says that the hospital is equipped to do safe and sterile abortions.

“People should take responsibility for their lives and use contraceptions if they are sexually active and don’t want to become pregnant.”

At the hospital the woman who wants to have an abortion will be seen by a doc-tor, social worker and hospital sister before she is given pills to terminate the pregnancy. “These services are free of charge and there is no reason why women should have illegal and dangerous procedures done by unquali-fied people.”

“In Lephalale only the district hospital is authorised to do abortions and according to law it can only be done up to 12 weeks after the last menstrual cycle.”

EUR480m funding for Boikarabelo minefrom the company’s shareholders and its BEE partner to the financiers.

Resgen MD Paul Jury said: ‘We are pleased, after a protracted process of seeking funding in a difficult market for coal projects, to have achieved in principle agreement for funding to enable all the remaining phases of the mine construction and its social labour programs to be completed.”

HAB & JPR Privée's decision to fund con-struction of the Boikarabelo mine has been driven by its desire to work with ResGen which it sees as a company that is socially responsible, attentive to the environmental impact of its projects and sensitive to the lo-cal community, as well as observing the high-est health and safety standards to protect its workers and the general population.

MOKOPANE – The Thuto-Lesedi Foundation (Thulefo), together with social workers from the Aletuke centre in Moshate, celebrated Heritage Day. They held an aware-ness campaign and the theme was “Drugs and substance abuse, not my culture.”

MOKOPANE - Patrick Sekhu, a co-accused in the Charles Mgidi murder’ second bail application that continued in the Mokopane Magistrate Court on Wednesday was again denied by the magistrate.

Sekhu returned to court with advocate Molepo to re-apply for bail based on new facts after magistrate Swanepoel also reject-ed his bail application earlier this year.

The 55-year-old Patrick Sekhu and his co-accused, Samuel Matjila (55) and Des-mond Machaba (48) were arrested in April and face charges of murder on driving school owner, Charles Mgidi who died after being shot. The killing was the result of an argu-ment at the Caltex Garage (cnr. Nelson Man-dela & Thabo Mbeki) between the victim and the accused men.

In a bail application for a schedule six of-fence, the accused has to prove exceptional circumstances to be released from custody. Sekhu’s legal representative at the time did not convince the magistrate of such circum-stances during his first bail application.

Despite his advocate’s argument that his client is suffering a huge financial losses and the non-operation of his businesses resulting

Mbombela (Nelspruit) of eMalahleni (Wit-bank) gesteel nie.

Ook Lydenburg, Ermelo, Chrissiesmeer, Breyton, Dullstroom, Hendrina, Amsterdam, Piet Retief, Barberton, Sabie, Carolina, Secunda, Graskop, Standerton en Evander het volgens die polisie se misdaadsyfers nié onder veediewe deurgeloop nie.

Genl.maj.

Mgidi case: bail application denied

Murder co-accused Patrick Sekhu appears confident in court for his bail application based on new facts.

in a lack of income for his wife and children, Sekhu’s second attempt to be released for bail, again did not prove to be exceptional. He will remain in custody and is expected to appear on 4 November where he and his co-accused's trial will continue.

BUSHVELD - Conservation organisation WWF South Africa and international NGO ICLEI are calling on Lephalale and Moko-pane to enter the 2015-16 Earth Hour City Challenge.

The Earth Hour City Challenge is a year-long competition among cities and towns around the world to promote renewable en-ergy and prepare for climate change.

Cities and towns that participate by com-peting for the title of South African national Earth Hour Capital - as well as the Global Earth Hour Capital – are recognised for their efforts in spreading the global movement to create more sustainable, resilient cities.

Now in its third year, WWF SA and ICLEI Africa are pleased that the 2015-2016 com-petition will include a national round catering to the potential that secondary municipalities present in the journey towards a low-carbon future. “Municipalities, such as Lephalale and Mogalakwena, enter by creating a profile on the carbon Climate Registry to capture the municipality’s climate actions. This under-

Ready for earth hour challenge taking could also serve as a data repository exercise for all the municipalities’ sustainable initiatives,” explains Steven Bland, project manager, ICLEI-Africa.

“The entries will be evaluated by an in-ternational consultancy outside of the formal global competition, but will also provide feed-back to municipalities in moving forward. A panel of national partners will use this evalu-ation to determine the national winner.”

“Participating municipalities will also be invited to a capacity building workshop, with the view of enhancing municipal under-standing of renewable energy installations to maximise its benefits,” says Louise Scholtz, Manager: Special Projects at WWF SA. “The winning municipality will also get a free pre-feasibility assessment from Stellenbosch Uni-versity’s Centre for Renewable and Sustain-able Energy Studies (CRSES), empowering them to move towards a low-carbon future.”

LIMPOPO - Ivanhoe Mines Limited, the University of Limpopo in SA and Laurentian University in Canada signed an agreement recently launching an educational collabora-tion between the two universities.

The collaboration, initiated and sponsored by Ivanhoe’s South African subsidiary, Ivan-plats, was celebrated at a signing ceremony on the University of Limpopo campus attend-ed by officials from Laurentian University, the University of Limpopo, Ivanhoe and the SA and Canadian governments.

A principal goal of the five-year partner-ship, which is renewable for a further five years, is to develop and equip the University of Limpopo’s geology department to become a centre of excellence in geosciences. This will be achieved through measures that include: improved training and curriculum choices in economic geology and mineral exploration at the University of Limpopo; increased teaching and research capacities at the graduate student level; equipping laboratories; purchasing an outdoor vehicle and trailer for field excursions; and collabo-rating with Laurentian University to improve the University of Limpopo’s learning pro-grammes.

Ivanplats will provide in-service training opportunities for students from both universi-ties and assist them in conducting research on the Northern Limb of the Bushveld Com-

Ivanhoe invests in Limpopoplex. Ivanhoe Mines, through Ivanplats, has allocated a total of US$2.5 million to the Limpopo and Laurentian universities to fund their partnership during its initial five years. In addition to Ivanhoe’s investment, Lauren-tian University, of Sudbury, Ontario, has been awarded C$500,000 in scholarship funds for the project through the Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship in Science and Tech-nology (QEII-GSST) Program.

Combined with a C$570,000 scholarship awarded to Laurentian by the International Development Research Corporation, these funds will create educational opportunities for 35 University of Limpopo students to study in Canada. Scholarship funding from the three sources will support under-gradu-ate, Master of Science (MSc) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) positions at Laurentian and be focused on topics and research in mineral exploration and economic geology. The QEII-GSST scholarship will fund up to 15 graduate students and faculty from the University of Limpopo to pursue MSc and PhD studies at Laurentian’s Department of Earth Sciences.

The funds will support a number of Lau-rentian’s graduate students to travel to Lim-popo for three-to-four-month internships over the course of the first five years of the fund-ing agreement with Ivanhoe. These advanced graduate students will teach and assist junior faculty at the University of Limpopo.

LIMPOPO - The future looks bleak for Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO’s) in the province as many organisation have come forward claiming that they have not received their monthly subsidies from the department of social development for a few months now.

The Department pays a monthly sub-sidy, which is disbursed quarterly. Recently these payments have stopped or are hope-lessly delayed.

“Sadly, children of this province, who have the potential of creating our nation-al wealth, to care and protect the country and its people are not cared for by the social development department,” said Katlego Su-zan Phala, Democratic Alliance (DA) MPL, to the Limpopo Provincial Legislature on 22 September during a snap debate on the de-partment of social development.

Several local NGO’s among others, The Mokopane Needs Forum, Thula-Thula Baba house and the Thobela House for the Dis-abled in Ga-Madikana are under huge finan-cial strain and could face closure due to late or non-payment from the department. Some old age homes are also suffering the lack of subsidies.

Many of them are dysfunctional, and if forced to shut down, they will leave elderly people homeless.

Social welfare centres serves the home-less, orphans, sexually abused, severely physically and mentally children and aban-

A spokesperson at a local facility in Mokopane confirmed that they have not received their subsidies for several months. Queries to the department of social development have gone unanswered.

Mokopane Needs Forum manager Eulogia de Wet says to survive the forum now focuses on educating beneficiaries to generate an income by supplying the necessary resources.

The DA states that the department owes three centres more than R629 375 including arrears since April 2013. A new quarter’s payment is now due as well.

“NGO’s were delivering services that the department itself was constitutionally and legally compelled to deliver,” said another centre manager who chose to remain anony-mous.

“Failure to pay subsidies on time, par-ticularly to these kind of centres where vulnerable children are involved, is both a contravention of the children’s Act and the Constitution, which both state that chil-dren have the right to dignity and the right to shelter,” said the DA.

The DA have reportedly sent requests to the MEC for Social Development, Joyce Mashamba and the Minister of Social Development, Bathabile Dlamini, to ur-gently investigate the delay, but claims it had not received any reply yet.

Hou jou troeteldiere dopkan veroorsaak.

The H2O News team spent some time getting to know Waterberg High School’s deputy principal, head of sports and the Grade 12 grade head, Mr Maeselane Seloane.

Q. How and when did you start teaching?

A. I started teaching in 1993 after completing my education studies at Se-roleng village in Zebediela at Meremotse Secondary School.

Q. What is interesting about teaching the learners of H20berg High School?

A. I think that the learners at Waterberg High School are generally amazing. Some are tenacious in their persistence not to fail.

My only negative comment would be that they sometimes make a mess and do not clean it up!

Q. What advice can you give those who want to follow in your footsteps?

Teachers' corner...... Mr Maeselane Seloane

A. My advice to those who want to follow in our footsteps as teachers, is that they must know that teaching children who are trying to find them-selves, is the battle of a lifetime.

I encourage young people to start thinking of becoming teachers - it’s a life changing profession.

Q. Do you enjoy teaching here?A. Definitely! I relate well

with the ethos of Waterberg High School.

I contribute to the dedica-tion, resilience and selflessness

and hard work of the whole staff of the school.

Q. What is the one wish that you would share with everyone concerning the learners of today?

A. Today’s learners are provided with an enormous amount of good opportunities and even better resources.

South Africa's democratic government ensures that all our learners are now equipped to reach new heights in skills and education.

We’ve got history!By: Mokgadi Tauatswala

Learners of Waterberg High School participated in an oral history competition held at the Mokopane EMPC on 9 September. Although the competition was tough and challenging, Lehutso Precious (Grade 9) and Mashaba Anthony (Grade 8) managed to impress the judges and finished first. Precious and Anthony define oral history as the recording, preservation and interpretation of information based on personal experiences and this nurtures the spirit of critical enquiry and assist the information of historical consciousness .

Casual Day has been celebrated for 18 years in SA and sees participants making a R10 donation for the casual day sticker. Not only does Casual Day raise funds, it also raises awareness of opportunities for the full inclusion of people with disabilities into the community. This year, the learners at Waterberg High School challenged each other to see which class could sell the most Casual day stickers. Grade 11 D sold the most stickers and raised a staggering R2000. With only weeks to go, Grade 11 D de-cided to challenge the rest of the school to see who could sell the most stickers. Under the leadership of Mrs M.M. Mabatamela and classmate Tumisang Babili, the Grade 11’s worked hard to win. To celebrate their success, the learners were treated to a day at Tibane Lodge outside Mokopane on 18 September.

Thembi Emily Mokgohloa is the pride of Waterberg High School after she was select-ed to represent the Limpopo cricket team.

"I started playing cricket in 2006 when one of the local coaches came to our school asking for children who wants to join their team," she says. "Since 2010 I have been chosen to play in the provincial u/16,u/19 and senior team."

"The interesting part of playing cricket for the province is that you travel a lot around the country and even as far as Namibia," she says, adding that there are many opportuni-ties to act as coach, empire or scorer.

There are also scolarship opportunities. "Being good at a sport doesn’t prevent

you from having a career or means that you are stupid," she tells fellow learners.

"What you need to do is to work hard and not to listen to people who try to discourage you to do what you are good at."

She says that she believes that God opens the door where there is no door and

For the love of cricket!that nothing is impos-sible when you have faith.

She enjoys all sports and says that her performance on provin-cial level is a blessing. "I enjoy it when I work hard and see im-provement in my game - it makes me proud of myself."

Thembi thanks her family, Ms Molope, Mr Nkuna, Mr Horn, Mr Strauss for their sup-port. She remembers her late coach (Lizzer) from Mahwelereng Vultures Cricket Club.

On 15 September, the Grade 9 learners from Hebron-, Tetema-, Ramogobodi- and Waterberg High Schools were invited to present a health talk at the Mogalakwena Library. The main aim of the day was to encourage learners to edu-cate their peers and families to make wise decisions regarding their lives and futures. Water-berg High was represented by Sarah Makobane, Makgarebe Ledwaba, Mabitsi Mmaphuti, Kgopotso Mphalele, Precious Lehutso, Tshepho Molefe, Seun Sekoala, Shona Makoena, Oratile Mahlanya and Lebo Moabelo.

“My prioriteit lê by die ideale van elke kind in my klub, nie by my besigheid nie.”

Help my!” - Leane Botha

“Tannie, my vrou moet eendag soos tan-nie lyk,” Stefanus Malan
