COMMONLY USED BASTI YOGAS IN

SHALYA SADHYA VYADHI Manjisthadi Kshara Basti - in Hyperlipidaemea, Atherosclerosis (eg.

TAO), Osteoarthritis. Hyperlipidaemea-  is abnormally elevated levels of any or all lipids

and/or lipoproteins in the blood. It is the most common form of dyslipidemia (which includes any abnormal lipid levels).

Atherosclerosis- also known as arteriosclerotic vascular disease or ASVD ,is a specific form of arteriosclerosis in which an artery-wall thickens as a result of invasion and accumulation of white blood cells (WBCs) (foam cell) and proliferation of intimal-smooth-muscle cell creating a fibrofatty plaque, which reduces the lumen of the arteries.

Page 8: Niruha basti in SHALYA

Osteoarthritis-  is a type of joint disease that results from breakdown of joint cartilage and underlying bone.

Page 9: Niruha basti in SHALYA

MANJISTHADI KSHEERA BASTI – EG. ARTERIAL DISEASES WITH BURNING SENSATION.

Raynaud's disease or Raynaud's phenomenon  is excessively reduced blood flow in response to cold or emotional stress,  causing discoloration of the fingers, toes, and occasionally other areas. This condition may also cause nails to become brittle with longitudinal ridges.

Main cause Atherosclerosis

ERANDAMOOLADI NIRUHA BASTI - GRIDHARASI

Lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) is a medical condition in which the spinal canal narrows and compresses the spinalcord and nerves at the level of the lumbar vertebra. This is usually due to the common occurrence of spinaldegeneration that occurs with aging.

Page 11: Niruha basti in SHALYA

PICHHA BASTI – IN ULCERATIVE COLITIS, IBS

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic relapsing form of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that causes inflammation and ulcers in the colon.

Patients usually present with diarrhea mixed with blood and mucus, of gradual onset that persists for an extended period (weeks).

The disease is classified by the extent of involvement, depending on how far up the colon the disease extends.

Page 12: Niruha basti in SHALYA

CLASSIFICATION Distal colitis, potentially treatable with enemas:

Proctitis: Involvement limited to the rectum. Proctosigmoiditis: Involvement of the rectosigmoid colon, the portion

of the colon adjacent to the rectum. Left-sided colitis: Involvement of the descending colon, which runs

along the patient's left side, up to the splenic flexure and the beginning of the transverse colon.

Extensive colitis, inflammation extending beyond the reach of enemas: Pancolitis: Involvement of the entire colon, extending from the

rectum to the cecum, beyond which the small intestine begins.

YASTIMADHU KSHEERA BASTI – IN GERD, DUODENAL ULCER

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), also known as gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) and acid reflux, is a chronic condition of mucosal damage caused by stomach acid coming up from the stomach into the esophagus. Occasional reflux causes heartburn, but chronic reflux leads to reflux esophagitis,

Peptic ulcer disease (PUD), also known as a peptic ulcer or stomach ulcer, is a break in the lining of the stomach, first part of thesmall intestine, or occasionally the lower esophagus. An ulcer in the stomach is known as a gastric ulcer while that in the first part of the intestines is known as a duodenal ulcer. The most common symptoms are waking at night with upper abdominal pain or upper abdominal pain that improves with eating.

RESEARCH ARTICLEEFFICACY OF PICHHA BASTI IN ULCERATIVE COLITIS: AN OBSERVATIONAL STUDY Chiterlekha, Swati S. Deshpande, Baidyanath Mishra

. Int. J. Ayur. Pharma Research. 2014;2(8):23-26

CONCLUSION Basti karma has shown improvement or cure of the ulcerations by enhanced healing and subsiding inflammation & irritability of the colon. It also improves functions of Apana Vayu, situated in Pakwashaya and results into improvement regulation of evacuation of the colon. In the study the mean scores of frequency of diarrhoea, blood and mucous in stool, pain abdomen, weakness, pus cell in stool are compared to before and after treatment is highly significant.

RESEARCH ARTICLE

TRIPHALADI NIRUHA BASTI IN THE MANAGEMENT OF CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASEKiran M Goud, Basavaraj S Shirur, VinayKumar K.N, Baidyanath MishraInt. J. Ayur. Pharma Research. 2014;2(8):27-33.CONCLUSION

Basti used in the this study is very much effective in improving the kidney functions and the Basti used in this study having the property of Sroto vishuddhi. The kidneys are made up of principally the “Rakta” and “Meda” dhatus. Triphaladi Niruha Basti along with various Shamana aushadhi, has resulted in the reversal of the kidney factors and recover from CKD. This action may be tribute to its various Sothagna (Anti-inflammatory), Mutrala (Diuretic), Lekhana (Scrapes) property.

Page 24: Niruha basti in SHALYA

DISCUSSIONKsheera basti Mode of action in different Asthivahastroto vikara

In Asthivaha stroto vikara body needs more calcium to repair and nourish the bone .

Milk calcium may be absorbed in the absence of vitamin D, under the influence of lactose in the distal small intestine via the paracellular route. Thus milk can provide calcium with “ensured absorbability” which is generally insensitive to external factors, except for inhibitors, such as oxalic acid. Dairy products do not contain anything likely to inhibit the intestinal absorption of calcium, like phytates, oxalates, uronic acids or the polyphenols of certain plant foods.

Page 25: Niruha basti in SHALYA

it should be remembered that milk and dairy products are not only excellent sources of calcium, but also provide an almost complete diet whose consumption provides a “meal effect” .

so the absorption of calcium and provides a simultaneous intake of phosphorus that is essential for bone deposition.

Thus it can be used for various disorders such as• Osteoarthritis• Post-operative treatment of different types of fractures• Rehablitataion after Bone or Ligament graft• In sports injury• As Brumhana basti.

Page 26: Niruha basti in SHALYA

Manjisthadi kshara basti

Mode of action

Consist of mainly Manjistha-

Rasa: Madhur,Tikat, KashayaBitter, sweet, astringentVirya:SheetaVipaka: KatuGuna: Guru , RukshaDosha: Pittakapha Shamaka,Dhatu: Rakta , Mamsa, Asthi

Page 27: Niruha basti in SHALYA

Manjistha calms aggravated pitta and breaks up congested kapha. Many pitta-aggravated imbalances in the body, especially those of the blood, may be supported by Manjistha’s affinity for balancing pitta. Also useful in skin related disorders, lymph disorders and good for bones.

Role of kshara- Kshara having Lekhana properties , so it scraps out aggrevated Doshas from Dhatu , thus gives Shrotoshodhana effect.

So it is highly beneficial in diseases like

Vericose vein Female reproductive disorders

Stenosis

Atherosclerosis

CKD (chronic kidney disease)

Where Shodhana and Lekhana is needed.
