Macro economic factors affecting Ctran Consulting

The main focus of Ctran consulting is on climate change and CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) consulting.

But as a strategy, the company is diversifying its work and now focusing on sustainability solution rather than CDM advisory.

One of the major factors affecting the company’s performance is the CER (Certified Emission Reduction) prices which depend on a number of short term and long term factors.

Page 9: Nihit - Ctran Consulting project proposal

Macro economic factors affecting Ctran Consulting

The short term factors are 1. Spread between natural gas and coal prices2. Energy demand3. Economic activity.

The long term factors are based on the number and type of CDM projects registered issuance pattern and emission targets.

The trend of the potential in this field is upward though volatility will remain. So the market outlook is quite positive.

Macro economic factors affecting Ctran Consulting

The price spread between pCERs (Primary CERs) and sCERs (Secondary CERs) keeps fluctuating depending upon market and social-economic condition. For example the recession caused an increase decrease in CER market of about 30%, but the sCER market grew 350%.

By nature the clients are diverse, so also their core business and the type of CERs. This is the reason why recession does not have such a huge impact as it had on other industries.

Project objectives

1. Augmentation in production of suitable Ginger varieties (for value addition) in clusters with improved package of practices.

2. Improvement in post harvest technology of Ginger to minimise post harvest losses and develop value added products.

3. Improvement in value chain of Ginger for improved economic return to growers through remunerative market of branded and certified ginger and ginger based products.

Page 16: Nihit - Ctran Consulting project proposal

Two scheduled and backward districts, having adequate potential for ginger value addition, have been selected for the project namely Koraput and Kandhamal of Orissa.

In each district one cluster comprising 500 farmers, mostly small and marginal, will be associated in the value chain improvement process.

The consortium will be headed by Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) who will be providing inputs on technological application for production augmentation of elite variety ginger, promotion of post harvest management technologies with new technological innovation, rendering guidance for product processing and valuation through establishment of PPF at its campus.

Page 17: Nihit - Ctran Consulting project proposal

Role of Ctran Consulting

CTARN Consulting is the core partner to OUAT who will be responsible for operating PPF.

CTRAN will also provide project management support along with project monitoring, supervision and on the spot guidance to the project for the realisation of the set objectives.

Page 18: Nihit - Ctran Consulting project proposal

Role of Other Partners

Apart from OUAT and CTRAN, in each district one NGO partner, KASAM in Kandhamal and IAEET in Koraput are selected for direct implementation and rendering support to the farmers.

Natural Remedies Pvt. Ltd. (NRPL), one of the consortium partner, will play a major role in the value addition aspects of the proposed project. NRPL will be involved in research, product innovation, production and marketing of several high value-added products from ginger. The processed ginger material at PPF will be purchased directly from the farmers by NRPL through buyback agreements at suitable, pre-agreed price.

My Proposal

Study the carbon footprints of the whole ginger value chain in the two districts: Koraput and Kandhamal.

Come up with a plan for minimizing the carbon emissions in the whole value chain, by studying the various post harvest and processing technologies used in the two districts by the farmers.

Study the market, to analyze market potential for other processed products, which might me more carbon friendly.

Make a proposal for implementation in the two districts of the findings from above points.

Oversee the impletion of the above proposal.
