NIGHTMARE OF THE TERRIFIED ADOLESCENTWITH ANA LIDIAS SAD END

uca was a quiet and studious adolescent. She wasnt pretty, buther female body was beginning to appear. Her eldest brother

Joca was ugly and quite slim. His insecurity led him to the drugs. His father was always very demanding of him his whole life, mainly regarding what the father didnt achieve. This, added to thefighting, diminishing his strength and capacity to fight for a good life. His mother, in the name of love and an everlasting marriage, allowed herself to be over-abused. The young man did not studyand didnt do anything. At home he only complained to his mother

and sister. On the street he didnt managed to play normally like theother boys. He was poorly treated, sometimes he would get by theside or get involved with the bad crowd. This led him to drugs. Hehad just entered puberty and was already addicted to drugs. Athome, everybody pretended not to notice it, even when some smallamounts of money began to disappear. Even his father wasneglectful.

At school there were comments that Joca was an addict. Zucacried a lot when she heard about it, but she didnt have courage to

reveal the problem at home. Instinctively, she went along withfamilys tacit agreement. She was still a girl, she vented her feelingsto a colleague - the single and adopted daughter of a complicatedfamily who became her best friend.

Around this time, news about Ana Lidia exploded. A pretty girlwho, according to comments heard in Brasilia, was handed by heraddicted brother to a drug dealer, as payment for a debt. The Policecould never prove any of the accusations, due to the fact that theother people involved were relatives of powerful people, at the time. That case was never satisfactorily solved. But TV, newspapers and

magazines constantly talked about the tragedy.Zuca also began to imagine herself being sold by her brother.

He was jealous of her and used to accuse her of pampering hermother and being false with her father. She imagined that he wouldlike to see her out of the family. Whats more, the students, atschool, already perceived her body and many times told her abouttheir sexual desires, despite the fact that she didn t like that. Inaddition to that, John Doe, an aggressive boss gang, who sheconsidered to be disgusting, used to approach her, talking about

sex, showing his abusive, pathetic behavior. The more she becameshy and blushed, the more he spoke worse things and the more the

other boys laughed. If her brother happened to be around, he feltlike hiding his head in a hole, then, they intensified their attack. Andthey laughed a lot. She hated them

Her adolescent mind contributed to her to exaggerating things,

very much. From the home, sneakers and electronic equipmentdisappeared. Once, their parents accused an imaginary figure whohad supposedly entered through the apartment door and had stolenobjects from the house. In a crazy attempt to convince herself, hermother began to watch through the window, any poor personpassing by.

Zuca knew her brother had done it. Then, a pair of hersneakers disappeared. She had a psychological breakdown, notonly because of the theft, but as a consequence of all she had beenfeeling recently. She cursed her brother, she accused him and shevomited all she had tightly squeezed inside. Her mother, then herfather, pretended that they were not listening to the truth.Bewildered, the poor mother ran to prepare a chamomile tea for herdaughter, justifying her daughters explosion saying shes beenstudying much. Her father ended the issue saying he was going tothe shopping center to buy another pair of sneakers. And they putan end to the matter.

She cried a lot, she spent days crying, not even the promisedpurchase succeeded to stop her from crying. She was not crying for

the loss of the object, but due to the imminent danger she imaginedwas going to happen. Her parents didnt understand the reason forso much crying.

She began to use clothes that were baggy. Her goal was notto be noticed. She began to gain weight, in order to become ugly.

The student mentioned above, who she imagined being thehead of drug traffic neurotically began to approach her moreintensively. Then she didnt leave her house. This way she wasexposed to less danger. She was afraid of staying alone with her

brother, as she imagined herself being kidnapped by the bandits.During one of the rare walks with her family, everyone went to visitone of her fathers cousin. She didnt even want to seat in the backseat of the car with her brother.

She paid attention to any news about Ana Lidia, in order tobetter protect herself. When people began to consider the littlemartyr to be a saint, she was one of the first to ask her for a miracleof not having the same fate. She imagined she would havepreference due to the similar problems.

One day Joca had a serious health problem. He fainted andentered into coma. He stayed at the hospital for various days. The

doctor told the parents that the young mans problem was due to thedrugs. He suggested that they make a quick decision, while therewas still some time. His mother fainted and his father drank duringtwo days, non-stop. Then, the young mans aunt decided:

    - Lets put him into a clinic, without people knowing about it, asit would be a shame to the families. That was hard. Since they didnt have much money, he went

to a clinic that was convenient for them, in regards to the financialand transportation aspects. No one thought about him, about whatled him into that situation.

Zuca felt relieved, but it didnt last long. Quite soon she foundout that her brother would only stay for three months at the clinic. When he returned, at the beginning it seemed he had become akind of dumb. However, soon he recovered and unfortunately hewent back to using drugs with more intensity.

Joca stayed for a while in Braslia, another time at a clinic inthe countryside of Goias State. The family secret, of course couldnot be preserved, as most people found out

Zuca firmly decided to pass an entrance exame for a collegequite far away from her city. There she took her course andgradually lost weight and became, again, a pretty woman. She met ayoung man and married him. She also chose to get a job quite faraway from Braslia. She rarely visited her parents. Her mother

visited her always, she adored the grandchildren. Her brother was involved in a motorcycle accident and died

while still young. After a long time had passed, Zuca came back to her city and

knew that 25 years had passed since little Ana Lidias death. Shethen perceived she had given another direction to her own life due toher fear of having the same sad fate.

Was it possible that she moved away just because of thattragedy? There were probably other reasons too.
