Why is it called Bluetooth

• Bluetooth was developed by Ericsson (pre-Sony Ericsson) which is a major Swedish telecommunication company.

• Its named after a Danish king because the company who invented Bluetooth is Danish and his name in English stands for BLUETOOTH.

What is Bluetooth?

• Bluetooth is a technology that allows you to wirelessly talk or here data from a short distance. For example, music,

pictures and games. It does this buy using short wavelength radio transmissions in the ISM band from 2400-2480

MHz. A Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone is able to pair with many devices. LOTS OF PHONES HAVE

BLUETOOTH ALREADY BUILT IN. IT IS A GOOD WAY TO SHARE INFORMATION WITHOUT WIRES.

History of Bluetooth

• Created by telecoms company Ericsson in 1994, it was originally conceived as a wireless alternative to RS-232 data cables. It can connect several devices, overcoming problems of synchronization. Bluetooth uses a radio technology called frequency-

hopping spread spectrum, which chops up the data being sent and transmits chunks of it on up to 79 bands. Many USB Bluetooth adapters or "dongles" are available, some of which also include an IrDA adapter. Older (pre-2003) Bluetooth

dongles, however, have limited capabilities, offering only the Bluetooth Enumerator and a less-powerful Bluetooth Radio incarnation. Such devices can link computers with Bluetooth with a distance of 100 meters, but they do not offer as many

services as modern adapters do.
