• The Nicholls Colonels (2-7, 2-5 SLC) will wrap up their 2015 home slate on Saturday as they host Central Arkansas (6-3, 6-1 SLC) on Senior Day. While the Colonels will look to build off their road win last week at Lamar, they could also play the spoiler role as UCA heads to Thibodaux looking to stay in the thick of the Southland Conference race, as well as strengthening their resume for a possible postseason bid.

• Tim Rebowe is 1-2 at home in his fi rst season as the Colonels’ head coach. After a 37-7 loss to top-ranked McNeese State, Rebowe led Nicholls to a 38-17 victory over Houston Baptist on Oct. 17. In the Red and Gray’s last outing in Thibodaux, Northwestern State toppled the Colonels, 37-21.

• Central Arkansas leads the all-time series over Nicholls, 7-2, dating back to the fi rst meeting in 2000. After taking two of three against the Bears, the Colonels have lost six straight to UCA including the last three in Thibodaux. Last season, UCA defeated Nicholls, 52-18, in Conway to open the conference season. The teams met in 2013 in Thibodaux on Senior Day and the Bears came away with a 17-10 victory.

• Nicholls rushed for a season-high 415 yards last Saturday to defeat Lamar on the road, 30-28. The Colonels fell behind by two touchdowns early on, but kept fi nding a way to answer Lamar’s potent rushing attack with a stellar performance on the ground of their own. Tobias Lofton rushed for a career-high 154 yards and had an 82-yard touchdown, and Michael Henry recorded his sixth career 100-yard game and found the end zone twice.

• Although Nicholls is allowing 257 yards rushing per game, the Colonels statistically have the Southland’s top-rated pass defense, allowing just 185.0 yards per contest. After allowing a season-high 391 yards in the opener at ULM, the Colonel pass defense has only surrendered more than 200 yards passing twice. With a little assistance from the weather the last three weekends, the defense allowed just 63, 80 and 143 passing yards, respectively.

• Central Arkansas heads to Thibodaux with a three-game winning streak, which upped its record to 6-1 in league play. After falling to undefeated McNeese, the Bears won at Lamar (35-17) before notching a pair of wins in Conway against Southeastern La. (21-16) and Stephen F. Austin (36-24).

• The Bears have taken care of the ball so far this season, ranking fi fth in the FCS in turnover margin. UCA has surrendered the ball only 11 times this season, including just two interceptions, versus 20 takeaways. The Bears lead the Southland with 16 INTs.

• The Bear offense is led by RB Blake Veasley and WR Desmond Smith. Blake ranks 33rd in the FCS in rushing yards (737) and 23rd in rushing TDs (9), while Smith is 30th in receiving yards (737) and 20th in receptions per game (6.6).

CONWAY, Ark. – Nicholls trailed by 12 points early in the second half in its Southland Conference opener at Central Arkansas, but the Bears scored 28 consecutive points to defeat the Colonels, 52-18, on Saturday at Estes Stadium. Running back Michael Henry rushed for 142 yards on 21 carries, averaging 6.8 yards per rush. The Colonels relied heavily on the run game, rushing the ball 45 times for a net of 127. A large portion of the Colo-nels’ rushing yards were negated on a failed wide receiver pass, an oversnapped ball and three sacks. Kalen Henderson completed 5-of-11 passes for 68 yards, picking up most of his yardage on the Colonels’ touch-down drive in the fi rst quarter. Beaux Hebert threw for 45 yards on 4-of-8 and connected with Kyron King for a late touchdown. UCA used a balanced attack, racking up 267 yards passing and 220 yards on the ground. The Bears rushed for four touchdowns and scored three on passes. B.T. Sanders led Nicholls defense with 12 tackles, followed by Kameryon Brown with 11 and Ronnie Walker with 10. The Colonel defense got a big play early on by Sanders as he intercepted a pass by Ryan Howard on UCA’s fi rst drive. But after a 21-yard punt by the Colonels, the Bears struck fi rst with a 9-play, 60-yard scoring drive. Blake Veasley scored the game’s fi rst touchdown, rushing in from seven yards out. Nicholls answered with a touchdown on their next possession, scoring on a 13-yard run by Henderson. The senior quarterback kept the drive alive with a pair of third-down completions, fi nding Demon Bolt for 28 yards before an 11-yard completion to Keenan Canty moved the ball into the red zone. On the next play, Henderson powered through the left side from 13-yards to make the score 7-6 with 2:16 remaining in the fi rst. But the Colonels’ extra-point was no good, keeping the defi cit at one. UCA marched down the fi eld early in the second quarter, taking a 14-6 lead after a Willie Matthews touchdown. Matthews led the Bears with two rushing touchdowns, fi nishing with 56 yards on 18 carries. Later in the quarter, Nicholls looked to have its fi rst sack of the season as Cole Frazier forced a fumble deep in UCA territory that was recovered by the Gus Ferrat, but the Colonels were fl agged for illegal use of hands, which negated the turnover. The Bears went on to add a 35-yard fi eld goal by Jace Denker for a 17-6 lead. Before the break, Henderson and Henry botched an exchange on a handoff, giving UCA the ball back on Nicholls’ 16 yard line. Two plays later, Howard connected with Dezmin Smith for a 10-yard touchdown with 1:16 remaining. The Colonels moved close enough for a 49-yard fi eld goal attempt by Francisco Condado right before the intermission, but the kick sailed right to keep the score at 24-6. Nicholls cut the lead in half just one minute into the third quarter as Joel Dullary picked off a pass by Howard and returned it 22 yards for a touchdown. But once again, no PAT was added as the Bears blocked the kick, leaving the score at 24-12. The special teams woes continued for the Colonels on the ensuing kickoff, surrendering a 78-yard return by Jatavioi-us Wilson. Three plays later, Howard hit Courtney Whitehead for a 10-yard score. Central Arkansas tacked on two more touchdowns in the quarter, extending its lead to 45-12. After UCA added another touchdown in the fourth, the Colonels scored multiple touchdowns for the second time this season as Hebert and King hooked up with just two seconds remaining. UCA blocked the extra-point once again, giving Nicholls one missed fi eld goal and three unsuccessful extra-points on the day.

OFFENSIVE NOTESQUARTERBACKS• The heavy rain and wind played a major role in the passing game over the last three weeks. At Lamar, Landry Klann threw for 144 yards after fi lling in for Tuskani Figaro, who suffered an injury on a 75-yard run in the fi rst quarter.Against NSU, Figaro was 15 of 28 for 176 yards and a touchdown, while also adding 114 yards on the ground - his fi rst 100-yd game of the season. At Sam Houston, Figaro threw for just 36 yards, but did have an 80-yd TD run.

• Klann led Nicholls to the win at Lamar, completing 10 of 20 passes and added 60 yards rushing on 11 carries. Klann scored the game’s fi nal touchdown as he avoided a sack in the third quarter and scrambled 5 yards for his fi rst rushing TD of the year.

• Figaro set new a career high in completions (18) against HBU. He fi nished with 134 yards passing, while also rushing for 91 yards and 2 touchdowns.

• The Colonels lost both quarterbacks who logged starts last season, but returning are Tuskani Figaro and Landry Klann. Before redshirting last season due to a coaches’ decision, Figaro received the majority of the snaps in 2013, going on to pass and rush for over 1,000 yards. Figaro’s 1,103 yards rushing yards set the Colonels’ single-season mark, and he also matched the team record with fi ve 100-yard rushing games in one season, highlighted by a program-record 281 yards against Arkansas Tech.

• A starter at QB in 2012, Klann missed 2013 with a shoulder injury and made the switch to linebacker last season before suffering another season-ending injury. In 2012, he threw for 2,049 yards and 8 TDs in 11 games as he became the fi rst Colonel QB to throw for over 2,000 yards since 1998.

RUNNING BACKS• Tobias Lofton set career highs in the win at Lamar, rushing for 154 yards on 17 carries. Lofton recorded the longest rush of his two-year career, going untouched on a 3rd-and-1 for an 82-yard touchdown.

• Michael Henry also rushed for 100 yards against Lamar, carrying the ball a career-high 31 times and found the end zone twice. It was Henry’s sixth career 100-yard game and marked the third time in the last four games that he scored two touchdowns.

• Henry rushed 23 times for a career-high 154 yards and one score against Northwestern State. He also recorded his fi rst career TD reception on a 19-yard pass in the fi rst quarter.

• In the win vs HBU, Henry rushed for 92 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Lofton had 69 yards and a score.

RECEIVERS AND TIGHT ENDS• Terry Lucas Jr. and CJ Bates continue to lead the receivers as each posted at least 40 yards receiving at Lamar. Lucas caught three passes for 44 yards while Bates had two catches for 48 yards, highlighted on a 41-yard grab in the third quarter.

• Lucas Jr. and Bates led Nicholls against NSU as they each tallied 4 catches for 47 yards.

• Josh Singleton, who made the transition from defensive back to wide receiver, hauled in six receptions for 30 yards against Houston Baptist.

• Darryl Watson had a career day at SFA, recording four catches for 80 yards and a touchdown. After catching a pass for an 8-yd score, Watson broke free for a 42-yd reception which set up a fi eld goal in the third quarter.

OFFENSIVE LINE• Anchoring the offensive line is three-year starter Brandon Holmes. After playing guard as a freshman, Holmes took over in the middle and has been a mainstay on the offensive line, playing in 40 games.

• With the offensive line a little banged up, Holmes started at right guard in the last six games, and true freshman Ryan Hanley took over at center. Hanley, a native of Metairie, was a two-time all-state recipient at Rummel.

• Holmes was able to showcase his running back skills against NSU as he caught a fumble in the air and rushed for a 4-yard gain.

• Henry and Lofton combined for 98 yards rushing on 23 carries at SFA. Henry had 59 yards and found the end zone for the fi rst time this season, scoring on a 3-yard run in the fi rst quarter. Lofton had eight carries, averaging 4.9 per tote.

• Henry posted a strong outing against Colorado, rushing for 65 yards on 15 carries, averaging 4.3 yards per tote. Henry showed his power against the FBS Buffaloes as he barreled through defenders and was never stopped for a loss. In the second quarter, he broke outside for a season-long 28-yard.

• Henry was a monster in conference play last season as he averaged 107.5 yards per game and 5.5 per carry, rushing for six TDs. He posted a then career-high 146 yards at Northwestern State, which was one of four 100-yard outings in SLC play. Henry was a second-team All-Southland selection last season.

• Freshman Damion Jeanpiere had two big games in a row before suffering a season-ending injury. He had two grabs for 87 yards at SFA, hauling in a 45-yd catch to start the game and added a 42-yd reception on the next drive. Against McNeese, he caught fi ve passes for 112 yards, highlighted by a 52-yard TD reception.

• Lucas Jr. put together a career-game at ULM, catching 5 passes for 51 yards. His night was highlighted by a 31-yard catch he made near the sideline while sliding on his knees. Against UIW, he added 3 grabs for 29 yards.

• Tight end Stephen LeBouef was a focal point of the offense over a three-game stretch as he has tallied eight receptions for 81 yards. The run started at HBU, where he had three catches for 44 yards.

• With LeBouef out for the Lamar game, true freshman Joseph Keller logged his fi rst career start. He fi nished with one catch for 11 yards.

• Nicholls added LSU transfer Jonah Austin, who has started at left tackle. Austin, at 6-6, 330, recently graduated from LSU and had one year of eligibility remaining. While at LSU, Austin appeared in 12 games as a backup lineman.

• Chandler Arceneaux earned the starting spot at right tackle as a redshirt freshman. True freshman Ryan Hanley also played signifi cant time as a backup before starting against McNeese, as has redshirt freshman Kevin Pierce, who started at UIW.



DEFENSIVE NOTESDEFENSIVE LINE• Sophomore Lazarus Ona put together a solid outing at Lamar, tallying fi ve tackles including 1.0 for loss.

• Freshman Devin Simoneaux and Ona led the D-line with 3 tackles each vs NSU.

• Freshman Brandon Fontenot paced the defensive line with four tackles at Sam Houston.

• The Colonels sport one of the youngest defensive lines as six of the eight players listed on the depth chart are underclassmen. Tyler “Tank” Johnson, Devin Simoneaux and Kenny Dotson have started on the edges as freshmen, while Ona plugs up the middle at nose.

• Simoneaux recorded the fi rst sack for the D-line this season as he got to SFA’s quarterback in the third quarter.

LINEBACKERS• Junior Seth Keller led the Colonel defense against NSU, matching his career-high of 11 tackles. Keller contributed with a tackle for loss as well, accounting for 1 yard.

• Along with nine tackles at Sam Houston, Hezekiah White recorded a career-high 3.0 for loss. White also led the squad against Lamar with eight tackles.

• Geoffrey Hebert and White led Nicholls against SFA with 10 tackles each, while combining for 3 tackles for loss and 2 sacks. Hebert also forced a fumble in the second quarter, which was recovered by Nicholls.

• White has been a tackling machine for Nicholls this season. After nine games, he currently ranks fi fth in the Southland with 8.8 tackles per game. At Arkansas last season, White saw his season cut short after suffering a knee injury against the Razorbacks.

SECONDARY• Freshman Ahmani Martin was named LSWA Defensive Player of the Week, as well as honorable mention FCS National Freshman of the Week after his big performance at Lamar. Martin tied his career-high of 10 tackles, broke up a pass and picked off a pass near the end zone in the second quarter. Martin has two INTs on the year and a team-high fi ve pass breakups.

• Christian Boutte was credited with his third forced fumble of the season in the loss against NSU. His three forced fumbles ties B.T. Sanders for the team lead.

• Sophomore Chris Major picked up his fi rst career interception against Northwestern State.

SPECIAL TEAMS• Senior Francisco Condado drilled his fi rst game-winning fi eld goal in the victory over Lamar. With Nicholls trailing 28-27 due to his extra point hitting the upright on the fi nal touchdown, Condado was not phased as he sent a 28-yard attempt through the uprights with 2:46 remaining in the game. On the year, he has made 4 of 7 fi eld goals and 17 of 18 PATs, earning honorable mention SLC Special Teams Player of the Week twice.

• Joining the kicking crew is former LSU baseball player Chris Sciambra. A starting outfi elder for the nationally-ranker Tigers, Sciambra kicked in high school and was a walk-on at LSU last season. Last game, Sciambra ran 26

• Hebert was credited with the Colonels’ fi rst sack of the season as he chased ULM starting QB Garrett Smith out of bounds for a yard loss. Last season, Nicholls had just two sacks on the year.

• The linebackers are the most experienced group returning for the defense. Of the eight players listed on the depth chart, only one player, true freshman Adrian Richardson, did not see signifi cant playing time last season.

• Richardson set a new career best with 6 tackles at Sam Houston. His previous best was 5, coming against Colorado and McNeese State.

• Jeff Hall earned honorable mention for SLC Defensive POW after picking off two passes against HBU. His fi rst came on a leaping grab in the end zone and his second was off a tipped pass by linebacker Ronnie Walker.

• Martin prevented a touchdown on SFA’s fi rst drive as he batted away a pass in the end zone on a fourth-and-long attempt. Redshirt freshman Tyler Green was also credited with a forced fumble inside the 10.

• Sanders earned honorable mention for SLC Defensive POW after recording 8 tackles, 2 forced fumbles and 1 fumble recovery against SFA. Sanders prevented a SFA touchdown in the second by jarring the ball loose on a rush inside the 5, which was returned 53 yards by CB Jeff Hall. After returning a fumble 27 yards, Sanders caused another turnover on the opening kickoff to start the second half. Against Lamar, Sanders led the team with 13 tackles.

• Tyler St. Germain had a busy day in the rain at Sam Houston, punting a career-high 10 times for a personal-best 400 yards. For the year, he’s had 13 inside the 20, with fi ve being inside the 10.

• Freshman Kenny Dotson made a name for himself against Colorado, getting tackles in every way. Not only did Dotson have a few stops at the line, but he also chased down the ball carrier twice in the open fi eld. Dotson made his fi rst career start against McNeese State and tallied his fi rst career sack in the win over HBU.

• Senior Ja’Michael Edwards-Lott had a career-high four tackles against Colorado.

• Sophomore Sean Eppinette has started three games at end. In nine games this season, he has 12 tackles.

• Taking over the defensive line coach is Baton Rouge native Anthony Camp. A graduate of McNeese State, Camp spent the last six years coaching in the high school ranks.



CLOSE, BUT NO CIGARThe last two losses against UCA in Thibodaux have been decided by a touchdown or less. In 2013, the Colonels made a late comeback by scoring in the fi nal minute of the game, but an unsuccessful onside kick resulted in a 17-10 win for the Bears. In 2011, Nicholls could not hold on to a 21-10 halftime lead; however, had a chance to win it late but were stopped short of the goal line in a 37-31 loss.

MARTIN GARNERS AWARDSFreshman defensive back Ahmani Martin became the fi rst Colonel to earn a weekly award this season as he was named LSWA Defensive Player of the Week after the win at Lamar. In the victory, he tied his career-high of 10 tackles, broke up a pass and had a key interception near the end zone in the second quarter. The awards didn’t stop there though as he earned honorable mention for the FCS National Freshman of the Week, and Southland Defensive Player of the Week.

TEXAS TWO-STEPNicholls has not had much luck in the state of Texas as of late, losing its last 12 contests in the Lone Star State before last weekend’s win at Lamar. The Colonels’ last previous win in Texas came in a four-overtime thriller in 2010 against former Southland foe Texas State (47-45).

HEBERT NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICTRedshirt sophomore Geoffrey Hebert is one player who defi nes student-athlete. He was recently named to the Capital One Academic All-District team and is a strong candidate for All-America honors. Hebert posts a perfect 4.0 GPA as a double major in accounting and fi nance. On the fi eld, he has started all nine games this season and is tied for fourth on the team with 44 tackles.

THE WRATH OF PATRICIALike alot of teams in the South, the Colonels had to deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Patricia as heavy rain poured down during their entire game at Sam Houston State (Oct. 24). The Bearkats came into the game with the FCS’ top passing offense, but was forced to run the ball due to the wind and precipitation. Both teams combined for less than 100 yards passing and 20 punts.

POST-GAMEFootball SID Jamie Bustos will accom-pany the Colonels on every road trip to handle any day-of-game needs that may arise. Following the NCAA man-dated 10-minute cooling off period, Tim Rebowe and selected Colonel student-athletes will be made available to the media in the offensive meeting room located in the Barker Hall for home games. For away games, Nicholls will follow host SID procedures in how they handle post game interviews. With fi ve minutes remaining in the game, Nicholls will poll the media as to who they want to interview after the game. THE FORCE IS WITH YOUAfter coming up empty in three chances for turnovers against McNeese State, Nicholls forced fi ve fumbles against SFA and came away with four. Two of the fumbles came inside the 10-yard line as SFA was approaching the end zone. Leading the way was B.T. Sanders with two, upping his total to three for the season. The next week against HBU, Nicholls had another force and recovery by Christian Boutte, who also has three forced on the year.

SACK IT TO MEAfter having just two sacks all of last season, Nicholls recorded three sacks in its game against SFA. Hezekiah White had 1.5 sacks, Devin Simoneaux had 1 and Geoffrey Hebert added 0.5. The Colonels had three sacks in two games in 2013, with the last coming against Central Arkansas (11/16).

FRESH FACESThe Colonels have played a total of 19 freshmen through their fi rst nine contests. Making starts as rookies have been WRs Jarrell Rogers and Damion Jeanpiere, OLs Chandler Arceneaux, Ryan Hanley and Kevin Pierce, DEs Tank Johnson, Devin Simoneaux and Kenny Dotson, DBs Tyler Green, Corey Abraham and Ahmani Martin and long-snapper Wesley Barnett.

HENRY HONORED BY NFFSenior running back Michael Henry was recognized by the National Football Foundation as a semifi nalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, which is awarded to the best football scholar-athlete in the nation. A 2014 Southland All-Academic nominee last season, Henry posts a 3.27 GPA in marketing.

FBS TRANSFERSWhile head coach Tim Rebowe believed that there was plenty of talent coming back from 2014, he was able to add in several FBS tranfers into the mix. On offense, joining Nicholls are WRs C.J. Bates (UL-Lafayette), Charles Henderson (Utah), Jarrell Rogers (UL-Lafayette) and Daijuan Stewart (SMU); and left tackle Jonah Austin (LSU). Only one transfer came on defense, DB Jeff Hall (Colorado), and K Chris Sciambra (LSU) joins the specialists after playing baseball for the nationally-ranked Tigers.



STARTED FROM THE BASES NOW HE’S HERECornerback Darius Knight joined the football team over the summer after playing two seasons with the Colonel baseball team. A junior college transfer, Knight logged 64 starts in his two seasons with the Nicholls baseball team, helping lead the Colonels to back-to-back top three fi nishes in the Southland. He was third on the team in batting average in 2015, hitting .275 with 12 RBIs, 25 runs scored and led the conference with 12 sacrifi ce bunts.

THE TIM REBOWE SHOWThe Tim Rebowe Radio Show debuted Tuesday night (Sept. 15) on ESPN New Orleans 100.3 FM. The two-hour show, hosted by Ken Frielander and Voice of the Colonels, Bryant Johnson, takes place at Walk-On’s in Houma every Tuesday night from 6-8 p.m. Rebowe will be featured in the weekly show from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

THE ROADLike Cormac McCarthy’s novel, Nicholls’ fi rst half of the schedule pitted the Colonels on a long dreary road as the Red and Gray play 4 of its fi rst 5 games away from home. Before the win at Lamar, the Colonels had not won a road conference game since their 37-7 win at Northwestern State on 11/13/10 (18 games).

SNAPPING SKIDSWith the win over Houston Baptist, the Colonels not only gave Coach Rebowe his fi rst career win, but the Colonels closed the books on a 23-game losing streak. Last week at Lamar, Nicholls put to rest to road skids - 18 Southland road games and 16 straight away games.

LARDARIUS WEBBFormer Colonel and current Baltimore Raven Lardarius Webb was voted into the Nicholls Athletics Hall of Fame after appearing on the ballot for the fi rst time in 2014. Webb, who became the second Colonel in the last fi ve seasons to win a Super Bowl ring after his Ravens defeated San Francisco in Super Bowl XLVII, 34-31, had a storied career at Nicholls, earning All-American honors in both of his seasons as he racked up nearly 40 individual awards. Webb is in his seventh season with the Ravens.

LAGNIAPPES PART II NEW STAFFThe 2015 Colonel coaching staff not only has a new person at the helm, but the entire staff is different from last season.

ROB CHRISTOPHEL (OC/QB)Christophel directs the offense and coaches the quarterbacks. He came to Nicholls after eight seasons at Missouri State. He also served as the OC at Louisiana-Lafayette from 2001-06.

TOMMY RYBACKI (DC/LB)Rybacki oversees the defense after spending one season at UCA as cornerbacks coach where the Bears were second in interceptions with 16. Also coached at ULL as a GA from 2011-13.

ANTHONY CAMP (DL)Camp heads the defensive line after coaching six years in the local high school ranks. His last stint was as DC at Catholic in Baton Rouge, helping the team to a 26-8 record during his tenure.

RUSS GISCLAIR (TE)Gisclair joined Nicholls after lettering four seasons with the Colonels from 2010-13. At fullback, Gisclair appeared in 38 career games for the Colonels. Following graduation, he worked at Vandebilt Catholic in Houma and in 2015, joined the McNeese State staff as a defensive assistant.

SEAN MURPHY (WR)Murphy came to Nicholls after spending three seasons at Louisiana-Lafayette as a graduate assistant. In the last two campaigns, he served as an assistant coach for the wide receivers and was the scout team coordinator.

ALAN RICARD (RB)Ricard joined Nicholls after coaching the running backs for one season at The Apprentice School, a Division III program in Virginia. Prior to the season, he completed an internship with the NFL’s New York Jets during the summer which lasted through training camp. A former fullback in the NFL, Ricard is a graduate of ULM.

LEE ROUSSEL (OL)Roussel joined Nicholls after coaching at Archbishop Rummel for fi ve seasons. Along with coaching the o-line, he took over as OC in 2014 as the Raiders fi nished the regular season at 10-0 and ranked No. 1 in the state in Class 5A.

MARCUS SCOTT (DB)Scott came to Nicholls after serving as head coach at West Jefferson High (La.) from 2008-13. During his tenure, the Buccaneers posted a 38-26 record, reached the playoffs in each season and claimed two district titles – in 2008 and 2009.

BRIAN WALLACE (LB)Wallace came to Nicholls after coaching at his alma mater, Louisiana College, for three seasons. While at LC, he served as co-defensive coordinator, linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator.

NEW DCNicholls entered the season with its third defensive coordinator in as many years. After ranking near or at the bottom of the FCS in several defensive categories last season, fi rst-year coordinator Tommy Rybacki has the task of revamping the defense. Rybacki has familiar ties to the Southland as he came to Nicholls after coaching three seasons at Central Arkansas.

ON THE AIRWAVESESPN Radio New Orleans, KLRZ 100.3 FM will be the home for Colonel football for all 11 games. KLRZ is an 89,000 watt FM station devoting 27 hours a week to live, local programming. In addition to live coverage of each game, ESPN Radio New Orleans will conduct interviews with Colonel coaches and players throughout the season. Bryant Johnson will cover play-by-play and will be joined by Seth Thomas (color) and Kyle Carrier (sideline).

THE MANNING CAMPOver the summer, Nicholls State University hosted The Manning Passing Academy for the 11th consecutive year. The four-day camp, put on by the Manning family - Archie and his sons, Cooper, Eli and Peyton - brought in close to 1,200 high school campers from all over the country. In addition to the Manning’s, every year some of the most elite NCAA quarterbacks act as camp counselors. Current NFL starting quarterbacks that were recently counselors include Andrew Luck, Andy Dalton and Marcus Mariota.

SOUTHLAND CHAMPIONSThe program is celebrating its 10-year anniversary of its Southland Conference Championship. In 2005, the Colonels went 5-1 in Southland play which included a win over co-champion Texas State. Nicholls went on to play Furman in the playoffs and was defeated, 14-12.

Tim Rebowe was named head football coach at Nicholls State University on Nov. 21, 2014. Rebowe, a 52-year old native of Norco, La., is the 10th head coach in the program’s his-tory. Rebowe, who coached at Louisiana-Lafayette as an assistant for 11 seasons and was a former assistant coach

at Nicholls for six years, not only brings a wealth of experi-ence coaching at the collegiate level, but has strong ties to the state of Louisiana having coached within the borders his entire career.

Rebowe helped lead the Ragin’ Cajun program to four consecutive New Orleans Bowl victories and a conference championship under head coach Mark Hudspeth. Dur-ing his tenure at ULL, Rebowe has served as the safeties coach (2004-07, 2011-14) and linebackers coach (2008-10).

Last season, ULL’s defense ranked fi rst in the Sun Belt in rushing yards allowed and red zone defense, while ranking second in points allowed. The defense fi nished with seven interceptions on the year, including two by cornerback Corey Trim, who was named All-Sun Belt Second Team Defense.

Under Rebowe’s tutelage in 2013, the Cajuns tied for the conference lead with 14 interceptions. Two years prior, his safeties combined for fi ve interceptions, with three returned for touchdowns.

Rebowe’s group had a stellar year in his fi rst season as defensive backs coach in 2004 as the defense ranked 11th in the nation in passing yards allowed. Both of his starting safeties that year, C.C. Brown and Antwain Spann, would go on to the NFL. The following season, the pass defense fi nished 23rd in the nation in yards allowed. As a linebackers coach, Rebowe guided the team’s lead-ing tackler in all three seasons and also had two players earn All-Sun Belt recognition. In 1995, Rebowe took his fi rst collegiate job, joining Dar-ren Barbier’s staff at Nicholls. From ‘95-’99, he served as defensive backs coach and special teams coordinator before coaching the receivers in 2000. Rebowe was part of the biggest turnaround in FCS history as the Colonels went 0-11 in ‘95 before earning a playoff spot the very next season with an 8-4 mark. Rebowe began his coaching career in 1988 at his alma mater, Destrehan High School. While at Destrehan, he coached future NFL Hall of Famer Ed Reed. Following his stint with Nicholls, Rebowe coached the cornerbacks at ULM from 2001-03. Rebowe earned his bachelor of science in physical educa-tion from LSU in 1987. He is married to the former Kim Ro-bichaux and they have a daughter, Samantha, and a son, Tyler, who is an infi elder on the Colonel baseball team.

MONROE, La. – The ULM Warhawks put together a 30-point second quarter to pull away from the Nicholls State University football team as the Colonels fell in their season opener, 47-0, Saturday night at Malone Stadium. The loss spoiled the debut of Nicholls head coach Tim Rebowe and pushed the Colonels’ overall losing streak to 19 games. ULM (1-1), which plays at the FBS level, improved its all-time record to 23-3 against the Colonels and has won the last nine meetings. Saturday night’s matchup was the fi rst contest between the instate schools since 2000. Nicholls was limited to 260 yards on offense and gave up 593 yards. Michael Henry had a solid fi rst half for the Colonels, rushing for 74 yards on 11 carries. He added four more carries after the break, fi nishing with 77 yards. Tuskani Figaro got the start under center, passing for 101 yards on 10 of 17. ULM set the tone early by scoring on its fi rst two drives. Following a fi eld goal on the game’s opening drive, the Warhawks took a 10-0 lead after Devontae McNeal scored on a 3-yard touchdown. Nicholls went three-and-out in each of its fi rst three drives in the quarter. The Warhawks broke open the game in the second quarter, led by quarterback Garrett Smith who accounted four all four touchdowns in the stanza. Smith started the scoring with a 10-yard touchdown run and followed up with his fi rst of three passing TDs before the half with a 13-yard strike to Ajalen Holley. Holley had a big night for ULM, catching eight balls for 155 yards. Down 24-0, Nicholls pieced together a 9-play, 57-yard drive, but came up empty on the scoreboard. On a 4th-and-3 from the ULM 24, Rebowe elected to go for it, but the Warhawks hit Figaro in the backfi eld and forced the ball loose. ULM then closed out the half with 16 points. Smith hit Harley Scioneaux for a 17-yard score and the defense blocked a punt into the end zone for a safety. After the free kick, Smith connected with Holley for a 47-yard touchdown for a 40-0 lead. Smith fi nished with 370 yards and completed 26 of 33 passes. The Colonels had their best drive of the night early in the third quarter, going 82 yards on 14 plays. Figaro and Terry Lucas Jr. hooked up for a 31-yard pass, but after the ULM defense held strong inside the 10-yard line, Francisco Condado missed on a 21-yard fi eld goal. Lucas led the team with fi ve receptions for 51 yards. ULM added a rushing ouchdown in the fourth to make the fi nal. The Warhawks racked up 202 yards on the ground, while Nicholls fi nished with 159. Tobias Lofton added 39 yards on 10 carries for the Colonels. B.T. Sanders led Nicholls with 12 tackles and Hezekiah White added nine.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – A valiant effort by the defense and a halftime lead were not enough to pick up the fi rst win of the season for Nicholls as the Colonels fell, 20-10, to Incarnate Word on Saturday afternoon at Benson Stadium. With the loss, Nicholls dropped to 0-2 on the season and 0-1 in Southland play. The Colonels have now lost 20 consecutive games, including 15 straight in conference. UIW improved to 2-1 on the season and 1-1 in league play. For only the second time in the past 15 games, Nicholls held a lead at the half as the team went into the locker room ahead, 10-7. But the Colonel offense could only muster two fi rst downs after the break and UIW scored 13 unanswered points to improve to 2-0 all-time against Nicholls. Both defenses held the opposition to under 300 yards of total offense and combined for six intercep-tions, with UIW picking off the Colonels four times. Of the six turnovers, none had a bigger impact on the outcome of the game as Darius Knight’s would-be interception return late in the fourth quarter. Following a pair of fi eld goals to gain the lead for UIW, 13-10, the Cardinals came up with an intercep-tion which gave them the ball at their own 42. After chewing fi ve minutes off the clock, UIW moved deep into Colonel territory with six minutes remaining in the game. On third-and-goal, Knight picked off a pass and returned it 93 yards for a potential game-winning touchdown; however, the Colonels were fl agged for an illegal block, moving the ball back to their own 16. A UIW sack on quarterback Landry Klann, who played most of the second half, forced a three-and-out and gave the Cardinals the ball back with 4:31 to go. A 37-yard run by Broderick Reeves started UIW’s drive and after Nicholls called all three of its timeouts, Trent Brittain ran a naked bootleg for a 4-yard touchdown on third-and-goal with just 1:18 remaining in the game. The Cardinals intercepted Klann’s fi rst pass on the fi nal drive before kneeling the rest of the way. Tuskani Figaro started under center for Nicholls, completing 13 of 18 passes for 113 yards and a touchdown. Klann fi nished the day 3 of 5 for 23 yards. Both Colonel quarterbacks threw a pair of interceptions. Figaro orchestrated a great drive on the Colonels’ opening possession to give Nicholls an early lead. Head coach Tim Rebowe elected to kick after winning the toss, and after the defense forced a three-and-out, the Colonels marched 96 yards on nine plays. On the third play, Tobias Lofton picked up a huge chunk of real estate, racing 34 yards down the fi eld. Figaro connected with C.J. Bates for a 19-yard gain and on third-and-2 from the 5, the duo hooked up again for the Colonels’ fi rst touchdown of the season. Francisco Condado added the extra point for the 7-0 lead. UIW responded with its own lengthy drive which extended into the second quarter, going 84 yards on nine plays to even the score at 7-7. On third-and-short inside the Colonel 15, Brittain found Cole Wick open for a 12-yard touchdown. Later in the quarter, UIW shanked a punt to give Nicholls great fi eld position, starting at UIW’s 29. Condado would take advantage as he booted a 42-yard fi eld goal to put Nicholls back on top, 10-7.

BOULDER, Colo. – Nicholls was held to just 166 yards on offense against Colorado and the Buf-faloes used a 21-point fi rst quarter to cruise to a 48-0 victory over the Colonels in front of 37,302 fans Saturday afternoon at Folsom Field. The offensive struggles continued for Nicholls (0-3) as the Colonels managed just eight fi rst downs against FBS Colorado, which won its third straight game to improve to 3-1. The Buffaloes used a balanced attack to account for their seven touchdowns, racking up 358 yards rushing and 278 yards passing. The Colonels gained 126 of its yards on the ground, led by Michael Henry’s 65 yards on 15 carries. Tuskani Figaro threw for just 40 yards, completing 6 of 22 passes. C.J. Bates led the team with 27 yards on two receptions. The game was never in much doubt as Colorado produced three touchdowns on its fi rst three drives for an early 21-0 lead. CU scored on the game’s opening possession, marching 70 yards and found the end zone on a 4-yard run by Phillip Lindsay. Following a 25-yard punt by Nicholls, the Buffaloes made it 14-0 on a 1-yard run by Christian Powell. On the Buffaloes’ third scoring drive, the Colonel defense forced a third-and-18, but Sefo Liufau hit Jay MacIntyre for a 38-yard touchdown on the play. For the game, Sefo completed 13 of 21 passes for 227 yards, while Lindsay had 113 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 17 carries for Colorado. But after the rough start for Nicholls, the defense was able to come up with a pair of big plays in the second quarter. With Colorado in the red zone, Jonavon Lewis ripped the ball loose on a run by Powell, and Hezekiah White came up with the ball for the Colonels. On Colorado’s next drive, the defense stuffed a fourth-and-1 attempt at the Colonel 6, keeping the score 21-0. CU would add a 46-yard fi eld goal by Diego Gonzalez to take a 24-0 lead into the locker room. Despite the inspired effort by the defense in the second quarter, the offense was never able to get anything going. The Colonels’ longest play of the day came on a 28-yard run by Henry, which came immediately after the fumble recovery. The third quarter was much like the fi rst as Colorado scored 17 to put the game away. After misfi ring on a 26-yard fi eld goal, the Buffaloes scored on their next drive on a 1-yard plunge by Lindsay. On their next possession, Donovan Lee, who had 103 yards rushing on 10 carries, broke free for a 59 yard touchdown run. Colorado ended the scoring in the third with a 46-yard fi eld goal by Gonzalez. Nicholls did not pick up a fi rst down in the quarter, punting on all fi ve possessions. For the game, Tyler St. Germain fi nished with nine punts, averaging 41.3 yards per punt. In the fourth, Kyle Evans ran one in for the Buffaloes from 2-yards out with fi ve minutes remaining to make the fi nal, 48-0. The defense was led by Hezekiah White, who fi nished with 11 tackles and a fumble recovery. Corey Abraham added eight tackles, while Darryl Adams and B.T Sanders added six each.

THIBODAUX, La. – Playing in front of its home crowd for the fi rst time this season, Nicholls was handed a 37-7 loss by nationally-ranked McNeese State on Homecoming on Saturday at John L. Guidry Stadium. After leading 7-0 through the fi rst quarter, McNeese scored three touchdowns in the second period to go up 27-0. Right before the break, the Colonels scored their second touchdown of the year as quarterback Tuskani Figaro found Damion Jeanpiere for a 52-yard touchdown. But the long touch-down would be all McNeese would allow the rest of the way and the Cowboy defense/special teams accounted for the second-half scoring en route to the 30-point victory. McNeese headed into the matchup with one of the top defenses in the FCS and the Cowboys held true to the ranking. Nicholls was limited to 239 yards of offense, 12 fi rst downs and just 35 yards rushing. The Colonels also turned the ball over three times, with second coming on a sack/fumble in the end zone, which was recovered by McNeese for a touchdown. For the game, McNeese got to the Nicholls quarterbacks six times for a loss of 32 yards. Colonel quarterback Tuskani Figaro completed 14 of 20 passes for 177 yards and a score, with his main target being Jeanpiere. The freshman from Metairie had a breakout performance, hauling in fi ve catches for 112 yards and a touchdown to become the fi rst 100-yard receiver for the Red and Gray this season.

The Cowboys went 66 yards for the fi rst scoring drive, scoring on a 34-yard pass from Daniel Sams to Tavarious Battiste. In the second quarter, a short punt gave McNeese great fi eld position and they went on to capitalize as Ryan Ross ran the ball in for a score from six yards out. A missed extra-point kick kept the score at 13-0. On McNeese’s next possession, the visitors put together a 14-play, 90-yard drive which led to a 20-0 advantage. Sams fueled the drive with a 19-yard run before capping it off with a 4-yard score. The Cowboys then got the ball right back as Darius Knight fumbled the kick return at midfi eld. On the next play, Sams threw a lateral pass back to receiver David Bush, who then bombed it down the fi eld to a wide open Kent Shelby for a 49-yard touchdown. A Jean Breaux extra-point made the score 27-0 with 1:31 until the intermission. But Nicholls answered with its own lengthy play, cutting the score to 27-7 right before the break. On second-and-7 from midfi eld, Figaro found a streaking Jeanpiere up the left sideline for a 52-yard touchdown with 27 seconds remaining in the half. Francisco Condado tacked on the extra point as the Colonels headed to the locker room with a little momentum. After the break, McNeese added a defensive touchdown on a sack and the offense tacked on a fi eld goal. For the Colonels, three players – Geoffrey Hebert, Hezekiah White and B.T. Sanders - fi nished with eight tackles including one for loss. Sanders was credited with a sack after jarring the ball loose from Sams in the third quarter, but it ended up being one of several missed opportunities for a turnover as McNeese was able to recover it.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Nicholls held the lead over Stephen F. Austin for all but 50 seconds, including a 21-7 advantage at half time, but the Lumberjacks rallied and scored the game-winning touchdown with 26 seconds left to defeat the Colonels, 28-24, at Homer Bryce Stadium. The Colonels racked up a season-high 356 yards on offense, with 239 coming before the break. SFA, which had 458 yards on offense, held Nicholls to a lone fi eld goal in the second half as they found the end zone three times. Leading 24-21 in the fourth quarter, Nicholls was forced to punt, giving SFA the ball on their 16 with 6:26 to go. Lumberjack quarter Zach Conque orchestrated the offense to four fi rst downs, including a 16-yard rush to get the home team into the red zone with less than two minutes remaining. On third down, Conque was forced out of bounds at the 5 by Darryl Adams, making it fourth-and-1. The ‘Jacks elected to put the ball into his hands again and he barreled through the defense for a 4-yd gain. On the next play, Conque rushed it in for a 1-yard touchdown with only 26 seconds remaining in the game. An extra point made the score 28-24. On the ensuing kickoff, Joel Dullary was hit and fumbled, and the ball was recovered by SFA to seal the win. Tuskani Figaro led the Colonel offense, completing 9 of 13 passes for 148 yards and a touchdown. Figaro also rushed for 52 yards and a score, but left the game in the third quarter with an injury. Nicholls needed only two plays and 24 seconds to take a 7-0 lead. Starting on the 25, Figaro found Damion Jeanpiere open for a 45-yard reception. On the next play, Figaro ran to the left and up the sideline on a keeper for a 30-yard touchdown. SFA answered by driving down to the Colonels’ 23, but on fourth-and-long, Ahmani Martin batted away a pass in the end zone to keep SFA off the board. Jeanpiere then struck again for the Colonel offense, hauling in a 42-yard pass on the second play of the possession. Facing a third-and-2 at the SFA 3, Michael Henry rumbled through defenders for a 3-yard touchdown. Francisco Condado added the extra point for a 14-0 lead. Henry fi nished the game with 59 yards rushing on 15 carries. After an SFA touchdown, Nicholls pieced together a 12-play, 85-yard drive to take a 21-7 lead. Darryl Watson hauled in three receptions on the drive, capping it with an 8-yard touchdown at the 10:04 mark. Watson fi nished the game with four catches for 80 yards. In the third, SFA scored on a 96-yard drive to make the score 21-14. After SFA missed a fi eld goal to start the fourth, Landry Klann hit Watson for a 42-yard pass to put Nicholls across midfi eld. Condado extended the lead to 24-14 on a 32-yard fi eld goal with 10:50 remaining in the game. SFA quickly answered, needing just 1:29 to go 66 yards. Nicholls was able to string together a pair of fi rst downs, taking 2:48 off the clock before a 37-yard punt by Tyler St. Germain was fair caught, setting the stage for SFA’s game-winning drive.

Along with the four turnovers, Nicholls’ defense was able to produce three sacks on the day. Heze-kiah White and Geoffrey Hebert led the way with 10 tackles each. White had 1.5 sacks while Hebert was credited with 0.5. Devin Simoneaux also chipped in with a sack.

THIBODAUX, La. – Behind a combined 183 yards rushing and four touchdowns by Tuskani Figaro and Michael Henry, Nicholls earned its fi rst victory under fi rst-year head coach Tim Rebowe as the Colonels defeated Houston Baptist, 38-17, in Southland Conference action on Saturday afternoon. The Colonels, which had lost the last 23 games including a 31-21 setback at Houston Baptist last season, dominated the Huskies early on by jumping out to a 21-0 lead through the fi rst quarter. HBU (2-5, 0-4 SLC) scored 10 points in the second; however, the Colonel defense would not allow another score until late in the fourth quarter when the game was well out of reach. Nicholls (1-5, 1-3 SLC) outgained HBU 425-221 in total offensive yards, helped by an outstanding performance by the defense. The Colonels allowed just 30 yards rushing and 10 fi rst downs by the Huskies, while tallying two sacks, a fumble recovery and two interceptions – both by Jeff Hall. Figaro led the Colonel offense with 134 yards passing on 18 of 25 and added 91 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Henry fi nished with 92 yards rushing and two scores and Tobias Lofton added 69 yards rushing, highlighted by 39-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. As a team, the Colonels racked up 291 yards rushing on the day.

The defense set the tone early as Christian Boutte caused and recovered a fumble deep inside HBU territory, setting up a 3-yard touchdown run by Figaro. After forcing another punt, the offense went 72 yards on 13 plays, capped with a 1-yard touchdown run by Henry. Before the end of the fi rst, Nicholls quickly scored again for a 21-0 lead. Figaro rushed for 23 yards to move Nicholls into the red zone and Xavier Marcus caught a 16-yard pass, being stopped just short of the goal line. Henry then plowed in for his second rushing touchdown of the quarter. Early in the second, HBU cracked the scoreboard on a 2-play drive. The Huskies got a great 49-yard catch by D’Angelo Wallace to the 1-yard line, and B.J. Kelly punched it in to make the score 21-7. Later in the quarter, HBU added a 43-yard fi eld goal by Travis Shinn as time expired to make the score 21-10 at the half.

Nicholls received the ball after the break and took advantage of a kickoff out-of-bounds, starting the drive at their own 35. After the offense picked up two fi rst downs, Lofton dazzled the home crowd as he eluded a Husky defender with a spin move halfway through his 39-yard touchdown run. Trailing 28-10 late in the third, HBU elected to go for it on fourth down from the Nicholls 32 and Hall made a leaping catch for an interception in the end zone. In the fourth, Nicholls put to rest any chance of a comeback with a prolonged seven-minute touchdown drive. After crossing midfi eld, the Colonels rushed the ball seven consecutive times, with Figaro ending the drive with a 14-yard touchdown run. On HBU’s fi rst play of the ensuing possession, Hall picked off Tony Dawson and returned it 31 yards to HBU’s 17, setting up a 31-yard fi eld goal by Condado with 6:29 to play. Kelly added a 3-yard touchdown run for HBU to make the fi nal. Nicholls held the ball for over 40 minutes in the contest, resulting in the defense’s leading tackler Hezekiah White lowest total of the season with six. B.T. Sanders also had six, while freshmen Kenny Dotson and Chris Major each had a sack.

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Turnovers and special teams gaffes by Nicholls led to 30 points for Sam Houston as the Colonels fell, 37-7, Saturday night in a torrential downpour at Bowers Stadium. Battling the weather conditions, Nicholls (1-6, 1-4 SLC) and Sam Houston combined for just 98 yards passing and 13 completions out of 37 attempts. The Colonels rushed for 143 yards, getting 88 yards from Tuskani Figaro, 51 from Michael Henry and 40 from Tobias Lofton. The Bearkats had 310 yards on the ground, led by Jalen Overstreet who had 200 yards and a score on 28 carries. With the heavy rain playing a huge factor in the game, fi eld position and turnovers turned out to be the difference in the outcome. Sam Houston (5-2, 5-1 SLC) fumbled three times but recovered all three, while Nicholls lost the ball twice. In the fi eld position battle, four of the Bearkats’ fi ve touchdown drives started inside the Nicholls 30-yard line. The troubles started right out of the gate for the Colonels as a high snap on a punt attempt sent the ball into the end zone for a safety, giving the Bearkats a 2-0 lead after a minute of play. Sam Houston then pieced together a 7-play, 64-yard touchdown drive. Deon Hutchinson caught a 13-yard pass from Jared Johnson, and the extra point made it 9-0 at the 11:49 mark. While the Colonel offense was held without a fi rst down in the opening quarter, the defense forced two punts to keep the score close. However, mistakes by the offense and special teams led to a pair of short touchdowns by the Bearkats. On a screen pass, Torian Williams came up with an intercep-tion at the Colonel 20 for the Bearkats, resulting in an acrobatic 3-yard touchdown catch by Hayden Cagle. On the ensuring possession, Nicholls had an 18-yard punt go out-of-bounds at its 29. The Bearkats needed just four plays to score as Corey Avery ran in from 12 yards for a 23-0 lead. Early in the second, the Colonels picked up their fi rst and second fi rst downs of the game on a 10-yard rush by Lofton and a 7-yard catch by Stephen LeBouef, but the drive ended on the Bearkat 34 as Figaro threw an incomplete pass on a fourth-and-7. Right before the break, punter Tyler St. Germain kneeled to fi eld the ball on a punt attempt, and after review, it was determined that his knee touched the ground, resulting in a turnover-on-downs that gave the Bearkats the ball at the Colonel 22. Two plays later, Overstreet found the end zone on a 12-yard rush to give Sam Houston a 30-0 lead at the break. Early in the third quarter, Figaro had the ball stripped on a sack by P.J. Hall, who recovered it at the Colonel 15. The turnover led to an 11-yard touchdown run by Ridgeway Frank, making the score 37-0 with 12 minutes remaining in the period. The Colonels’ lone touchdown of the night came on an 80-yard run by Figaro at the 3:37 mark in the third. On the second play of the drive, Figaro found a seam through the defense and outran the Bearkats down the left sideline for his fourth rushing TD of the season. It marked Figaro’s second longest touchdown run for his career, trailing only his 88-yard rush against Arkansas Tech in 2013. For the rest of the game, the teams combined to pass the ball only fi ve times as neither team added points to the scoreboard.

THIBODAUX, La. – Nicholls had a pair of 100-yard rushers in Michael Henry and Tuskani Figaro, but the Colonels were unable to limit Northwestern State’s ground game as the Demons racked up 348 yards rushing en route to a 37-21 victory on Saturday at John L. Guidry Stadium. The loss dropped Nicholls’ record to 1-7 overall and 1-5 in the Southland, while Northwestern State improved to 2-6 and 2-4. The Demons retained the rivalry trophy for the second straight season as they improved their all-time record against the Colonels to 28-15. For the second straight weekend, the weather played a major role in the teams’ offensive playcalling as heavy rain and gusty winds forced both squads to look to its running game. The Colonels gained 310 yards rushing, but lost a total of 51 which included yardage lost on sacks and a high snap that resulted in a safety. Henry rushed for a career-high 154 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries, while Figaro fi nished with his sixth career 100-yard game, tallying 114 yards and a score on 17 carries. Unlike last weekend at Sam Houston, Nicholls was able to pass the ball as Figaro tallied 176 yards on 15 of 28 attempts; however, turnovers proved costly as the Red and Gray gave up the ball four times – three times on fumbles and one on an interception. Both teams turned the football over to start the contest as Figaro lost the ball on the fourth play of the game, but Chris Major intercepted a pass from Stephen Rivers to give Nicholls the ball back. The Colonels then struck fi rst as Figaro hit Henry for a 19-yard touchdown pass for the early lead. The Demons quickly answered by rushing the ball on all seven plays of their scoring drive, capped on a 1-yard plunge by De’Mard Llorens. The NSU tailback caused problems for Nicholls all game as he racked up 166 yards rushing and four touchdowns. Llorens’ added two more scores – 24 yards and 13 yards - on NSU’s next two possessions, giving the Demons a 21-7 lead early in the second quarter. Nicholls then went 74 yards on 11 plays to make it a one-possession game. Terry Lucas Jr. and C.J. Bates both had two receptions on the drive, and Henry polished it off with a 1-yard rush with 1:49 until halftime. Both Bates and Lucas fi nished with four receptions for 47 yards. To start the third, Llorens had a 28-yard rush to fuel a scoring drive for the Demons and added his fourth touchdown on a 2-yard run. On the ensuing possession, the Colonels had a bad snap on their own 20 and the ball went out of the back of the end zone for a safety, making the score 30-14.With 8:12 remaining in third, Demon running back Daniel Taylor caught a pass in the fl at from Ste-phen Rivers and took it 38 yards to pay dirt for a commanding 37-14 lead.

Before the end of the third, Figaro found an opening down the left sideline and scored on a 39-yard touchdown run to trim the defi cit to 37-21. Early in the fourth, Llorens looked to be on his way to his fi fth touchdown of the day, but Ahmani Mar-tin chased him down on a 42-yard rush before he crossed the goal line, stripping the ball into the end zone for a touchback. However, the Demon defense was stout the rest of the way, holding Nicholls to one fi rst down in its next two drives. On the Colonels’ fi nal drive, Chase Collins put the stamp on NSU’s victory with an interception. The Colonel defense was led by Seth Keller with 11 tackles, and Hezekiah White added nine stops.

BEAUMONT, Texas – Nicholls and Lamar combined to rush for 783 yards and eight touchdowns, but the game came down to special teams as Francisco Condado’s 28-yard fi eld goal late in the fourth quarter lifted the Colonels to a thrilling 30-28 victory Saturday night at Provost Umphrey Stadium. After Condado’s fi eld goal at the 2:46 mark, Lamar (4-5, 3-4 SLC) marched down the fi eld to put itself in position for a victory. Following a pass interference that moved the ball into the red zone, Nicholls (2-7, 2-5 SLC) kept the Cardinals out of the end zone on the next three plays. LU called a timeout with 3 seconds remaining in the game to set up a 23-yard fi eld goal by Alex Ball, but the ball sailed right of the upright and the Colonels stormed the fi eld in jubilation as the clock expired. While Lamar’s Kade Harrington showed why he is the nation’s top running back as he fi nished with 255 yards rushing and two touchdowns, the Colonels racked up a season-high 415 yards on the ground. Tobias Lofton led the way with a career-high 154 yards and a score on 17 carries, while Michael Henry was a workhorse, grinding out 100 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 31 carries. Starting quarterback Tuskani Figaro ran for 75 yards on his only carry of the game, but was injured on the play and did not return. In relief, senior Landry Klann rushed for 60 yards and a touchdown, while also adding 144 yards passing on 10 of 20 attempts. Harrington struck fi rst for the home team, scoring on a 9-yard touchdown run on the opening drive of the game. But Nicholls needed less than a minute to tie it up as Figaro’s rush put the Colonels inside the 5, and Henry ran untouched from two yards out. The fi reworks then continued in the opening quarter as Harrington broke loose for a 68-yard touchdown, putting LU up 14-7. Early in the second, LU quarterback Carson Earp joined the party as he ran 72 yards for a touch-down, making the score 21-7. However, Nicholls answered with its own long run as Lofton sprinted past the Cardinal defenders for an 82-yard touchdown. The rush by Lofton was the longest for the Colonels’ this season, surpassing Figaro’s 80-yard touchdown run against Sam Houston. On the ensuing possession, Lamar looked to be on its way to add to the lead, but Ahmani Martin intercepted a pass by Joe Minden in the end zone. The Cardinals did have a chance for a fi eld goal before the half, but Ball missed on a 46-yard attempt as time expired. To start the third, Charles Henderson came through with a big kick return for Nicholls, running 40 yards to midfi eld. Henry would tie the game at 21 after fi nding the end zone for the second time, scor-ing from nine yards out. The tie was short-lived; however, as Harrington rushed 44 yards to set up a touchdown run by Minden. But the Colonels had an answer once again, this time using the passing game to move the ball down the fi eld. On a second-and-six, Klann threw a deep pass to C.J. Bates, and Bates out-leaped a pair of defenders for a 41-yard catch. Klann then fi nished off the drive with a 5-yard touchdown run, but Condado’s extra point hit the upright, leaving the score at 28-27 Lamar. In the fourth, the Colonels caught a break as Earp fumbled the ball at the Nicholls 30 and the defense came up with a turnover with seven minutes to go. The Colonel running backs then took over as Hen-ry rushed for 18- and 11-yard gains, and Lofton tacked on a 15-yard rush. The Colonels settled for Condado’s 28-yard fi eld goal for their fi rst lead of the night and what proved to be the game winner. Bates led the Colonel receivers with 48 yards on two receptions, while Terry Lucas Jr. added three grabs for 44 yards. On defense, B.T. Sanders recorded 13 tackles and Martin added 10.
