About the ni-msme Youth Job Melani-msme youth Job Mela powered by JobsDialog in partnership with ni-msme; district administration of Davangere, KVTSDC (Karnataka Vocational Training and Skill Development Corporation Ltd.) was conducted on the 23rd and 24th August 2015.
This Talent Mela addressed the key twin areas of focus for the government – employment and enterprise growth.
This was one of the rare occasions where the district administration of Davangere worked closely with ni-msme and JobsDialog along with all other associates including employment exchange office of Davangere and placement offices of all participating colleges of Davangere.
The ni-msme Youth Talent Mela was conducted across 5 locations; UBDT college; DRR Polytechnic College; ARG Arts and Commerce College; DRM Science and Technology college; and First Grade Government College. The Youth MSME Mela set up involved tremendous efforts from more than 100 people across various stakeholders. They were from ni-msme; JobsDialog; District administration of Davangere; the colleges who participated; employment exchange etc. and their supporting partners.
ObjectiveThe objective of the ni-msme Youth Job Mela was to create a platform for the Youth of Davangere to get connected to multiple job opportunities based on their qualifications and preferences. ni-msme Youth Job Mela attracted job seekers from Davangere and nearby districts from all educational streams, vying for opportunities available to them in one place. 9,141 candidates were interviewed; 3104 candidates shortlisted and about 655 candidates received confirmed offers from 85 employers who attended the mega event across 2 days.

Key movers of the Davangere Job MelaMinistry of Heavy Industries & Public EnterprisesShri. G. M. Siddeshwara, the Hon’ble Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises is the figurehead behind the Job mela. It his him who had urged the MoMSME to organize the Job Mela at Davangere to further his vision for the unemployed youth of Davangere who needed an equal opportunity on par with the privileged sections. Due credit goes to Shri. Ravi Kumar, IAS, Personal Secretary, Shri. Hari Prasad, and Shri. Ramesha Nayaka, Additional Personal Secretaries and support staff of the Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, whose personal visits and efforts made it a successful Job Mela.
Ministry of MSMEUnder the leadership and guidance of the Hon’ble Union Cabinet Minister for MSME, Shri. Kalraj Mishraji, the spirit of conducting the Job Mela at Davangere was initiated by Shri. B. H. Anil Kumar, Joint Secretary (SME), MoMSME. The mandate of MoMSME has been to provide Wage and Self Employment to the unemployed youth of the country, and the same was adopted for the Job Mela (ni-msme Talent Mela) at Davangere. The continuous guidance and initiation of Shri. B. H. Anil Kumar, IAS, has resulted in getting a sponsorship from the KVSTDC, Bengaluru, Karnataka. A relentless effort has been put in by the Ministry and the institutions under it.
ni-msme: National Institute for Micro,Small and Medium Enterprisesni-msme is the pioneering institute in entrepreneurship and an institute dedicated to the MSME for the past five decades. It has organized Talent Melas (Job Melas) for the past many years and helped many to get Wage Employment in various sectors. The institute has partnered with JobsDialog and supported the Job Mela at Davangere. The Director General of the institute, Shri M. Chandrasekhar Reddy has been a great instrument in motivating and coordinating with other organizations of the MoMSME to encourage participation in the Job Mela. In his remarks in the valedictory, he said: “The institute has been bringing life to many who were unemployed through the job melas” [sic].
The Job Mela was coordinated by Mr. Jayakar Rao Gutty, Faculty Member, SEM, ni-msme.
NSIC: National Small Industries CorporationNSIC has been working to promote, aid, and foster the growth of MSMEs in India through its schemes and incubation centers. Shri. Ravi Kumar, Zonal Head for Southern States of NSIC has been supportive of the Job Mela in putting up an information center during the Job Mela at Davangere ensuring that all those who visit are informed about its activities, thus helping in promoting entrepreneurship and in setting up small industries through NSIC initiatives.
COIR BoardThe COIR Board has been engaged in portraying its stalls for introducing their schemes to all those who would like to start their own enterprises. During the Job Mela, the board installed a stall at the venue and displayed their products. The board officials explained about their schemes and possibilities to all those who visited the stall. This was an opportunity for the unemployed to gain an insight into entrepreneurship, thanks to the Coir Board schemes.
Other institutions such as Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Automotive Skills Development Council (ASCI), Karnataka Vocational Training and Skill Development Corporation Ltd. (KVTSDC) through its Employment Exchange Officer and his staff, Davangere and District Administration of Davangere; the students and Staff of UBDT College, DRR Polytechnic College, ARG College for Arts and Science, DRM College of Science and First Grade Government Degree College and GMIT college of Davangere; and the press and media personnel of Davangere… all of them have contributed their best to make the Job Mela a success.

GroundworkPutting together this mela involved the following key steps.
1) Identifying key program stake holders and preparing a budget and timeline for implementation of the Job Mela
2) Research of the Davangere landscape including candidate supply profile; industry landscape and employers demand trends
3) Drawing the project plan and investing key components required for the effective organisation of the ni-msme Youth Job Mela viz. Software, ni-msme Youth Job Mela Promotion constituents, Communication Strategy, infrastructure and other resources
4) Back-end support involved ensuring SME and job seeker registrations; engaging with them through calls, emails and sms informing them about the Job Mela; all formats required for assessments in the Job Mela; and employer kits; press notes
5) Event Management support for the Job Mela for two days, including mobilization of appropriate people and material with adequate supervision
6) Ongoing improvement based on feedback and situation
7) Closure and shortlisted candidate details collection
PARTICIPATION IN THE JOB FAIRThe ni-msme Youth Job Mela saw 85 Employers engaging with over 9000 candidates and providing 655 offer letters to aspiring job seekers. The commemoration event was honoured by the presence of the Union Cabinet Minister – Shri Kalraj Mishraji and the Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises G.M Sidheshwaraji presenting the offer letter many hundred candidates.
KEY OUTCOMES
The ni-msme Youth Job Mela saw 85 Employers engaging with over 9000 candidates and providing 655 offer letters to aspiring job seekers. The event concluded with a valedictory program on the 24th August District Stadium at Davangere. The event was presided by Shri. G.M Siddeshwara, MoS, Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, and the Chief Guest was Shri.Kalraj Mishra Ji, Union Cabinet Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. The dignitaries on the dais distributed offer letters to all the selected jobseekers. The vote of thanks was proposed by Shri. S.T Anjankumar, Deputy Commissioner & District Magistrate, Davanagere, who thanked and appreciated the efforts put by all stakeholders of the Job Mela.

Udyog Mela from August 23In order to help youth in the region to get suitable job opportunities in different companies including engineering and software companies, the district administration has decided to organise an Udyoga Mela for two days from August 23 in the city.
According to Deputy Commissioner S.T. Anjan Kumar, the Udyog Mela would be inaugurated by the Union Minister for Small and Medium Industries Kalraj Mishra. Union Law Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises G.M. Siddeshwar, Minister for Horticulture and district in-charge Shamanur Shivashankarappa and Labour Minister P.T. Parameshwar Naik would be the chief guests. UBTD Engineering College, DRR Polytechnic College, ARG Arts and Commerce College, DRM Science College and government colleges would take active part in organising the event. The district administration has already formed nine separate committees including committees for providing necessary infrastructure for mela, registration committee, and reception committee.
