Parents and students are welcome to form a guard of honour to farewell the students. All are welcome to join in. Please assemble at the bottom of the stairs near the A block side of the library at 2.55pm. 2017 School Begins- Our first day of official classes will be Monday 23 January 2017. The first bell will ring at 8.45am. Please remember to bring all your booklist items, clearly marked with your child’s name. Please label all items of clothing and their school hat with your child’s full name. As is always the case the parking around our school can be very congested. Please allow extra time for parking to assist you child to their classroom. Jabiru Before/After School Care will be closed on Friday 9 December. Please make alternative care arrangements for your child. All students should have left the school grounds by the second bell at 3.20pm. and asking for action. REMEMBER- EVERY DAY COUNTS!

SMS Notifications for absences - You will receive a SMS if the following scenarios happen:-

1. You have not notified the school of your child’s absence by 9am. Phone or email are our preferred options. Phone 3358 7333 option 1 or [email protected]

2. Your notification is received later than 9am. Our reporting process needs to be timely. 3. You have not notified the school of holiday or scheduled time off. 4. You are attending an off campus activity and have not notified the office. 5. You arrived late for class or assembly and are not signed in at the office for a late slip. All

movements regarding children must be recorded through the school office.

Please respond to the SMS immediately and the reply will be generated in our Oneschool database to correct the unexplained absence.

Building Project -

• The three demountable buildings were delivered and installed this weekend. • Electricians will continue to connect electricity and data services to the buildings. • Carpenters are on site to install the ramps and finish with the building complexing. • All works will be completed by Friday, 9 December.

We would ask that the school community be mindful of building works at this time and to kindly work in with any school requests that may be issued from time to time. Our first priority is to always ensure that our students are safe. If you have any queries regarding the build, please feel free to contact Elena Anderson, our BSM Business Services Manager.

Year 6 Graduation Ceremony - Tuesday 6 December – 9.30am-11am. - We extend a warm welcome to all our school community to join us in celebrating and farewelling our Year 6 class students. This assembly is a combination of celebrating the achievement and accomplishments of our students. We wish them the very best at their new high schools in 2017.

Year 5 Families-(Hosting Morning Tea for Graduation ) - Thank you to all our wonderful families who have committed to bring along something for the Year 6 Graduation morning tea. If you have not replied to the office and would like to make a contribution on Tuesday that would be most appreciated. The school canteen will be open on Tuesday morning from 8.30am to rece ive your food or drink items. Please remember to pre slice and label your container for easy return. Thank you to those volunteers for offering to help at the morning tea.

LAST DAY of TUCKSHOP Friday 9 December 2016 -The last day of tuckshop will be Friday 9 December with a special Sausage Sizzle. We will have beef sausages and vegetarian sausages available. We will also have popcorn and home bake for snacks and drinks (limited supply). Please check flexischools for the menu. There will be ice blocks for sale at second bell but only the 50 cent ones.

Prep 2017 Interviews - I have now completed the interviews for this term. Thank you to all those families who have returned their enrolment forms. If you know of a family in the catchment area please encourage them to contact the office as soon as possible to collect an enrolment pack.

Report Cards - Semester 2 2016 -Due to be sent this last week of school. As many schools use the same database from the Dept. of Education please allow a few days for this report to lodge in your inbox. We have now sent our Test Email for Report cards for this semester. We will use the email address that the weekly newsletter is sent to. Please contact the office as a matter of urgency if you require a change of details form.

Booklists for 2017 - Orders being returned to the school have now closed. Once again we have enlisted the help of our book supplier Edsco. Please be reminded that you must deal directly with the book supplier and all orders must be completed online and they will be delivered directly to your home in the school holidays.

School holidays are almost upon us During this period empty schools provide an opportunity for criminal activity, becoming targets for unlawful entry, arson, stealing, graffiti and property damage – all of which become a cost to the community.

The School Watch Program is a partnership between Education Queensland, the Queensland Police Service and the State Government Protective Security Service. It aims to reduce criminal activity in Queensland schools and encourages everyone to look out for after-hours crime in our schools. If you see anything suspicious, please don’t attempt to intervene. Lost property - If you have lost any items from swimming these are now located in the lost property under A Block. All items that are left in Lost Property as at Wednesday, 7 December will be donated to the Uniform Shop.

School Pickup times and Office hours - Parents please be reminded that our office closes at 3.30pm each afternoon. All students should be collected by the second bell at 3.20pm. Any students left unsupervised at this time will be taken to Jabiru before and after school care as emergency supervision.

Fees will apply to parents on collection of child. Any students attending Community Education Program classes are reminded to go straight to the class areas.

Teacher Postcards for 2017 - This week your child will receive a postcard from their new classroom teacher for 2017. This is a little introduction to their new class teacher and what to expect for the new school year.

Swim Carnival Prep- Yr 3- Thankyou to Mr Kent Rainbow, classroom teachers and all our swim instructors for their tireless efforts on Friday 2 December. What a fantastic effort and wonderful atmosphere. Thank you to the students for their swimming efforts and good behaviour.

Please advise the office in writing. We are required to lodge reports for Day 4 and Day 8 numbers of students. These numbers determine a variety of key resource factors available to our school. Many classrooms are moving over the break with the construction of our new learning areas.

CGEN is a really exciting Performance event open to all Qld State School students. You might have

seen it on TV two weeks ago. About 1700 students from all over Queensland rehearse throughout the

year and then come together for two great big performances at the Brisbane Convention Centre on Saturday 15 July

2017. New Farm State School is already registered and now individual students who wish to be part of Creative

Generation just need to fill in a form online and give it to Ms Thacker before 8 December, 2016. Nominations close 9

December, 2016.

You may wish to register for Massed Dance, Massed Choir or Massed Drumming. Quick get your adult to go online

and check it out so you don’t miss out.

SCHOOL BANKING

Banking has finished for 2016!!! We had 60 bankers on Friday.

We will start again on the second Friday of Term 1 in 2017 (3rd February). Don’t forget to make a deposit at any Commonwealth Bank during January so that you qualify for the bonus interest (as a deposit needs to be made every month).

Congratulations to everyone for a great Banking Year!!! We are looking for volunteers to help out next year as a few of our banking ladies are leaving the school.

New Farm State School – Swim Club .

We are looking forward to Trophy night Monday 5 December. We will start the night with a free swim for the kids, followed by the very exciting and traditional parent’s relay race.

Trophies and awards will then be presented by our special VIP guest. Finally the kids will enjoy pizza and drinks and icypoles kindly donated by IGA.

Bigfish Littlefish will be running two intensive programs over the school holidays.

Monday 12th - Friday 16th December 2016 & Monday 16th -Friday 20th January 2016 Lessons from 9:00am Fees are $80 per program.

Students attending Jabiru are able to book in. Jabiru carers will drop off and pick up students from

the pool.

We have programs for all levels -Beginners, Intermediate, Advanced
